New album out on 9/22. I got some Radiohead vibes from this one.
Seriously a great band. So awesome to see Cory Hanson evolve so much. New stuff sounds like The Bends or Sunrise on the Sufferbus. Old stuff is like Thee Oh Sees. Makes for one heluva show. Everyone on this board should go see them on their fall tour.
Wilco released a new song call All Lives You Say? You can buy it from their bandcamp, with proceeds going to the Southern Poverty Law Center - it's also really good.
"My dad was named after a Civil War general, and he voted for Barack Obama twice. He used to say 'If you know better, you can do better.' America - we know better. We can do better." - Jeff Tweedy
Day for Bleep-bloops just keeps getting better. So damn excited for this one.
The final part in Kölsch's autobiographical album trilogy for Kompakt is due out next month.
After revisiting early childhood memories with 2013's 1977—the year of his birth—and looking back at his travels around Europe with 2015's 1983, Rune Reilly Kölsch's latest full-length, 1989, focuses on his turbulent early-teenage years. Besides the challenges of puberty, the Danish artist had to cope with his parents' divorce.
Kölsch, who grew up in Copenhagen, describes the period as "a difficult time in my life, where I mostly just remember the greyness of it all... I would escape that grey world on my skateboard, listen to my Walkman as I explored the city around me. Music became my saviour—the only way to overcome my family's hard times. I found a soundtrack to my grey life, and suddenly there was colour."
The album, which includes a handful of tracks titled "grey" in different languages, sees Kölsch continue his collaboration with Gregor Schwellenbach, a composer, multi-instrumentalist and fellow Kompakt affiliate who appeared on 1983. Schwellenbach conducts the Heritage Orchestra, a 24-piece group that features on four tracks. He also has a co-writing and co-production credit on "Serji." One other tune, "In Bottles," features vocals from Aurora Aksnes.
Tracklist 01. 1989 feat. Gregor Schwellenbach & The Heritage Orchestra 02. Serji feat. Gregor Schwellenbach & The Heritage Orchestra 03. Grå 04. In Bottles feat. Aurora Aksnes 05. Grey 06. Grau 07. Hey beebee, you're the only other one that cares: Brand New announced the release of LP5. The only thing close to a date I can find is that it "ships in October."
Kind of random question, but this seemed like the best thread for it. What's with the trend of band's releasing half their album as singles before the album comes out?

Imo, it's simply easier to share. A single doesn't need months of airplay for an album to get a push. The slow trickle creates consistent buzz.

Oneohtrix Point Never just said he is releasing a collaboration with David Byrne soon.
Q: in a recent AMA of his own David Byrne mentioned you when asked about people he's working with. i was wondering if you could shed any more light on that? it's a wild pairing.
A: YESSS. working with david was one of the true highlights of my life i have to say. he was working on his solo album (his first in a very long time) and he invited me to have a listen. then i started tinkering around on a few pre-existing songs. then i said, ok why dont we make one from scratch and we made a couple. and you'll hear them very soon.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
September is gonna be really crazy, y'all. There are already 43 albums I'm looking forward to. (For a full list, see Upcoming Releases thread.)
September is going to be a musical shit show for me. In addition to all the great releases, the amount of amazing shows coming through NYC is especially insane. In one week we've got Meadows, Arcade Fire, two shows each from Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Depeche Mode, Mount Eerie, and Big Thief, plus Father John Misty, Patti Smith, and Sturgill Simpson all playing different venues on the same day. Lots of other great smaller shows and stuff too.
