It doesn't look like Newport has a radius clause, since Black Pumas just announced an 8/2 Boston show. So, as you're wondering who might be added to the rolling lineup, artists appearing elsewhere in New England, NYC, and Philadelphia within a week of the festival could be in play.
people not understanding what radius clauses are or how they work continues to be one of the best things about this stupid website
There’s a sincerity in sad girl music That stomp clap severely lacks.
also what "sad girl" music do they even book
We went over this last year. From past years... Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Madi Diaz, Clairo, Beebadoobee, Adrianne Lenker, Skullcrusher... it's a pretty long list. For what it's worth, I'd rather see quite literally all of them than The Head and the Heart.
Upcoming Shows: May 17: Neil Young and Crazy Horse May 30: The Rolling Stones July 19: Noah Kahan/Mt. Joy July 26: Newport Folk Festival August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles

I have to imagine it’s referencing some or all of Adrianne Lenker, Lana Del Ray, Angel Olsen, Indigo De Sauza, Odie Leigh, Erin Rae, Lucy Daucus, Japanese Breakfast, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Skullcrusher etc.

there were like maybe 4 acts that could qualify as "sad girl" last year and that's probably stretching it.
It would be nice to presumably see a Phoebe show in which the entirety of the crowd isn’t scream singing the lyrics over the music. That could be fun. I’ve seen Phoebe twice and vowed never again, but this would be a cool environment and a welcome headliner of Hozier for me

Phoebe Bridgers would be the ideal headliner for me, but she literally just gave an interview a couple months back where she vowed to do nothing public at all in 2024, deleted and wiped all her social media, etc.
MUNA is a great act on their own, they play plenty of shows where Phoebe isn't even remotely involved, doubt this means anything more than that.

And... Let's be honest, we already know that Hozier is probably Friday's headliner, so it doesn't make sense. 🤷♀️

Mountain Goats just announced a date in Woodstock, NY on 7/27 - could this be the year for a return? Do they count as a repeat artist if they haven't played since 2013?

Is this exciting for anyone in here? Sunday just is getting rougher and rougher for my taste.
I think I only know Shipping Up to Boston, but I'm intrigued to dive in deeper to see what else they have going on. It could be fun, but honestly I don't know enough to truly weigh in yet. I like that it's something more lively for Sunday
i didn't know the Dropkick Murphys existed outside of St Patricks Day anymore
“Novelty” is what comes to mind. I would be happy with them as a bonus but with every announcement getting closer and closer to the end, I’m less welcoming to a kitschy act.
