Any locals hear anything about this? I know rumors about 'ROO are quite rampant. But at least this is from an actual news organization, not some random blogger.

"Bonnaroo Music Festival Buys The Farm" The Bonnaroo Music Festival could rake in the dough for Coffee County for years to come. The annual concert gives tens of thousands of dollars to local charities and features prominent rock groups in one of the most unlikely places.
Event organizers told Manchester officials that they plan to buy the 700 acre farm where thousands of people come every year for a weekend of music.
One economic analyst said taxes on the land may increase substantially if the farm is used for other events during the year. Early bird tickets went on sale for next year’s event earlier this month.

I think that's pretty cool. Think they would try to have more than one roo a year?
I think more than one festival a year would definitely be possible - but I think that it would differ from 'roo in the type of bands that they'd have (country, more mainstrean acts, etc.). I'm thinking kind of like how coachella has added the country-ish fest...
I have "heard" (rumors) for years that they have tossed around the idea of a country festival at the roo site.
I just don't know how many country fans would be keen on camping, roo style!
If it's the NASCAR/RV crowd, I could see a bunch of people attending. Plus, most country fans I know camp out several times a year. If they only had 30K people at a country-fest, think of the room between tents!

There was an article last year posted in here that had a quote for the farm. I forget what it was, but it was pretty lucractive. If im remembering correctly it was in the tens of millions.
Growing up I had lots of friends who used to go Jamboree in the Hills which was a decent sized country weekend-long country fest. I'm sure that they could sell it!
" can build something permenant making Bonnaroo something beyond our wildest dreams"
Like bathrooms and showers. that is one of my wildest dreams. It would be so nice to be able to take a shower while up there. I mean a real shower. Also, i would like to be able to go to the bathroom and not feel like I'm going to throw up from the wretched smell!

While I dont mind the port o pots I would love some sort of shower facility. A big dorm style community one would be hot. Actually I would like any sort of structure that provides water coming from at least 6 feet of the ground.
You know, they'll build all that stuff... and then we'll say:
I remember the OLD days! You don't know how good you have it at Bonnaroo. I used to have to walk in a foot of mud, uphill in sandals just to get to Centeroo. Now there's concrete roads and sidewalks. There were no showers! You were dirty and smelly all weekend long. It's just not the same. Flush toilets! What a luxury! We had to make our poops onto a pile of other people's poops in a nasty smelly port-a-potty. I tell ya! You were lucky if you opened the door and didn't find vomit on the other side or at least someone who forgot to lock it. And then you had to endure the smell of stewed feces while you did your business.
Seriously, concrete sidewalks and roads would really ruin a lot of the charm, but would probably be one of the first pemanent things to go in. Cheaper than buildings and useful, almost necessary if they're going to have other fests on the land throughout the year. They're also safer and would allow emergency vehicles to travel faster. But permanant roads and sidewalks would bring order to chaos!
Hmm... I'm not sure about permanent roads and sidewalks-- as soon as you build them, people start not using them (esp. drunk people). I bet they use this year as a planning year for things like that and only add them as they grow more certain of the more permanent structures and the paths they want to promote.
i agree that it might ruin some of it. but you dont have to shower. i have been to many fests that have showers and have never used them. who wants to waste time in a shower liine or taking a shower. i could handle the permanent roads. that dust was a killer. i had bonnaroo cough for months. and i heard stories that mouse tirds were getting kicked up in the dust and people were cathcing hanta virus or some nuts from it. i saw lot sof people with medical masks and bandannas over their faces last year. i didnt get it. i kept saying "hey there outlaw" to em. but now i get it and might have to do it. that roo cough was nasty.

I don't mind them buying the farm it helps secure the future of roo for a while. On the other hand all you talking about building it up an insane amount of commerical work paved roads and stuff like that it will take away from the true roo feeling of just getting away from everything and taking it easy enjoying the sunshine, rain, and what not w/ good music and vibes.
I'm having some nasty flashbacks to the burning hot asphault of Woodstock 99!
I'd be happy with more showering opportunities. How 'bout just adding a showering station down in the James Bond area. It was a half hour, forty-five minute walk and they had advertised the wrong price on the schedule and I had to turn around and walk all the way back. That was annoying!!!

That's a good point. I blew black snot for a week and had a nasty cough afterwards.
I definitely think some permanent structures would be good, but one of the most amazing things about roo is that only exists for one weekend and then it goes back to empty fields. It's marvelous. I just fear that over time if they continue to be successful that it would start to look more like Disneyland than a big muddy hippie fest. And then you're right on your way to paying for water.
Bonnaroo, the outdoor music festival, is moving in.
Sam McAllister, owner of the 500-plus acres where up to 90,000 music fans have camped each year since summer 2002, said he hopes to wrap up the deal as early as next week.
"Well, there's a few little things that has got to take place before it happens," McAllister said when contacted by phone at his Manchester, Tenn., home this afternoon.
Officials had been expecting the land to change hands. Last month festival organizers asked the Coffee County Board of Zoning Appeals for a permanent conditional use permit for the property.
The action, which would signify a permanent home for Bonnaroo and other smaller musical events, was contingent on the sale of the property, according to Ronnie Branch, county zoning administrator.
Bonnaroo was an immediate success in 2002, with big-name acts headlining the weekend event. The 2007 edition of Bonnaroo has been scheduled for June 14-17.

to my understanding, the owndership of the farm as private land was the reason security was so lax at roo cuz local law enforcement wasn't allowed to come in, all the security was hired by the festival. maybe now that the city owns the farm they will let in the local law enforcement as a way to generate some money for themselves through busts, fines, etc. just a thought, i guess we will see come june what has changed if anything
