Saw Thee Oh Sees and Courtney Barnett in the last 2 weeks. Both need a Thursday tent at Bonnaroo 2015
How does the new Oh Sees lineup compare to the old one?
Never saw the old lineup live (just videos). Brigid was probably missed more than Petey or Mike. The trio still sounded great though and Dwyer was on point. He admitted their setlist was limited because of familiarity with the older material, but they still played 15 songs.

How does the new Oh Sees lineup compare to the old one?
The new line-up still rips face, Brigid was probably missed though. I'm pretty sure the drummer is the guy from White Fence, and the bass was still sick. Dwyer was incredible! This band needs a late night set at roo at some point.

Good to hear they're still great. Although, Petey Dammit was my favorite to watch. It was like he was tortured by rock n roll demons while he played bass on a 6 string guitar. I remember reading somewhere that the drummer used to play in Panic at the Disco, of all places. And, I agree, about Bonnaroo. They are long overdue.
There can never, and will never, be another show quite like it.
More details to follow, after a much-needed snooze.
Suffice it to say, this bad boy is getting framed and mounted ASAP:
Everything about it, from the chopper entrance in the wine paddocks as the storm was threatenin', to the 'fake' rockstars hiding under some coats* (as if we had all magically forgotten who we were there to see) was every rock 'n' roll cliche stacked on top of itself 69 times over, executed with the utmost bombast and attitude. And it was glorious. And you better believe I got my ya-yas out.
*(Ron Wood? Surprisingly easily mistaken for a pile of old blankets).

Saw Tim Reynolds 3 at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley on Friday. That Reynolds guy knows his way around a guitar. Their cover of Steely Dan's Show Biz Kids was a personal highlight.

I saw Dope Body and Roomrunner last night in Knoxville with /usr/bin/simp. It started interesting because the venue's site listed 10pm for the show which is pretty standard for that venue. I get there at about 9:40. I open the door, and a woman is on stage doing stand-up. Apparently, there's a weekly stand-up thing there that I didn't know existed. It was funny. It was just confusing because it wasn't what I expected when I opened the door. As it turns out, 10pm is the time for doors for the show. At 11pm, a gentleman takes the stage. From what we gathered, the guy was from Knoxville, and it was his birthday. I am assuming they let him perform as a gift. He does about a 15 minute set of what I dubbed Spoken Word Death Metal Nintendocore. If you're on my snapchat, check out my story right now, and you can get a sample. I have no idea if it was any good because I never got a good grasp on what was even happening. Roomrunner was next. They were good despite the vocals getting totally lost in the mix. It was to the point where I was curious if the mic was even on. It did feature one of the better crowd interactions I have seen recently.
Guy in Crowd: Play Super Vague! Drummer: I don't even know if we remember how that one goes really. Guy: That's cool. I don't really remember how it goes either. Drummer: Fuck it. Ok. We're going to play something that sounds a lot like Super Vague. Guy: Woooooooo!!
Dope Body was fucking phenomenal. I liked it a good bit more than any of the recorded output from them. Their frontman is kind of a creepy awesome guy who sounded on point despite having sinus issues. It was funny to hear him sound fine during the songs but sound like hell while talking in between. To add emphasis to the show, the guitar player puked on stage during the set which made his playing all the much more impressive since we had no idea he was drunk and/or sick before that moment.

The singers of both bands were delightfully strung out. Awesome night.
Saw Caribou at the Social in Orlando last night and they were awesome. Opener was good too and she came out and played a song with Caribou as well, which was awesome. The only problem with the show were a couple VERYYYY minor sound issues (mostly the mix was off) Anywsy, I hope Caribou makes it to Roo next year and they get a LN slot in the Other Tent because they are more than capable of blowing peoples' minds if they do.

Since I got shutout on the Foo Fighters dickets today at HOB in nola (sold out in milliseconds), I went ahead and bought dickets to Caribou for friday. See ya there, monster.

Shivering Timbers are opening for Robyn Hitchcock tonight! Sooo excited. I have a +1 at the door and no +1 If anyone in Cleveland wants to meet me there in the next 45 minutes.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Nice. How's the sound/venue at One Eyed Jacks?
You're going to love that place, man. Sound is excellent. The atmosphere is the best of any venue in nola. It does kinda suck when they over-sell a show though and everyone is packed in tight, but that goes for pretty much any small venue.

Sounds like it's going to be a rad night.
I'll holla when I get in town...will probably be around 8:30-9ish. If the music doesn't start until 10, we can go get a beer at this cool little bar 1 block away called Original Dungeon.

Sounds good. Mrs. Monster will be on this trip, too (she's pretty crunk). I'll pm you my number in case you don't have it anymore.

Saw Fitz & The Tantrums at the Ithaca State Theater earlier this month. First time seeing them live and I have to say that they put on one hell of a show. So much raw energy and intensity. Even the songs from the new album (which IMHO is quite inferior to their debut album) translated really well live.
I went to Friday of FFF Fest, my first time at that festival. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Amon Amarth did great as they always do, wish they could have played longer. Also saw City and Colour, Alt-J, Death from above 1979, and of course Judas Priest. Then went downtown for the nites portion...and HOLY SHIT Steel Panther! they were great !
I saw Thee Oh Sees recently and was really impressed with the new lineup. I think they only really played 3 or so songs off Drop. Which was great because the rest of the show was filled with their more energetic stuff (The Dream, I Came from the Mountain, Tunnel Time, Tidal Wave, Carrion Crawler, Floating Coffin, etc.)
Edit: they also played what I believe is a new unreleased song called Web.
newly posting again for this upcoming festival season. sooo, without further ado -
in the last 2 months:
glass animals - good, fun show. the sound at the venue wasn't great. chet faker - god he's so hot. really great live as well. he was solo and did some beautiful looping. die antwoord - even fucking CRAZIER than at roo. so so good. YACHT & panda bear - YACHT was crazy energetic and fun. panda bear was even weirder than expected. la roux - SO FUN. a lot nostalgia & memories, but she definitely had the crowd dancing. phantogram - light show was even better than the last time. sarah barthel is still my girl crush. odesza - this was my 3rd time seeing them. my wallet got stolen 2 songs in, sooo I missed almost all of it dealing with the culprit and cops. rhye w/opener lo-fang - had never listened to lo-fang, and OMG so good live. I had mouth-open staring amazement at his looping abilities. rhye was SO good. took them a bit to find their groove, and when they did it was SEXY EMOTIONS EVERYWHERE. pizza underground - best show of 2014. wore a pizza costume. new pornographers - SOOO awesome to see a band so influential to my early music tastes. wish their set had more old tunes. interpol w/opener hundred waters - please please see hundred waters ASAP. they were so amazing. and interpol, again, so awesome to see a band so influential to my early music. their setlist, though, did play really well to their old tunes. sad they didn't play leif erickson, tho.
die antwoord - even fucking CRAZIER than at roo. so so good.
I don't know if I can believe that. lol
this picture is the most justice I can do. I have a few of ninja crowd surfing RIGHT in front of me. I about died.
also. I was unfortunately behind a rather heavyset, tall, sweaty lady at die antwoord at roo, who was apparently rolling for the first time (as she proclaimed loudly over and over again). so, being barely over 5' tall, I had the displeasure of strictly breathing in her body vapors all between disclosure and die antwoord. thought I was going to pass out and made for a really exhausting 3am show.
