4:44 is so boring. Lyrically good and great storytelling, as always. But the production is amateurish and makes the album really forgettable.
you're just being contrarian to start an argument, aren't you
Nahhh. I thought I was going to hate the Calvin Harris album. Slide was fun but not really my thing. Ended up really liking the whole album. Was expecting to love 4:44, but I think using only No I.D. beats was a mistake (was originally looking forward to that aspect...)
Anyway nobody usually ever replies to my posts in this thread anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
4:44 is some of No I.D.'s best work and this probably marks the second time in three years he has produced the best sounding hip-hop album of the summer, if not the year

Radio station here is playing 4:44 all the way through. Not sure where I started or what the names of the songs are, but this sounding really nice. Havent disliked anything. Definitely not bending the genre or anything, but I needed this kind of jay album after MCHG.
There was one song that was fucking awesome. He was talking about Beyonce infidelity... whats the name? Nice getting this for the first time through car speakers.
Edit: realizing I popped in on the second song. Unless the first song is complete shit, this was probably the most consistent jay album ever. Didnt notice one clunker. All the beats were clean. Whole thing cohesive as fuck. My only problem is how safe it is. Hot take first reaction is:
HM: Ex Eye - Ex Eye Algiers - The Underside Of Power Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory SZA - CTRL Big Thief - Capacity Beach Fossils - Somersault Elder - Reflections Of A Floating World Spectre Folk - Vol. 4 Young Thug - Beautiful Thugger Girls House & Land - House & Land Bill Orcutt - Bill Orcutt
That list can go on and on and on. Let's see more months like this, please.
I wanted to give someone else some love but I would be lying to myself if I voted for another album... even though we had some great music this month.
HM: Algiers, SZA, Jay-Z, Jason Isbell + the 400 Unit, Portugal.the Man, Vince Staples, Phoenix, Big Thief, Cigarettes After Sex, Big Boi, Beth Ditto, Bedouine, King Gizzard + the LW, and Lapalux
so many votes with still a week before voting ends
It seems like a lot of the people voting have lengthy hm lists, so I'm thinking this may be a month where people were just really on top of their listening.
