Which is also why I like Taco Bell. I would have thought that the Fuzzman would have backed me up
I reall have no "beef" with Taco Bell. I've stopped there during many a late night. There are just so many better options around me. After I read these posts about Taco Bell I had to make a trip to the Taco Casa down the street. There is good Tex Mex and bad. If I'm dining out and decide on Tex Mex it will not be tacos or burritos I have, but chicken or shrimp fajitas, chicken fajita quesadillas with monterrey jack cheese and pico de gaillo, guacamole, and sour cream on the side, and sometimes a delicious chile relleno.
Do all of you Taco Bell supporters not have Chipotle, Taco Casa, Fuzzy's Taco, Rusty Taco, etc?
I think there is just one Chipotle in Knoxville. It's on campus, so I would have to deal with sh*tty parking and wading through a ton of college students. Taco Bell, on the other hand, is 3 minutes away from my office and has a drive thru.
Okay, look Taco Bell has its place and so does Tex Mex. But anyone who says Mexican food is "bland" has never had real Mexican food. If you think "enchiladas" and sizzlin' fajitas from Chile's is more flavorful and superior to the ancho chiles, chipotle flavor, jalapenos, serrano, habanero, cumin and cilantro flavored foods of Mexico - well, I can't help you. I will admit that I'm biased in that I lived in Mexico for quite some time and fell in love with all the flavors from the various regions and have never lived in Texas, but am bored silly with the boring, mass produced crap from most Tex Mex chain restaurants. But that's just me.

Exactly! Real Mexican food is where it is at. I always ask for whatever the kitchen is having when I go to my local Mexican restaurant(not fastfood).

I would never even think to have either of those items at a Chili's. The Tex-Mex I'm referring to uses those ingredients as do I in my own cooking. I was talking more about things associated with traditional Mexican that I've had like plantains that I find bland.
Now that I think about it I did try the quesadillas at Chili's once years ago. They were by far the worst and tasteless I've ever had. When the manager dropped by to ask how I was enjoying my meal I let her know and she took the dish back once to try and make it better and offered a second time. At that point I was just ready to accept what passed as Mexican there and get out.

Anyways, luckily the Grr's have not been too serious over the last two pages. Except Sig getting stiffed on some money owed to him. I hope that has been resolved. And expensive car troubles. I've had to deal with some of that lately as well.

See I think I might have found your problem. While I find plantains tasty, I can see how one would see them as bland or boring. However, they are more used in Cuban, Caribbean, or Filipino cooking than Mexican. Outside the Yucatan, the fried plantain is rare. The plantano, when used in the Mexican cooking I've had, is usually drenched in sugar and cinnamon, or fried with cojeta and quite delicious.
I simply find tacos with basically just meat and seasoning is well.. plain. I smother it in anything spicy just to pass the meal. I don't hate it. It's just nothing interesting. I prefer my Mexi type dishes stuffed with veggies and preferably with melty cheese and/or sour cream/guac/etc. (And I have been to Mexico, I have Mexican friends, and I work in a restaurant with 8,000 Mexican and other Hispanic employees and often try when they make for themselves (as Smooth mentioned). Again, not bad. Just usually plain.
But you all need to keep in mind that I need my food SUPER flavorful. 90% of what I eat is either super spicy, super garlicy, super vinegary.. I like food with a big pop.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I actually don't really mind the food at Chilis, but for the last three and a half years, it was basically the only option for a sit-down restaurant where we lived (there was also an Applebee's, but the food there was consistently blah), so now that we have a variety of places available, I may never eat at a Chilis again.

I've never been more happy for you One of the only chains worse than Chilis is Applebees
I haven't had a full dinner at a Chilis in at least 5 (probably way longer) years, but a smaaall handful of times I have stopped for happy hour and shoveled these in:

(With extra jalapenos, duh).
Holy crap. Those chips are completely wrapped in cheese.
Pops, have you ever dined at Nachomama's in Baltimore? It's basically the best place ever.
They are actually tostadas that are carefully covered, baked and then cut into chip size when complete which is why they are so perfectly covered. And I have to add that there's a layer of deliciousness between the tostada and cheese- not even sure what it is (it's been a while). Some sort of been (and beef?) mixture to add more flavor and texture.

