This was our first year and we ended up in BFE and the walk to Centeroo almost killed us. Any suggestions as to how we could get a closer camping spot. I would have been happy to be around POD 9 or 10, but we were way out past 11
We came in on Thursday around 4pm from Nashville down 24 and then got routed out some back roads. Maybe coming in a different route or just earlier? Any suggestions?

hmmm. you only showed up a few hours after us.. just dont make that weird turn, stay on the highway, if they make you make that turn just do a U-turn and get back in line? cant think of any other suggestion
so i've been to Bonnaroo every year and have been stuck in BFE 3 out of those 5 years. I've come to learn you pretty much have 3 options here: 1. when they park you, don't allow yourself to become boxed in, and then move later when the parkers leave. 2. go to Tent only (which was very crowded this year it looked like) or 3. go VIP. That is pretty much the only way to avoid BFE. YOu have to remember 80% of the campsites are not very good in comparison to the 20% that are good, so there's a very low probability that you will end up with a good spot. Arriving at a certain time isn't gonna help you, as every year the timeframe for the good spots is going to change slightly based on certain variables.
We got there at 7am exactly on Thurs. I know we should've just stayed on the highway to get to the main entrance. But it was too late by that point. Live and learn.
I think coming in off of exit 112 westbound on 24 is a good start. Sometime in the late morning/early afternoon should get you a decent spot. (Or I could be completely wrong)
the past 2 years we have been as close as you can get without being in tent only. be sure to use the 24 west exit 112 entrance to roo and get there between 6-9 am and i can assure you a non bfe spot and like i sadi we have been within sight of tent only the last 2 years. actually we could see the main stage both years from camp. in 04 we came in from the other way and went in off of bushy branch(the country road) at 9 am on thursday and we got put out as far as you can possibly be.
Rv parking is pretty good, atleast where they put myself and my crew. We were right by pod #2....sick spot for sure!!
We tried to rent an RV before tickets went on sale and every RV in TN was rented already for that weekend. I guess I either go earlier and chance it or pay too much money for VIP........

we arrived FRIDAY at around noonish by shuttle and were able to find a spot in the camping only section....which was fairly full, but if you looked around there were definitely room for more tents.

we took the main entrance off 24west and waited in line for 4-5 hours. We got in at about 3pm and were placed by pod 8 which was about a 20 min. walk to centeroo, so it was not bad at all. I sincerely hope i don't get stuck in BFE next year tho.

Tent Only. Definately the way to go if you're more than a 10 minute walk to centeroo, in my opinion. It sucks to lug it all there and back, but in the end saves you so much walking back and forth. Plus its so much more fun, and has a great community feel to it.

I would be ok with sitting in line for hours if it meant I would be closer A 20 minute walk with big bags of ice sucked sooo much. The advantages of camping in BFE were: it was quiet at night (apart from the usual loud drunken idiots at 4am - which I don't think you can avoid), the port-a-johns were always clean with toilet paper, and the line for water/sinks was minimal.
As far as lugging to tent only goes, it can suck, but if you're prepared it can be allllrrriiiggghhhhttt. After our initial load on Wednesday night, we had to go back for our comically over filled cooler that weighed about as much as a Buick. We walked out to BFE (more like Double BFE) and maneuvered that monster out to the main road. After a bit of walking and swearing Bonnaroo up and down, a gentleman with a large gardening cart with monster tire wheels allowed us to piggyback the cooler on his cart up to tent only. It was a fu*king godsend -- so if you're out there cart man -- this one's for you... ::raises glass::
As for getting stuff back to the car, by buddy just walked back, retrieved the vehicle, and drove right up to tent only where we humped our crap right into the car. It didn't end up being as bad as expected.

and i'll take an hour or two of lugging crap when im still healthy on wednesday to having to walk 40 minutes at 5am saturday night when I can already see the sun coming up and i know its just a matter of time before it gets too hot to sleep
Ive been to Bonnaroo 2 years in a row... both years we came in Exit 112 off of 24 and didn't have to wait in any traffic at all (we were rather confused our first year after hearing all of the horror stories about the traffic). We arrived on Thursday between 7 and 9pm. Both years we ended up near Luke skywalker. It was pretty close to Centeroo
camped in BFE 2 years running and plan to be there next year.. I can't believe how many people do not like it. it took us, no longer than 20 minutes to walk to centeroo every time. If you look at the map, there's probably like 35% of the camps that would take longer than that. I would rather get in on wednesday night and secure my spot in BFE than come in on thursday and end up in the f*ckin boondocks and have like a 45 minute walk. it's all about being prepaired for that walk. for the month before roo, I ran alot so the walk wouldn't be so bad. and it worked because it was so much easier than 05.

are we referring to BFE as the spot on the other side of centeroo that's away from everything, or just as anywhere that's far away. Cuz the former isn't too bad, its not that far from centeroo, its really the 45 minute walks that suck

Maybe you misunderstand what I mean by BFE (Bum F*ck Egypt).... I mean all the way out on the edge of the campsite - way past Pod 11. It was at least a 30- 40 minute walk each way for us. I am ok with walking, but in that heat and also having to get ice from Pod 9 (a good 20 min walk) was a little much for us. I am 39, but my boyfriend and his friends in their late 20s had a hard time with it also.

Yeah thats what i was thinking when you said BFE. What site were you in? One of the Austin Powers? I was in Dr. Evil, hence going to tent only. DEFINATELY not worth the walk every time i wanted to go back and forth.

okay, sorry I did misunderstand you. I was in what I considered BFE, out by Pod 1. the camp all by itself through the trees by centeroo. Camp Pussy Galore to be exact. It's so peaceful out there. But people camped out there and complaind all the time.

Yep we were way out in the Austin Powers sites - not sure which one, but it was FAR I am seriously considering just saving the money for VIP next year.
Those of you who didn't like camping in BFE- would you consider going VIP next year to avoid that? I'm trying to gague how bad BFE really is and if VIP is worth it. It seems that the overall concensus is VIP is worth the extra money..
