I have to stay more on top of new music this month. I crammed a lot of August releases into the last week. Didn't help that a ton of stuff came out last week.
They've had different singers for every album, so ya?
makes sense, I've only ever listened to s/t.
I assume your referring to the songs with Anhoni? Love that album but you're not alone in disliking it. This one has more of a Depeche Mode/INXS vibe vocally.

Holy shit!! I thought "wow this lady sounds just like Anohni" while listening to it, didn't even consider it actually was her. I actually did like that album though, just never got around to exploring more.
Just got around to listening to that Oh Sees album. They're one of those bands I've been meaning to dig into but never have, and wow this album is good. Any recommendations for which other records to check out? I know their album last year got a lot of praise

Weird Entrance/Exits both came out last year and were awesome. Same lineup as Orc I'm pretty sure, similar sound.
I really like Floating Coffin, Help, and Castlemania. Carrion Crawler isn't my favorite. (These are all Thee Oh See's records, not as familiar with the OCS/The Oh Sees stuff)

Bicep sounded pretty good on first listen. I've found myself incapable of getting more than a song or two into the week's other new releases without going back for more LCD Soundsystem though
Could vote this way just based off Static God. This is a really good record (not that my HMs arent) that checks all the right boxes for me.
Hm: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (w/ Mile High) - Sketches from East Brunswick - probably my #2, wasn't quite what I was expecting but I still really dug it. I do not like it as much as Murder the Universe which I feel like just came out, so I feel good about not giving it the vote (although this will be the first AoTM thread in which I don't vote for the new Giz
The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding - In the opposite of Sketches, A Deeper Understanding was exactly like I expected. Knew what I was going to get, still really enjoyed it. I really love that sound and I don't have a good enough understanding of Bruce Springsteens career to know if it is a derivative of the shitty part of his career.
Grizzly Bear - Painted Ruins - Not a huge Grizz fan by any means, all I really know is Veckatimest, with some to little knowledge of Shields, but I reallly liked this record. The other three are new records by bands I really like so there's an establishment factor that I'd probably like the record no matter what, but not with this one.

HM: King Gizzard w/ Mild High Club (very difficult choice between this and Thee Oh Sees, I'll probably end up listening to Brunswick East more) Grizzly Bear Sannhet
I've really been slacking on listening to new music, been living the classics lately.

Brunswick is definitely an easier listen, but Orc had more "wow" moments to me.

Live in San Francisco is a great starting point. I also really love Help. Carrion Crawler > Putifiers II > Floating Coffin is an awesome run of albums too.
I haven't dug in TOO much on the deep and sprawling history of Thee Oh Sees/John Dwyer but if you like the sound of Orc you will probably like most everything post Master's Bedroom.
