Taylor was always free to speak her mind, she was just a coward before.
Yes because calling her a coward on a Bonnaroo forum is soooooooo brave. I'm like inspired by your incredible bravery, keyboard warrior.
I personally don't see how pragmatically avoiding a career pitfall is cowardice, but I also never thought I'd be defending Taylor Swift so.
Taylor took the Michael Jordan stance of “even republicans buy nikes”. And her label likely emphasized that so it made it easy to avoid talking politics until she left her label and actually decided to share her opinions. What was always bothersome is that she only spoke out about anything when she had the big stage behind her ( grammy wins ), cause she obviously had gotten in hot water on twitter before so she kept quiet to save any embarrassments.
She could play Stagecoach and the audience would eat it up. Taylor made some of her newer songs sound country on her last tour, which nobody here went to. Besides, her core fanbase would buy all the tickets up and anyone who didnt like the idea could just sell their tickets for a ton of money. Again I will bring up that Taylor likes to do things nobody else can do. Case in point she will be the first female artist to open an nfl stadium when she performs at Sofi in Inglewood next year. If you’re Paul T, how are you not selling the idea of being the first and only artist ( for now ) to headline all 3 weekends. Its enticing, and could get the Dixies on the line up on top of that. For what its worth, AEG is the promoter for concerts at Sofi Stadium. What if all the festivals next year are just a test run to see how that environment works before really putting in work for Coachella, Roo and Lolla in 2021.
I just think its hilarious that she is considered a huge lgbtq icon just for one line in a song. Sorry, thats not how it works, and even the lgbtq community has seen through her bullshit.

Nah, she's been a huge LGBTQ icon since at least 1989.
Also, I wouldn't confuse the vocal internet minority for the majority of LGBTQ audiences when it comes to that song.
Lil Nas X will not be a "PR disaster" lol, even if he is promoted to the Mane Stage (which I think is at least a small possibility)
And Babymetal - I think they could do a "stripped down" show at Coachella similar to what they did at Glastonbury. Would still be nuts for most people.

I'm sure Babymetal's used Pyro before, but they also just played the Warfield in SF and I don't believe they had any there. They'd be fine in the Mojave.
I think outside of traditional scoops, headline level acts have just been less obvious to pick this year. It's really a toss up compared to years past.
edit: they definitely won't stop the cash flow by taking a year off though

Kinda thought we collectively agreed that 2019 was a de-facto fallow year. Didn't sell out for the first time in a while, had to pull some funky shiz with headliners last minute before lineup drop, plus they were down a subheadliner w/ Solange cancelling right before the fest. Not sure why anyone running the fest would think they need a "down" year following all that.
Also, I get this strange feeling that Travis breaking his knee may be the thing that gets ink on the contract. As much as I don't want him, I can't deny that he's likely in conversation with how Astroworld blew up and a new album on the way. Just feel like that event could make some AEG execs go "hey, we should probably slip a clause in there in case he can't perform, then might as well send over the contract and get this finalized."
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
