I might get shit for this, but I want to point out that despite this festival having a pretty decent lineup and is one of the very few where you can swim in the ocean between sets, its still located in one of the most regressive states in the US in terms of civil rights and social freedom. If you are someone who highly values these things, you should speak with your dollars and not attend Hangout. If Roo hadn't pulled some (comparatively) less than stellar lineups the last two years this would also be a big concern since its located in Tennessee, which is slightly less regressive than Alabama (not counting Nashville and Knoxville proper).
tl;dr Don't financially support any Alabama-based fest because the state policy is hella regressive.

The heck with politics for a couple weeks in May. I vote for Cuervo, tuna dip, and senoritas. I'm planning on getting so bent that it won't matter what they are playing. All good, party on.

Hey tronik, I won't give you shit either. But the fuck racism chant in the tent led by Flavor Flav a few years back was how I feel about it. Just because the South has a disproportionate share of assholes doesn't mean everyone here is one. I could name you 6 or 7 posters from Mobile that I'd hang out with anywhere. We can't help the backwards aspects of an ignorant mind. But where those mindsets exist, you have to know there will be a dichotomy as well.
Oh and spot checking in on the Ultra Livestream Day 2 confirms everything bad ever said about the terribleness of pop EDM. There are lots of cute girls but lots of douchebag guys who know words to songs my daughter wouldn't have been listening to by age 10. Absolutely terrible, and they cheated me out of A$AP Ferg in favor of extended Dash Berlin. Those 10 minutes have been an absolute musical lowlight. Maybe Afrojack or the few minutes of Cypress Hill they have scheduled will offer up something.

Another day closer. Day 53 and Band of Horses. Hope you enjoy.
Band of Horses is an American rock band formed in 2004 in Seattle by Ben Bridwell. The band has released five studio albums, the most successful of which is 2010's Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms. On February 24, 2014, Band of Horses released a ten track live album, Acoustic at the Ryman, featuring stripped down versions of some of their best known songs. The album was recorded over two nights in April 2013 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The band played a 13-date run of acoustic performances across the U.S., which commenced on 11 February at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and concluded on 5 March at The Ryman itself. The band's lineup, which included Mat Brooke for the debut album, has undergone several changes; although the current lineup of Bridwell, Ryan Monroe, Tyler Ramsey, Bill Reynolds, and Creighton Barrett, has been together for several years. Band of Horses' fifth studio album, Why Are You OK, was released in June 2016.
KEXP and a couple other stations do a good job with these recordings. My friends just played for WSM "drive time" in Nashville. I try to find concert clips but, between ads and hand held, hard to find a good sound and picture quality live video clip. Band of Horses folk/Americana style is right up my alley.
I'll be on the gulf. I am planning on meeting up but, I'm having a difficult time making a decision to pay $300 for a ticket, commuting and parking everyday, just to see a couple bands. It will likely be a last minute decision. Already have Bonnaroo ticket.
Monday morning, 52 more days til Hangout Pre-party. Thought I would start the morning off with Local Natives. Local Natives (previously known as Cavil at Rest) is an American indie rock band based in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, California, United States. Their debut album, Gorilla Manor, was first released in the UK in November 2009, and later released in the US on February 16, 2010. The album received mostly positive reviews and debuted in the Billboard 200 and at No. 3 in the New Artist Chart. Their second album, Hummingbird, was released in January 2013. Their third album, Sunlit Youth, was released in September 2016. Their sound has been described as "afropop-influenced guitars with hyperactive drumming and hooky three-part harmonies". (Wiki)

Did y'all watch the dj snake set last night from ultra???? Fingers crossed he doesnt bring out future on us that was the worst part.
No way were those songs with Future the worst part. The whole set was annoying me off and on. But it was a big party. I never really had a positive opinion of Ultra, but it's the biggest teenie bopper fest I've ever watched any of on tv. The last show they closed out with was a Justice set from the Live Stage which was about the only thing I really liked of anything I saw all weekend.

dude it was a totally pre recorded set but regardless when future got out there to sing in and out off key to his backing track the show energy went from 10 to 3. it was rough.

Also, wasn't it AEG or GV CEO that was "exposed to having homophobic idealogy or something? Might as well avoid any shows/fest put on by them since we don't know of that is true or if Hangout and associated contractors have similar mantras.
It's the AEG Live Nation guy - Phil Anschutz. He's the worst and from Colorado. Good luck seeing a show anywhere witout him getting some kiND of cut. Also owns a bunch of sports teams I believe.

You're going to have to boycott a lot of things in every vein of life if this is the direction you're hoping to take.
Avoiding lightning strikes, tornadoes, high wind, and floods last night, I am thankful that we are only 51 days from Hangout. I selected Weezer for my Tuesday feature.
Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1992, consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass guitar, backing vocals). Weezer has sold 9.2 million albums in the US and over 17 million worldwide.
After signing to Geffen Records in 1993, the band released its debut self-titled album, also known as the Blue Album, in 1994. Backed by successful music videos for the singles "Buddy Holly", "Undone – The Sweater Song" and "Say It Ain't So", the Blue Album became a triple-platinum success. Weezer's second album, Pinkerton (1996), featuring a darker, more abrasive sound, was a commercial failure and initially received mixed reviews, but went on to achieve cult status and critical acclaim years later. Both the Blue Album and Pinkerton are now frequently cited among the best albums of the 1990s. Following the tour for Pinkerton, bassist Matt Sharp left the band and Weezer went on hiatus.
One of the ten acts I'd like to see at Hangout 2017.

I tried to scan tour dates and most bands playing Hangout this year are open. There were a few nuggets. I'm guessing Mumford Main/DJ Snake Surf Friday 19th, 21 Pilots Main/Major Lazer Surf Saturday 20th, and Frank Ocean Main/Chance Surf Sunday 21st. Weezer warming up for Mumford would be good for me.
Band of Horses plays NOLA the 19th and El Paso the 23rd Chance the Rapper looks like 21st Franz Ferdinand plays Nashville 23rd Marshmello in Vegas 19th and lists Hangout 21st Sigour Ros in NOLA the 21st The Head the Heart in Orlando the 19th and lists Hangout 20-21 The Strumbellas list Hangout the 19th Warpaint has Hangout the 19th and Illinois the 20th
Just saw this, all I got to say is Chance and Frank on the same day would make me extremely sad, they need to put Frank up against a shitty edm act

My trailer neighbor back in the 70s made bongs out of PVC and plumbers hardware, connected aquarium air pumps, and sold those suckers all over the world. He probably got an MBA and paid his loans off reading High Times and putting his concepts into production. Then again, more likely smoked his profits.
