Making up for a slow concert year by hitting up Neon Indian, Twigs, Gesaffelstein, Pixies, and Strokes before the end of the year, anything else that should be on my radar?
Yeah, I'm definitely trying to hit up one of those Rapture shows. That's a small room for them, though - I have to imagine that'll be something of a hot ticket.
Meanwhile, the WASTE presale for Thom Yorke this morning was an exercise in total frustration. And already over 100 tickets available on Stubhub, already. Sigh.
EDITED TO ADD: At long last, having one friend with an AmEx paid off - in for the 12/4 Rapture show.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
Aw man, I will be in Japan then, would have loved to see them in such a small venue!
Lux Prima was an easy get today, had choice of AMEX or Venue Presale tix, Pit is available for this show. For myself, I opted for first row Mezz over Orchestra (I don't do pits much anymore) from the Venue Presale pool, so I will have a clear view.

I'm not gonna bother with Thom Yorke tix until the week/day of the show...this is what the subreddits are for , at least it works for me.
Mannnnnnnnnnn The Black Keys show felt so sterile last night at Barclays. Should have skipped that and saw Bon Iver and Wilco instead this past weekend. Sidenote, babysitter rates in Park Slope must have been INSANE this past week with those 3 in town all around the same time.

That's how I felt about the Black Keys when I saw them the tour before this one, which is why I didn't go see them this go round.

Second time's the charm - Ticketmaster verified fan presale for Thom Yorke worked out. Jesus, but playing whack-a-mole with that whole "another fan has beaten you to those seats" thing, and watching them slowly disappear off the map, is intense.

I still am bitter about my experience trying (and failling) to buy Tool tickets for Barclays with this happening.
Verified Fan is such a scam anyway. And who knows what the criteria is, it is all probably random. Like I had gotten completely denied VF for Madonna's recent run (and I have bought tix for her before), get online at General sale expecting not many tix and for them to be all expensive, and instead there were plenty and I scored a $50 seat easily.

I'm always amazed how many of you buy tickets at the on-sale
I don't remember the last ticket I bought further out than a week before the show...
I've started to take this approach as well knowing the market here for nearly 20 years. I saw the big open gap in Thom Yorke's dates and just thought "yeah....no need to jump on this now." Added to that fact was that the King's Theater shows weren't in super high demand even though they sold out and, as much as I love Radiohead, Thom Yorke's solo material tends to be a bit cold and glitchy at times even if it's still good. Also, after spending decades going to 100+ shows/year, I don't like having my calendar jam-packed anymore because then it ends up feeling like a chore so I like to leave things up to choice unless it's a big underplay that I know will be hugely in demand or something I'm 100% committed to going to.

I forget if I've asked this before but do you typically buy through Ticketmaster/Ticketfly or the official ticket? Or only really use Stubhub or craigslist? Mix of both?
I've had some success lately with two shows I got on Stubhub but there's always a couple of shows I know will sell out fast and I always want to avoid paying crazy high when someone eventually tries to sell one.

If it's not sold out I'll just get an official ticket. Occasionally for Bowery Presents shows I'll stop by Rough Trade and get a ticket there to avoid fees. Same with Elsewhere.
If it's sold out I just scan stubhub or facebook or keep my fingers crossed they're selling at the door.
I get the fear of bad seats or paying a higher price, and there are definitely some shows I missed out on for that reason, but overall I feel like the majority of the shows I care the most about don't sell out right away and are also GA. And normally the tickets that get crazy expensive weren't cheap to begin with.
It's hard for me to make concrete plans for a show months away, but I have been trying to start a rule with myself where if a ticket I want is $15 or less I should just buy it

After getting burned on this a couple of times last year (looking at you, David Byrne at King’s Theatre tickets that never dropped below $150 before fees on Stubhub), I’ve resorted to on sale for most of my purchases, especially since it’s often not just me I’m buying for, but also my wife and occasionally a couple of other friends. Finding a last-minute singleton is easier than finding 2-4 in a block, especially for the more in-demand shows.
That said, I don’t feel burned by the second show announcement for Thom Yorke at all. We’ll be trying for tickets to that one, too - having seen his performance last year at King’s, it’s more than worrh taking in two nights in a row, by my lights.

Did anyone go to OctFest? I felt that last year was way better (Only 6 free samples compared to 15 last year, and the tossware this year was smaller and fewer beer options) but can't complain since I got to see Screaming Females which were the best set of the night, also Mogwai, Duster, and Iceage.

I loved Iceage, Screaming Females, and Parquet Courts, wish PC had a little more time tho.

Yeah, it was an interesting transition. I hear you on the reduced number of free samples...but it also seemed like a LOT fewer stalls than last year gave a crap about actually scanning the wristbands. I legit had one guy say to me, “Put your wristband up there, and we’ll just pretend it scanned, since it’s not going to work, anyway.” So, that was nice. Best discovery was the Beacon Meadery’s black currant mead. Delish.
I felt like they did as well with the setup as they could given the space. Bleed from inside to outside was an issue, but every band played loud, so it was really only audible between songs on the overlaps. Mogwai was the undisputed highlight, for me - I last saw them at Webster Hall some...it has to be 7 or 8 years ago. My skull was straight vibrating after that set. Screaming Females, Lower Dens, and Iceage also rocked my face. I’m not much a Parquet Courts fan, so I kinda wish there’d been a different headliner, but you can’t have everything.
I don’t know - I’m always going to prefer and outdoor festival setup, and I thought last year’s lineup was better, but I also didn’t have to wait two hours for a ferry to leave, so, you know, pluses and minuses. Plus, my friend who works for October told me the thing was sold out, which. I never would have expected. I hope that success means it becomes an annual thing, because an older-skewing mini-festival with free beer samples is right up my alley.
