I love their older albums but I can't get into the new one at all. I am going to give it a few more tries, though. It might grow on me over time... possibly.
I love their old stuff but new one doesn't really do it for me. Like, it's alright but not nearly the best this month. Hell, it's definitely not even their personal best
Same. They're a good band, but I wouldn't say they're a great band. I wonder if they're one of those bands that you need to see live to fully appreciate (although that is every band to some extent, but you know what I mean).
I think it's because they've released a mixture of about 7 studio albums, eps, and live albums in the past few years. It feels like they've been around longer than they actual have... that's not criticism, either. The more music, the better... as long as they keep up the quality.
Parquet Courts hit that perfect sweet spot of enjoyable melodies, catchy hooks and fun dissonance. They vary their sound up enough across each album that I always want to listen all the way though. Their lyrics are generally excellent. Sometimes they tell a good story (Berlin Got Blurry) or it focuses on one very specific idea that is representative of a larger issue (Dust). Over the course of an album those lyrics paired with the music creates a feeling of anxiety, unease, acceptance, and occasionally joy that I really identify with. A Parquet Courts album, for me at least, is always a very fun and cathartic experience.
Parquet Courts aren't really doing anything that hasn't been done before. And there's plenty of people who have done it as good or better than they do. But they've also released a ton of mostly consistent material in a pretty short amount of time. You do that enough and people will tend to get amped for a new release. Human Performance is definitely every bit as good as their other releases. So I think a lot of the hype is part, "Hey, this is a good album," and part, "Pretty cool that Parquet Courts are so damn consistent."
Human Performance is definitely leading the month for me but there's still a ton of great releases to check out. As has been said a million times, April is shaping up to be fantastic.
I've given some tracks multiple listens and the sound and ideas are growing on me. It'll probably make my top 3-5 for the month, but I'm still leaning towards Brass Bed.

Shit I forgot Vynehall was this month, for some reason thought it was last month. Right now I've only really enjoyed Vynehall and Hecker, but need to listen to a few more albums.
It's an ep, but this understated, local Minneapolis artist Morly's new four-song output Something More Holy is some solid minimal, electro-pop. Think of a more tuned down Lorde or MØ's 'Night Versions' songs. Here's a sample (ignore the nsfw-adjacent accompanying photo):

King Gizzard Woods Suuns Leon Vynehall Kevin Morby PJ Harvey EITS The Field
Those are my top contenders right now, although I still have some stuff to listen to (Dave Harrington, Tim Hecker, Tombs, Frankie Cosmos, Deftones). I didn't like Moderat at all (which was surprising), and I liked but didn't love Sturgill and Parquet Courts, both of which I'm planning on listening to again soon.

Mogwai is leading it for me, I think. It's a really great 'album', the only thing that really felt unique this month. Still have a few things to listen to though.
