I went to Tennessee Fire. I liked it and felt it the country roots but really liked where it (IMO) progressed to It Still Moves. I just started playing Z and really like that as well.
In my oft relayed opinion, At Dawn is still the best thing they've done. It can be a little rambling at times, but the highs are RIDICULOUSLY high and the whole thing just works. If you haven't heard it yet, make that your next step. I'd love to hear it again for the first time.

I went to iTunes and picked up At Dawn, It Still Moves and Z. When I found out that I couldn't decide which one was best there was only one decision. Burned them for my son and daughter who I'm going to have to punish for not turning me on to early MMJ. They're supposed to be looking out for their dad.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Have you heard his cover of the song "I'll never get out of this world alive?" It's a Hank Williams cover I got on a record store day single. I don't know why they're not putting it on the album.
Now I'm listening to the new Steve Earle album. But a second ago I was putting together a Bonnaroo 2011 playlist and enjoying the Black Angels' Phosgene Nightmare I got on Record Store Day.

I wanna call this the best record I've heard this year, thus far.
Amazing.
How does "Wake And Be Fine" compare to the other tracks? It's the only song I've heard from it when they played it on Fallon a few months ago.
Plus which of their previous albums do you think it most sounds like? Sorry for all the questions hah. I'm expecting them to be at Lolla since they don't have any Chicago dates this summer, and hoping they'd have an after show.
If you like Wake And Be Fine Your gonna love this album. It falls nicely in line with The Stand Ins which I loved but I wasn't even prepared for how this record is. It's really grabbed ahold of me the past few days. A wonderful spring album with its lush arrangements.
You're gonna love it.
I was having a conversation about Okkervil playing Lolla, just this weekend. I think your right. The omission of Chicago dates and not being on the P4K line up can only mean one thing. I hope you guys get em.
This is just getting me even more excited for June.
THANK YOU Tri-C JazzFest for bringing him to town again.
I saw him and Galactic at Terminal 5 in NYC a couple weeks ago.
He has fully surpassed Galactic, in my mind. He put on one of the most ridiculous individual instrumental performances I have ever seen.
He played the first set with his band, and because it was so nasty the crowd was considerably spent when Galactic came on. Galactic picked up on this immediately and had T-Shorty and his entire band come onstage and the two bands played a giant collaboration set for over an hour. It was awesome, but you could tell that T-Shorty was leading the jams. Wild, I saw him in '09 as a throw-in to the Galactic set. He blew me away then, then at his solo set last year. It's crazy that he's come this far so quickly. I guess it helps to be a world class musician at multiple instruments.
