I hope Thee Oh Sees album is on the same level as their 2 releases so I just crown it my AOTM, because I'm not gonna be able to choose between Metz and Mikal Cronin. I can't and I won't.
I have a feeling my vote is going to be between those three.
Bop English - Constant Bop I hope this'll still count for a vote. I just got home from Lady Lamb. I'll edit this with a write-up at some point tomorrow. I have to re-order my brain from the last several weeks before I can write confidently on or about anything.
I feel like I am missing out on something in respect to the new Blur album... I am a huge Blur fan and a fan of the musicians in Blur. The new album is getting great reviews and people on here like it. Every time I listen to it, I just don't connect with it. And that "Ice Cream Man" song might be my least favorite of theirs. I am going to erase it from my memory and revisit it later in the year and maybe I can connect to it. I hate not loving a Blur album!

Im not an avid Blur fan but I do enjoy all of their catalog. I felt the same way, just couldnt connect with the new one. In fact, I didnt connect with anything this month which is why I didnt bother to vote for anything this month. May looks promising though
May is giving March a run so far with Kamasi Washington, LA-BAS, Torres, MMJ, Mikal Cronin, Hiatus Kaiyote, Patrick Watson, Tallest Man on Earth. Excited for UMO and Hot Chip too.
I am not a huge Mumford and Sons fan... I mean I enjoy their albums but never enough to purchase the vinyl or put them on an end-of-the-year list. Strangely enough, their new album has completely become a guilty pleasure of mine. It's been receiving very polarizing reviews from the critics but I kind of enjoy the absence of banjos (let's be honest - they were never true bluegrass). I didn't necessarily enjoy it the first 2-3 times but it has grown on me big time. "Wilder Mind" may be one of their best songs and has a kind of vibe that The National's last album had... and "Monster" is such a beautiful song. It's mainstream and radio-friendly and everything I usually hate about music... but it's also a simple, well-told, and poignant album on the separation of two people. Aren't we all allowed to have a few shameful guilty pleasure albums in our music vault? /

So that Kamasi Washigton album is absolutely astounding. I'm only a causal jazz fan, and had planned to listen to The Epic in 2~3 sittings. Yet once I started it, I ended up listening to the whole thing.
Between that one, and Thee Oh Sees, Mikal Cronin, Hot Chip, and METZ, this month will be damn near impossible to pick a favorite.
Kind of think the Shamir hype is getting blown out of proportion. I think it is a great album, but I am reading comparisons to MJ and Prince which is crazy.
So now that Hot Chip is officially out, i really really love Why Make Sense?. Digging MCIII as well. Haen't listen to Shanmir yet, but cool to hear comparisons even if it is overblown because if it is anything like MJ or Prince i'll definitely like it. So far amazing year of music and i know i'm way behind on listening to some albums as well
