and asked why the date was put off from the end of January. And got this:
Hi Jason,
Thanks for your interest in the Bonnaroo Festival. We urge you not to believe every rumor that is posted. We never planned on the end of Jan. We would appreciate it if you could spread the word.
You know, that's funny though... it wasn't a rumor that came out of this air- it was a quote from Superfly in an article. So a direct quote bolstered by five years of end-of-January announcements isn't rumor. Just to be blunt.
yaeh its true that a member of superfly was responsible for the end of january comment, but it seems like it was something said in passing, more of an approximate time than an official date.

Ashley Capps isn't a member of Superfly. He's in charge of AC entertainment.
Ashley Capps. No, he's not a member of SuperFly, but he is definitely an important part of the Bonnaroo experience. I grew-up in Knoxville, TN and "AC" entertainment was (by far) the biggest promoter in the area. Honestly, 95% of all shows that i've ever seen have been the fruit of Capps' loins. Rock to Rave, he has provided me with more memorable experiences than I can count (Ramones, Godflesh, Moby, Slayer, R.I.T.M., GWAR, etc..).
Wasn't the quote from someone claiming to be Ashley Capps on a message board? It's plausible that the person wasn't even him, just someone claiming to be him.
The last few years, they've released the dates in december, and the lineup by the end of january. Why they think it would take a rumor for someone to believe they would continue operating the same way is beyond me.
Ya know, I have to say that I've never been that impressed with the staff who answer emails about Bonnaroo. Up until two years ago, they had a link on the site where you could email them suggestions about bands that you'd like to see there. I made my suggestion and never heard back- until almost a year later, when they condescendingly told me that they don't accept fan suggestions for bands. Obviously, by then, they had taken that link off the board...but they could have approached the whole situation a bit more nicely.
Same with the original poster here. I guess the reply that Jason got wasn't too bad, but it still isn't necessary to assume that he "believed a rumor" about a line-up that has, as has been said, been posted at roughly the end of January every year.

Thats funny, after last years Bonnaroo I emailed them asking if they still took band suggestions. A few days later they emailed me back saying to send as many suggestions as I wanted too.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
Just like most organizations, there are some good apples and some bad. It definitely seems like they've got some people in the wrong roles, though. They almost had a Bonnamutiny with the Krewe of Roo!
Dude, your karma is incredible! Did you give away the ending to Million Dollar Baby while kicking a nun's puppy in the nads? Or are you one of those people that pulls up to someone's house to pick them up and just start honking your horn?

They have interns doing their grunt work for them. You get what you pay for sometimes.

Yeah, I remember getting a mass email perhaps around October '05 soliciting band suggestions. Naturally I sent a long list, but I was a bit surprised as I had also thought they didn't want suggestions. Maybe new management in that department?
I remember them soliciting band info as well. I also contacted one of the bands I wanted at Roo to see if it was a possibility and was informed by their manager that they had been trying to get into Roo for years but were given the impression that they weren't cool enough. I was so pissed!!!!! Oh well, I guess they have their vision for the festival -- even if they like to hide it from their attendees!!!!
