We have nesting boxes in our backyard for birds. Supposed to be for eastern bluebirds, but we always get chickadees. (Better than nothing! So fun to watch them build nests and check out their eggs and watch the babies grow).
After seeing 2 bluebirds frolicking around the yard a bit, I discovered a bluebird egg in a box yesterday! I was so excited. I went back to look today (they "usually" lay about one a day, so I went to check progress). Nothing. I found 2 eggs pecked up on the ground though. ARG! We planted some grass seed recently which attracted some wrens and sparrows. I think one of those jerks decided to empty the bluebird nest box.
Birds are dicks. My sister (and soon me) has chickens. All the sudden she noticed that she wasn't getting as many eggs as normal. She set up a camera and come to find out, the crows where literally walking into the coop (it isn't open enough for them to fly into it) and stealing the fucking eggs. Fucking jerks.
I don't know what you can do to fix that solution. That really sucks.
If I ever find a job back east, we want to get a big piece of land and have chickens! Also, goats and pigs and a garden and peach trees and apple trees. And no neighbors.

There is an empty lot behind our house. The plan is to buy that in about 5 years. I will have neighbors but I can fence off the whole area, have my chickens, compost and whatever else I want back there.

I just saw one of the bluebirds back in the box. Hopefully they lay more eggs and the asshats stay away. Maybe the bluebirds should stick around and defend their eggs instead of frolicking about. Dumb birds.

I thought that bluejays were kind of assholes. I am really surprised that they are leaving the eggs unattended.

Whoa! Those are gorgeous! We only have mean, ugly bluejays here. Oh and cardinals...they are pretty. At least the boys are.
I rarely see them here even. We've had these nesting boxes for 4 years now and this is the first time we've had eastern bluebirds! I sure hope they stick around! They are so pretty. Cardinals are pretty. I have a picture of my kids holding a baby cardinal they found in the yard! (We really sound like crazy bird people)... XD

This made me think about my friend's mom's coop and how it has doors on timers (wouldn't help for daytime thieves though...), and it reminded me of this post. Yay for their pup!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

She is lucky that the dog did that. Chickens go into this trance like state at night and won't move. They become really easy prey to animals if they aren't in their coops at night. If they wouldn't have froze due to the weather from being out of the coop, they probably would have been killed by wild animals in the area. That is a fucking smart dog.
My girlfriend just did her taxes, and since she made about 5K more than last year, she has to pay back $750 in the insurance credit she got, plus another $750 for not enough being taken out in general. We have been planning and saving for a month-long cross-country road trip in June, and this is going to wipe her fund out entirely. And she had just said yesterday that the road trip is the one thing that was really keeping her spirits up (she's come to dislike both of her jobs more and more over the past few months). I feel superbad for her, and there's really not much we can do. =(

Eating healthy is hard when it's fucking Girl Scout cookie season and you forgot you bought $32 worth of deliciousness.
One year, my mom bought ten boxes of Girl Scout cookies, which she put in the basement refrigerator to be taken out one at a time. After the first box was empty, she went down to get the second one, and every single box was empty. Not gone or thrown away, just empty in the refrigerator. No one ever admitted to eating them, but my brother was a teenager at the time, and his room was right next to the closet with the refrigerator in it, so I think it's pretty safe to say it was him.

We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Would it be an option for her to set up an installment plan to pay off the tax debt? I don't know what the requirements are or if that might end up increasing what she owes too much because of interest or penalties, but it might be worth looking into.
Somethings are worth the consequences that follow. Are loans or credit cards an option? I had a good amount of debt from my 6 week roadtrip in 2013 and it was worth every damn penny plus some. There are plenty of opportunities to work in life, but not many chances to travel and explore. In 20 years will you remember the trip or the couple hundred bucks of interest you might end up paying?

I talked to her last night and I think she is looking into doing a payment plan.

That's a very good point, and that's her view on it as well. I tend to be conservative with my money since I grew up rather poor and am in superdebt now due to college loans...a decent chunk of which was spent on sending me to my first Bonnaroo. =)

I'll try to make this short. My oldest/best friend's younger brother just passed away and I'm headed home to attend the funeral. My girlfriend whom I love very much will not join me on the trip so she can study fer two big tests on Mon/Tues. I totally support her studies and work to make a better more successful future. But she has made two comments in the time since the death that have just infuriated me. Yes, I take my friendships very seriously. If I consider you a friend, you're pretty much as close as a brother or sister to me.
Now I was hopin' to propose to my lady later this year. We've been together almost four years. Most things are great between us. But this current event in my life that greatly affects my oldest friend is raisin' a flag or two in my mind. We had an argument 'bout it tonight. Maybe I care too much 'bout my friends and would do just 'bout anythin' to be there fer them.

