Today is ridiculous. Sturgill Simpson, Kid Cudi, Ryan Adams, Cam'ron, Chris Cornell, OSees, Dirty Art Club, Gang Starr, Roosevelt, Deftones, Taylor Swift, Boldy James, The Kills, Foster the People, Belle & Sebastian, Jack Harlowe, James Blake, MWard, Landshapes and The Avalanches. And there's more. What did I miss?

For the purposes of an AOTY list, would you combine Sturgill's two records?
Vol. 2 probably won't win my AOTM, but Vol. 1 is on my AOTY list rn.
The James Blake though? Woof. That's a great record. (Super torn on whether or not to include EPs on an albums list. it would absolutely make my top 5)
Idk, I really like this Avalanches album. It feels like their take on a dream pop album, but because this is the Avalanches they have to cross the concept with every other genre of music.
The new Avalanches feels so directionless? Anyone else?
Probably Album of the Year for me. But the singles they've dropped over the course of the year have been my favorite music of 2020 so I was going in expecting to love it. But I do. I love how long it is, as well. Reminds me of an old rap album with skits.
Idk where you hear the dream pop on this, feels very house-y with nu-disco and neo-soul influences and ofcourse their usual plunderphonics/psych-y sampling. I liked the title track, The Devine Chord, Until Daylight Comes, Wherever You Go and a few others but most of these go either nowhere or sound unfinished plus it doesn't really flow aswell as their previous albums.

I left it off because it's not new songs. But like he said, do what you want. Lots of artists putting out 2 albums this year. Taylor, Sault, Sturgill, Dua Lipa with the remix album. I'll say in Dua's case, I didn't put the remix album on the list, but it probably influenced how high I put her album.

You’re right on that, I meant it more in abstract sense - heavier use of synths, more reverb, slower tempos or fewer drums, especially in the interludes. Especially contrasted with Wildflower which I always think of as their psych rock/folk album (even though there’s a lot of disco and house and R&B on that one too!).

Speaking of cover albums (James Blake's) Rosie Carney released her rendition of Radiohead's The Bends today too. Her version of Fake Plastic Trees is great.

The Blood Orange one, the Jamie/Neneh Cherry track, and the Leon Bridges collab stood out the most to me on first listen. The one with the Vashti Bunyan sample and Terrence Trent D'Arby is pretty too
Didn't really feel the Kurt Vile one much at all tbh

Hmm I feel it has more direction than Wildflower. It just seems a lot less sampling, a lot more trip hop / nu-disco. Maybe not what I expected, but it's growing on me with every listen.
