Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Hi to all. Been a little while since I've been monitoring the newsgroup, but I'm back now. Busy end of the year and, hey, it's retail. Hope all of you had a great Christmas and New Year's.
Of course all of you are aware of Tower's demise. Even though Tower was a competitor for me in Memphis and Nashville and B'roo last year, I had a lot of respect for Tower as a chain, as I said many times in previous postings. Now they are gone - RIP.
At the beginning of December '06, Cat's made an initial offer to Superfly for us to be back at Bonnaroo in '07. No action has been taken on the offer yet, according to the email exchange I had with Superfly just now, but I should hear back from them next week.
Anyway, I'm hoping we can get back out there again with all of you - I missed it last year. I'll keep you posted.
But I have to say- in all seriousness- if Cat's or whomever get this for '07, they need to hire the team who organized the autograph sessions last year. They were great, accomodating, very understanding and even-keeled even when they were screwed (like when Sonic Youth's management canceled and even fed them lies*). 2005's sessions by Cat's was a nightmare by comparison.
*The story was that Sonic Youth's bus broke down and that's why they canceled- but only 5 minutes before they were scheduled to be there... But later it was discovered that they were, in fact, already at the festival and they (or their management) just didn't want to do the signing. Unfortunately the session team had to deal with 100 people already in line.
Whoever is running the music tent, I think Bonnaroo needs to rethink the logistics of where it is located. With it right next to the sonic stage, there were many times over the festival when you couldn't even get near the CD tent due to the crowd watching the band on stage. Blues Traveler specifically comes to mind, I couldn't even walk past the sonic stage to get thru Centeroo it was so crowded in the area.

Good points. I've been a long-time poster over at the listserv, and I remember all the posts that Perk (the cat from Cat's Music) would do, chronicling their loss of the contract. I felt sad only insofar as a huge corporate chain was usurping a small, local business, but putting that aside, I honestly couldn't bring myself to care. I never thought Cat's had a great selection or prices. I know it's just a tent set up at a fest and their priorities must match their environment, but to me it's unnecessary to charge $15 or more for a CD, regardless of who you are. It made me miss the small, local stores I frequent here in the Baltimore area. What I'm getting at, I suppose, is that people want to support local businesses partly with the assumption that they care more about their customers and treat them better... but what if that's not the case? Sorry for the meandering rant, I've kind of wanted to say that re: Cat's for a while. Honestly, all the luck to them, though.
I agree with the congestion in the area. It definitely kept me away after mid-morning.
They folks who did the autograph signing at Lollapalooza (and it may have been Tower) did a great job. One thing that they did that I thought was cool was give you a priority wristband if you bought a cd by the band from them. For about $12 Stephanie was able to get a new Iron and Wine cd and got to meet her crush. I was a little concerned that she might not come back (okay, that security would forcibly remove her) but I was not about to leave My Morning Jacket to keep an eye on her
Is either company in a position to support Bonnaroo, really?
Tower is closing stores all over the country and Cat's, traditionally a regional music retailer, is even closing shop in Memphis. Drove past the store on Union Avenue yesterday and it looks like it's closed.

Tower's is dead- that's why they're looking at Cat's again. But I can't speak to Cat's viability.
But personally I think they should hand it to an independent store that has large-scale experience with sales AND artists (signings, performances) such as Plan 9 in Virginia or Easy Street in Seattle.

I agree, I never made it anywhere near there last year, it was always like there was this giant mob over there to the left when you walked in past all the food stands. I remember walking through near the time of blues traveler with some inforoo folks and i think we had to hold on to each other or get lost in the mob!
