"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio."
I would dig U2, but I've got friends who really, really dislike U2. I try to ask why... and I can't get a straight answer. I think there is A LOT of blind U2 hatred in the world... Now I will say this: U2's 80s and early 90s output was amazing, consistently. The stuff from "Pop" to now... eh, it's not my cup of tea at all, so I could understand someone disliking them for that. But c'mon... you can't beat "Achtung Baby", "Joshua Tree," or"War."
So i checked the Tom Petty ticket sale today. Both his Boston and NY shows sold out; which is to be expected. No second shows have been added and for the most part that happens as soon as the first date is sold out. Also if you go to his web page here site.tompetty.com/tour/tour.html and check the NY date it has a mark next to it that says the date and time is subject to change. With all this said I think it's becoming more and more of a possibility that Tom Petty will be at Bonnaroo in some shape or form.

So shouldn't there be a reliable leak by this point. I am new to the whole waiting on the lineup thing. I usually let it come to me, but this year I am anxiously awaiting it.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.
As you probably already know... REM, The National and Modest Mouse are all on tour together and have open dates on the 12th and 15th of June. This leads me to believe that at least a couple of these acts will grace us with their presence at Bonnaroo.
-06/11/08 Washington, DC Merriweather Post Pavilion REM, Modest Mouse -06/13/08 Boston, MA Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts REM, Modest Mouse -06/14/08 Long Island, NY Jones Beach Theater REM, Modest Mouse -06/18/08 Philadelphia, PA Mann Center REM, Modest Mouse
Also, The Cure have June 14th available after their Fort Lauderdale show and before their Atlanta show on the 15th.
-Bank Atlantic Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL Friday June 13 2008 -Gwinnett Center, Duluth, GA Sunday June 15 2008
If all of these acts perform and LZ shows, I think Bonnaroo very well may implode.

"BONNAROO | The RUMORED Headliners + More Confirmations As of now, everything is just rumors or speculations. Here's what I hear. The three big headliners this year will be Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and The Kinks!!! If that's true, it's the festival of the year.
Other acts I hear are confirmed are: My Morning Jacket, Moe., Beth Orton, Kate Nash, Ani DiFrance, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Black Crowes, Alison Krauss and Robert Plantand don't be surprised if Jimmy Page is spotted around......................

It really wouldn't make sense for REM or MM to come to TN between DC and Boston or between Long Island and Philly. Just seems like a stretch to me.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
Ray Davies is a legend, but on the whole who really knows a wealth of The Kinks musical catalog. Most only know Lola and You Really Got Me. Sadly many probably know You Really Got Me from Van Halen.

Microsoft Excel calls that a "circular reference".. lol
You know.. the one's where people on THIS message board say The Kinks are gonna be at Bonnaroo. Some music blogger picks up the rumor story and then a guy reads the blog and posts it right back here along with a link?
Maybe they will be there (which would be awesome)... I just think its funny how this works : )
PS - I hate you, Bonnaroo for not even having a website up right now for me to refresh.
With all three of these bands (The National, MM, and REM) having a 4 day break between NY and PA, it makes perfect sense for them to come south and fill Sunday's Headliner and indie show quota. Yes it is a long flight/drive, but money talks and bonnaroo is producing plenty of revenue for these bands.

Anyone think Wilco will be back this year?
They only have tour dates posted through March right now. My gut says (sadly) no. Maybe Loose Fur? And also Son Volt. And then in a rush of Bonnaroo good will Farrar and Tweedy could make amends and throw a surprise UT reunion in Centeroo.
I really hope the site is back up soon with some information so I can stop obsessing. My guess is that they're testing some changes or load testing and we're not going to hear anything until late Tuesday/early Wednesday.
Oh, and I also prefer not to see U2 again. Only my opinion, but I think there are plenty other bands that have the catalogue and are more appealing/relevant than U2.
