Okay, I’m just going to say it: Jesus Is King is a 10/10.
It may not be what you specifically wanted, but it’s doing so many cool things. Ye continues to innovate and be at the forefront of concept albums and artistic minimalism in hip hop.

Ehhh I finally gave it a full listen today. There are some great songs sprinkled throughout but it’s far from a 10/10. There are some serious serious duds. I’d put it on par with 808s but if there were more than one RoboCop

Whoa whoa whoa, what's wrong with RoboCop?
It sounds like Kanye trying to sound like Coldplay but took the worst aspects of both of their sounds
I'm just finishing my first full listen through since I got cut short at work earlier today. The first half of the album isn't too bad; it lacks compared to Ye's prior stuff but for what it is - gospel with elements of hip-hop - it isn't horrible. But then as I'm listening it just takes a nosedive, starting with about "God Is". That was the point that I was like "Okay yea I can't really handle this anymore"...but I make my way through this track with Clipse, and it's nice to hear No Malice on a track again, but his verse doesn't blow me away or anything.
AND THEN THAT KENNY G SAX SOLO. God duhduh damn. I literally started laughing out loud. Thank goodness it was basically the last track. I'd be quite happy at this point if Kanye just takes a backseat and produces for artists he likes for the rest of his career. He can make pleasant tones and his beats are still good overall, but his rapping is de stinky pu-pu and his songwriting/composition just isn't even close to what it used to be. Stale lyrics and subject matter aside, these tracks just don't go anywhere. The dynamism of his previous stuff is just gone.
Just gave it two listens in a row. Overall I like it; short enough that the Christ-y-ness doesn't outstay it's welcome, interesting enough production that the good songs get bumped up to great. Ya, there's a lot of half-baked stuff in there, but I think I'd prefer that to some bloated, Drizzy-type Scorpion shit

You didn't like Use This Gospel?
Take out the Kenny G solo and it's serviceable. But I also read that Pusha and No Malice originally recorded their verses over a trap beat, which is why sometimes they sound like they're not rapping in sync with the beat, so yeah I think there's much room for improvement.

I actually liked the solo; makes it so that when the beat comes back it's that much nicer

Agreed, I just think it's unfortunate the beat only lasts like 30 seconds when it comes back.

I finished the album. There was about 1.5 minutes during "Water" before Kanye started talking that I enjoyed. Other than that, the album is mostly pretty bad.
But honestly y'all, you can have Kanye. Between the Trump and GOP support, his comments about how Democrats are brainwashing black people into getting abortions, his tax comments, him saying he will no longer perform secular music anymore, etc. I'm done with giving the guy a chance.
I was never a true fan to begin with, but I had come around this past year or so to enjoying his stuff. I just can't support this guy anymore. Getting back on the hate train