I keep finding small nicks and cuts on my arms and hands that I can't figure out how I'm getting. I don't even notice them until they start to sting when I touch anything. It's like there is a tiny invisible ninja attacking me!

No thanks. We've got all kinds of delicious ones we're still trying.

I have not, but I'm back in Baltimore this weekend for a wedding and may have time to check it out. Thanks.
I haven't eaten at a Chili's in 10 years or so, but I don't remember it being significantly worse than any of the other interchangeable casual dining chains. But maybe my memory is fading, like some sort of noms amnesia (nomnesia?).
Applebee's, though... I ate at an Applebee's while visiting the US in July, because it was one of very few restaurants anywhere near my folks' place open after 10pm - and holy hell, was it ever terrible. No wonder Sealab 2021 dedicated a whole episode to making fun of them. Thankfully the bartender was fairly liberal with the booze, because crappy drunk munchies was about the best it could pass for.

So... when are we opening our restaurant together?
And chicojuarz, I'd like some recipes, if that offer is open to all. I've never lived in Mexico, but I was once almost bludgeoned to a pulp in Mexico City, so I think that oughta count.
Taco Hell.. zero nutrition, take with a zantac or three, purchase extra TP on the way home, worth the walk to the top of the street every now and then. Best 'meal' available under 3 bucks. <- 'nuf said. Plantains.. blah yes.. super fabulous as you are almost always in Hawaii or Central America when served. Recipes - yes please. American mexican chains suck. Go to Mexico and try the real thing. Grr.. Don't leave the resort it's not safe now a days for gringos. (BEST veggies i've ever had! or was that the breakfast bevies then the veggies?) Grr to skin cancer and bandaids. The last hole they made for biopsy is benign - yay! but there is still a hole in my neck and its royally pisssssssed off at the chemo cream where the band-aid was. Grr to not knowing if I can go to Low Anthem/Felice Brothers this Saturday..waiting to see if the chemo cream is going to turn my life into a brief but worthy hell.

Ack! I only got one cup of coffee in me before the Keurig went kaput this morning. This is my 2nd Keurig in 3.5 years. This company needs to step it up. A $125+ coffeemaker should last much longer than a year or so, especially when it's only used 2x a day.

Oh, I know all too well about that, given the skin cancer rates here (something like 2 out of 3 get some form of it by age 70). My dad and his brothers often have to get moles removed. And I'm sure your fair complexion doesn't help matters, either. Just remember that creams and bandages are but temporary annoyances, but a benign diagnosis trumps all (even if it's still a major PITA).

I'm sure that would be a very reasonable suggestion if I lived in crazykittensmile's 'hood, but damn it, Fawn! I can't just book a trip across the world every time I want tacos, however tempting that may be.

I called Keurig's customer service line and they are FedEx'ing me a brand new one!

You should definitely invest in a french press and a coffee grinder. It's much cheaper both in the long and short term, and tastes better!

Very true. But most of us who use a Keurig do it for the ease and the short amount of time it takes. Grinding and pressing coffee each morning is the exact opposite!

So, the Alaska mov3 that fueled many GRRRRs over the past couple of months is about 95% a go. The 5% that could fuck the whole thing up comes directly from my son's 3 year old ADHD diagnosis. We go to our clinic for the overseas screening, and lo and behold I don't have the paperwork needed for the physicals--delay number 1. Then my PCM hears of 3 year old off post diagnosis, and two days later they say he needs reevaluated. Now, we never medicated him for this, and after 6 months of behavioral therapy he was discharged by his counselor, so this evaluation would be equivalent to starting from scratch. Then we hear that he doesn't need the evaluation BECAUSE he wasn't on meds, and the paperwork from the clinic is ready and has to be hand delivered to EFMP (program that screens people for special needs, also in charge of clearing families going overseas for orders to be cut). Dropping off the paperwork today I find out that we are missing some paperwork, and because of all the fuss about the evaluation I have to hunt down my son's old counselor in this town that is a revolving door for mental health workers and get a memo stating he was discharged! It's like we take two steps forward and three back. I really wish we weren't moving--no longer because of the location, but the miles of red tape.
Sorry for the novel, just really needed to convey all that
