Shabazz Palaces was great, but it's not something I could listen to on the day to day. Schoolboy Q was this year, at least we got Collard Greens out of that.
One of the worst in recent memory. Worse than last year, for sure. Only releases I've really enjoyed are Statik Selektah, Step Brothers, Cormega, String Theory, maybe Blu. I think that MadGibbs album is crazy overrated.

There have been some stellar singles. Collard Greens is great, "Move That Dope" is an absolute stunner, Drake kept up his recent string of having the best beats around with "0 to 100," etc.

. Indeed, well, Kanye was rumoured to drop an album by the end of the year right? The year in hip hop is certainly still salvageable, tho I don't really expect a "hip hop" album from Kanye.
Yeah anyone saying this year sucks hasn't been paying attention. Some great records have came out.
I think a lot of good records have come out (War on Drugs, Warpaint, Cloud Nothings, Angel Olsen, Beck, Future Islands, The Men, Madgibbs, Strand of Oaks, Taylor McFerrin) but up until this month, which was really good, the only great ones to me were Todd Terje and Sturgill Simpson. I enjoy all the good ones, but I'll probably have forgotten about over half of them in 12 months.

Yeah I suppose I can agree with that last sentence. Plenty of great albums, few with any long-term staying power.

Half of Move That Dope is a stunner. The Pusha T and Pharrell parts anyway, fuck Future and that other guy.
This might be my favorite year in music ever. Rock is back in a huge way and I'm loving it.
Lock this in as my vote.
Ty Segall - Manipulator
Love the new Spoon, but I can't help but compare it to their previous albums and it just doesn't stand up to those. It came down between this and FKA Twigs (honorable mention to The Bug), and in the end I don't think FKA Twigs will be on my radar for long. I remember absolutely LOVING House of Balloons when it first came out, and now I can't even name another Weeknd album; I think FKA Twigs will be the same, amazing at first but I'll slowly forget about it. This Ty Segall is definitely gonna be on my list for a while though.
