I've barely listened to anything new the past couple months. Slowly catching up. I liked Lupe Fiasco's album but haven't gotten a chance to sit and unpack it. Regina's was alright (I miss her glory days), Drake was meh (using a squeaking mattress as part of the rhythm section is rather cringe). Still gotta listen to Perfume Genius and a few others. I liked Goose but apparently have already seen half of it live so the familiarity dampened my excitement a little bit.

Lupe’s album was a lot better than his last one. He has some great songs on there but they are kinda hit and miss.

Lupe is incredibly underrated imo. I love pretty much everything he puts out. There is a musicality to his flow that is so influential. His praises need to be sung more. Also "Words I Never Said" from LASERS is possibly my favorite hip hop song ever.

Horsegirl - Versions of Modern Performance HM: Tove Styrke - HARD
I listened to Tove Styrke more when it came out, and by god it's great pop music, but this album is growing on me more and more, it legitimately may be my favorite album of the year so far. Perhaps second only to Yard Act. I'm honestly surprised this isn't getting way more play around here. Also, gotta love when my two favorite albums are from bands I didn't know existed mere months ago. Fuck that bartender at Sea Change under the Guthrie in Minneapolis who tried to convince me that you stop listening to new music after 30 when I was 23. Fuck that guy. Listen to Horsegirl.
The new Lizzo has been my go-to driving album the past few weeks. It’s not the best but a super fun album. Also digging the new Viagra Boys, Moor Mother, Imperial Triumphant, Wormrot, WU-LU, Vomit Forth, and Rico Nasty albums. It’s been a solid month thus far.

Been through it twice now and yeah, Renaissance is really good. The production really sticks out as unique, varied and just interesting to listen to. I don't feel like it sounds like a lot of other pop music that's coming out. Not saying it's revolutionary or anything but it certainly isn't cookie cutter.

Didn't see Apr, May, or Jun results updated yet but think the top votes for each of those months were Daniel Rossen, Kendrick, and Angel Olsen if I counted right. So inforoo's AOTM for the first half of 2022:
Jan - The Weeknd Feb - Big Thief Mar - Charlie XCX Apr - Daniel Rossen May - Kendrick Lamar Jun - Angel Olsen

Gonna have to listen again, but first impressions of Surrender (Maggie Rogers) are very average. Hard to follow up Heard It In A Past Life, but just found the album a little bland at times. I don’t really feel like it stacks up well against releases from other indie darlings like Phoebe, Lucy, Big Thief, Ethel Cain, etc. Personally liked King Princess’s new album better.
There was a lot of good music this month but none of it really compares to this for me, up there for album of the year for me
