I love the atmosphere there! Last year I drove from my brothers @ fr. knox untill we set up tent and right when we were all done and i sat in the chair in the tent i told all my friends i finally feel home. It's the best! I plan on going every year unless they cancell it or i just grown out of the whole concert scene......but thats not gonna happen anytime soon.

It would take alot for me not ever going back to roo. I am going more this year for the entire experience, and not just the music. I will see my fair share of bands, but I like the atmosphere and the people that I have met the last 2 times I have been there.
ive found that i get that 'at home" feeling at all fests. and you certainly meet great people at all fests. and you dont have to deal with a lot of the hassles that roo presents. and i feel that a couple other lineups are as good or better then roo. not to mention they are cheaper. but there is just something about roo. the moment i arrived in 04 i knew id never miss another 1. but i get to go to several fests each year. if i could ony choose one im not sure what id do. but i cant imagine skipping roo for anyreason outside of only being able to do one fest and phish or the dead being somewhere else.

My ride this year may not do the roo, opting for 10kl instead, but if the lineup is amazing as usual I will probably find another way to Tennessee, come about April or May it would take wild horses, or a really bad lineup to keep me away.
I thought the staff was pretty cool there. Especially the guy who found my bag of umm... basil(for spicing up the bland roo food) and put it right back in my backpack. And for having 80 thousand people pack together in the ungodly heat and only seeing one instace of hostility the whole time is a testament to the crowd and the organizers.
I live in Austin. I'm not a fan of SXSW (too expensive and totally geared towards the media and out of town acts now), and ACL can be beyond miserable because of how small zilker park is. Honestly, Bonnaroo spoils you. The diverse lineup, the set lengths, the non-stop music...it's just a great atmosphere. If ACL had any of those elements, I wouldn't even consider making the trek.

I love bonnaroo. I've been the last 3 years. I only live 2 hrs from Manchester, so not going seems stupid. However, last year's roo was a horse of a different color. While the music I saw was as amazing as ever, the crowd has changed. Everything seemed to take more effort and I ran into some mean staff..............
I also had some issues with crowd members last year, but i'm not going to let that ruin Bonnaroo for me. We had hippy "wanna-be" kids constantly screaming about all the "drugs" they were on, some loser pretending to freak-out on something (throwing stuff, falling into tents & screaming) and some jerk deficating outside our tent! All this made the fact that we were more tightly/overly packed-in to our sh*tty, rocky campsite the worst camping experience we've had at Roo so far. But, honestly it was campsite problems like these that help to convince us to spend virtually all weekend in Centeroo...And that was definitely a positive! If it weren't for "shoe-throwing" guy, I wouldn't have seen Steel Pulse play on saturday...and that was an amazing set! Yeah, it does suck that some people are just plain jackasses, but any time you get a crowd that large together, you are always going to find them (sometimes, many). As far as staff goes; every year I meet one nice guy then one schmuck, alternating repeatedly day-in & day-out. Wich security/staff guy you get is just a matter of dumb luck. Regardless of how you feel about your experience last year, I think you should reconsider quitting Roo entirely. Give it one more shot and see if it is really a new pattern emerging or just one bad year. IMHO.

People will see what they want to see. The crowd last year at Roo was no differant, I think the lineup just set off a hipster flag for some people, and they spent most of 'roo looking for the hipsters to ruin bonnaroo. I had wonderful neighbors as always, and though some of the crowd looked differant ( a very small portion) these people were usually nice too. My worst experiances have been with the said hippy "wanna-be's" seemingly attending bonnaroo solely for drugs.

Ditto. Last year was my first Roo and overall it was exactly the kind of crowd I expected, except for those people. We had some of them next to our tent at 4am - they couldn't have been older than maybe 16-17 - bragging about what drugs they were on, etc. etc. Luckily I had earplugs
I don't think I'll ever miss a Bonnaroo. And to call Phil Lesh sh;tty? I for one am happy to hear you won't be there.
Here Here!
I have never missed a 'Roo and I will never miss a 'Roo as long as I live.
If you want to nit pick about more "intimate sets", and about a few disgruntled staff members, go right ahead. If little stuff like that bothers you when you are around so much incredile music and so many incredible people, then u need help brother.
Bonnaroo is an experience, other festivals pail in comparison. I can't wait to boogie down when I set my eyes on the farm for the sixth time to hang out with 100,000 of my closest friends!
If there's one thing I don't need at a festival, it's "intimate sets". You can get that when you go see there shows individually. A festival is not meant to be intimate.
I want the Noise and the Funk, The Cachunka-chunk, Honkey Donkeyg, out of control, high energy show that makes you dance so hard your limbs vibrate on the way to the next show!
Lineup two days before birthday. What a nice early b-day present.
I have been to 2 Roos and have enjoyed them both. [glow=red,2,300](except for when Knoxville tried to kill me with the car exhaust last year)[/glow] I agree that Roo is what you make of it. Just as about anything in life, you can let it get you down and ruin an entire weekend of great times and great music, but it is entirely up to you.

The only reason you shouldnt go to Bonnaroo is if you don't like music. One of the great things about Roo each year is that i dont know half the bands and i come home loving lots of new music.
the one who patted me down and took my bowl and bag that were in my pocket and put them into his pocket was mean. but it was my fault for going into a line with a custie ass yuppie security prick. now i look for a chick with dreads and get in her line. seems to work everytime.

I didn't mean to call Phil Lesh shitty; what I mean was that I just didn't enjoy his set last year--I left early and headed to the tent.
More than anything, bonnaroo just lost some of its luster last year. Instead of being overwhelmed by the number of great bands and being unable to choose which one I wanted to see, I only had a few schedule conflicts.
I was only sad that I missed Cypress Hill b/c I sat thru Beck's stupid puppet show...should have been camped out at Claypool or MMW the whole time but I was trying to see a new band. And I don't seriously think RHCP would be a good headliner; their new music blows.
I'm sure the Police would put on a good headline show. We'll see what the line-up brings.
Essential Point: I went to All Good, bonnaroo, and Langerado last year and I would rank both the other ones over bonnaroo.
And seriously, "horse of a different color," you've never heard that one? You've never watched the Wizard of Oz and seen how they handle that pun?

Thats a good desciption of the Robert Randolph show in 04 Latenight after the Dead.
