So I've been using iGoogle more and more, and I noticed the other day that it had customized my weather settings on its own to correspond with where my relatives live. And it's not like my relatives are the people I email the most.
So yeah, igoogle creeps me out. Anybody else got any creepy google stories? Does it creep anybody else out that gmail provides ads that correspond with email content?

Not really. That's how they make their money. And it's not like they're reading the emails. There are millions of gmails sent every day (hour even, maybe); nobody's is really going to stand out.

i have igoogle but I don't use gmail... so it doesn't creep me out at all. I actually thoroughly enjoy the lava lamp and sudoku puzzles on my google homepage ;D
Well...here's the thing. I have friends all over the country. Most of them email me far more than my siblings do. But igoogle specifically picked the cities my family members live in. Hence the creep out factor.
I mean if it were a goverment organization then I'd probably agree with your orwellian suspicions but since it's a private coroporation I kinda like it. I like being told the weather for my parents town(Birmingham) and my sister's college even though they're like 30 miles apart and the weather is always the exact same. I also like the convenience. I click on the ads a lot because they've directed me towards some cool stuff I wouldn't have known about otherwise. You could always just get a new email server though.
whats worse was how Facebook listed on the "News Feed" things you buy online. A guy bought a $3,000 engagement ring for his girlfriend but the surprise was spoiled bc of Facebook.

Hmm... I've never noticed that about Facebook. I've never seen anyone else's purchases show up in my news feed. Unless of course you're buying things through facebook market place or something.
That really blew that guy's surprise though. Bummer