Student loans suck. We finally have a plan to finish paying JR's off either late 2017 or early 2018. Less than one more year... As long as everything just behaves. Last year our daughter had a trip to the hospital (hello deductible met in 1 day), we had to replace our AC/furnace and before that, the water heater.
Dear fridge, stove, dishwasher and microwave, I know you came with the house so you're getting a little old. I promise to replace you with pretty stainless... But NOT THIS YEAR. Keep working.
Sorry for my personal student loan rant... JR finished college in 2009.
I hope you guys have the best trip!!! You definitely don't get those opportunities all the time!

But maybe I'm not totally crazy?
So sorry for your loss. Losing anyone is hard.
As for your lady, I hope you can work through it. Open communication is key. Sit down with her and tell her your feelings. Sending you hugs.

Apologies for long post below, but I'm pissed and want to vent/get advice.
I live in an area of Baltimore that's "up-and-coming" whatever that means. Yesterday, when we were coming home from the Orioles game, we pulled into our back alley and found a guy working on his truck in our alley, blocking our way. Eventually he moved but when we got out, he started hurling insults at my wife and I. I'm not one to back down, so we got into it. The guy wants to fight me because I'm not "from there" like he and his father are. Whatever. I told him we can fight anytime he wants, but I'm not fighting on concrete, I don't have a death wish. He kept running his mouth, talking crap to whomever would listen and screaming at my wife. This morning, we get up, and there's dog shit thrown on our front porch.
Has anyone had experience with stuff like this before? I'm upset at being insulted in my own house - which I came into and have poured money into for the 3 years I've been in it. My wife just wants to take the peaceful route (total hippie) but I'm having a tough time just sitting back - as I think this is just going to escalate.

I personally have never had anything like this happen, but I would 100% report it to the police. You pay your taxes, you keep your house nice, you are not in the wrong. Who cares if you weren't born and breed there? Does he even live close enough to use this alley that he was blocking? I mean he is a total dick and I get your wife not wanting to have any confrontation, but if shit like this continues you are going to want to have the law on your side, hence me suggesting you report it. It might have been a one off occurrence, but there is a chance (especially since he took the time to throw poop on your door) that this will escalate. Be prepared for the worst case scenario... I might have lived in a shitty area for too long though, since I feel this way.

Ugh that sounds awful. Not feeling at peace at home is not okay (I've been there, but a different situation).
I know kdogg has lots of experience in this arena, but fortunately for him he was renting and was able to leave. Any other advice kdogg ?
What's your wife's peaceful approach? Bake them dog poop brownies?

If you haven't put your foot upside his head yet then you just need to get a webcam. Post it up looking on the porch. And feed anything you get to the law.
If you decide to confront you gotta get that "I wont fight here" crap out of your head. You are going in to do work and must assume he will not stop til you are dead. Don't worry about the flooring, worry about the dumb angry human
Hope it resolves peaceful. In case of otherwise, well beat his ass.

My wife's response is "Oh he probably feels threatened since he's losing his neighborhood to people as they move in and the landscape is changing so we should just hope that it passes." I'm feeling like such a guy because I'm having an adverse reaction to my manhood being questioned, but I really don't see this guy just stopping.

He lives about 2 houses up from me but I can honestly say I've never seen him before this, or his father. I think he's just a complete asshole. The more time goes by, I learn that he also gave my little sister shit for the same thing when she came to take care of my cat while we were in NOLA last week. He's just an entitled jerk because he's "from there" and I'm not.
I'm also so sick and tired of every confrontation (at 35 years old) going immediately to "you're fat" "fatass" "fatty." Honestly, wtf America? Insult me for my hair, my shitty taste in music, or the fact that I have watched every episode of every season of the RR RW Challenge - change it up!

Jack off your dog onto your neighbor's porch. This technique has worked for me several times.

Sooo you're willing to fight....why exactly? Put your ego aside and go with the webcam idea or something else. Risking the well-being of yourself and potentially your family over some asshole with a bad attitude is a gross misappropriation of values, in my opinion. You say "this is just going to escalate" as if you don't have a say in the matter - but whether or not this escalates in terms of violence is completely up to you.
