You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Hell to the Yes. I was hoping a thread would pop up here soon. I'll piggy back off Black Dynamite with five players I'm excited to see go to work this year:
-Andre Drummond- Finally getting a green light this year as far as his minutes go. If he stays healthy he could be a DPOY dark horse. -Eric Bledsoe- Goran Dragic called him a little Lebron or something of that sorts. Finally gets a starting gig. -Derrick Rose- The reasons here should be obvious. The NBA is in a better place when he's healthy and playing. -Ricky Rubio- I really want to see what he does in a season where both he and his key teammates can stay healthy. Has extra mileage from the Eurobasket, so hopefully he isn't the one who winds up on the trainer's table. -Jeff Green- He was monstrous at times last year (that 43 point game against Miami was nuts) and will be the focus of the Boston offense. I'll also be interested to see if he winds up in a package with Rondo whenever Danny Ainge decides to send off the last of the ex-Big Four.
The one team I'll highlight is Indiana, who got a lot deeper with the additions of Luis Scola, CJ Watson and a healthy Danny Granger. Obviously a lot of things will happen between now and then, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is the team that finally topples the Heat in the playoffs. A King George vs King James rivalry would be awesome too.
Anyway, that's enough of my foolish opinions. Can't wait to see this shiz go down. :-)

You're excited? I'm very curious to see how it's going to work out to say the least...
I think there's serious bust potential for NY this year.
Teams I'm excited to see play together this year: Houston Golden State New Orleans Brooklyn Detroit
Yeah, I'm excited to have a 7 foot offensively gifted player to be a PF with one of the best defensive centers standing next to him. Keep in mind that Bargnani has never really had a gifted offensive player next to him. Demar Derozen lately, I guess, but now he's just going to run pick and rolls and get open jump shots off of Melo double teams. I don't see the Knicks busting this year unless they get injured.
Nobody ever mentions San Antonio ... and yet they are always there at the end. My question for this year is, "Can they do it again?" Nobody on that team is getting any younger.

you're forgetting that Melo and JR never pass the ball.
The Pelicans name is pretty old news at this point, but we did really miss out on a great opportunity to be the New Orleans Rougarou. Basically a Louisiana version of Big Foot mixed with a werewolf.
Just finished my fantasy draft. It's a ten team head to head league with 11 categories (All your normal cats plus Free Throws Made, Assist:Turnover, and Offensive Rebounds) and I had the seventh pick. Tell me what you think of this team:

Im excited to see J. Kidd coaching this year. Added bonus Rasheed is an assistant on Detroit. Got me thinking, in the next 10-15 years whos going to be the next Phil Jackson/Doc Rivers? Usually the superstars dont make the transition so well, but its an interesting thought. I can see Nash, maybe Ray Allen. Not to far fetched to think Manu, Parker, and Duncan could do it. These guys are older in a game of youth. You dont make it this far in a career without a great amount of talent AND vast knowledge of how the game is played.

I assume you're punting free throws? (Howard + Drummond) Otherwise that's solid, I'm stunned you got Calderon so late, I think he has a great year in Dallas.
You nailed it. Punting FT% specifically, since Howard can still produce in the free throws made category better than most due to the pure volume of foul shots he'll take. I remember one game in particular last year (maybe against Golden State?) where he had almost 40 free throw attempts. Dwight barely hit over half of them, but it still swung that category in my favor for the week. Drummond won't be as valuable in that regard, but his defense should make up for his awful foul shooting.
I feel like Calderon gets forgotten in the PG shuffle. He's not flashy like a lot of the bigger names but is still really solid in almost every way you want a PG to be. He could flourish with the finishers around him. Or injuries could wreck the whole thing. I'm hoping for the former.

Does anyone really give a sh*t about Doc Rivers covering up the Lakers' banners for Clippers' home games? I've seen the story featured on Sporscenter every day for what feels like a week. I actually support the move. He is trying to establish a culture and for the first time in forever, the Clippers are the better team.

No, I really don't. And the fact that the Clippers are going to be far-and-away better this year should make it even more of a non-issue.
With most teams likely to go into tank mode in advance of next year's deep draft(and also being a Bobhornetcat fan), I could see this happening. It makes sense we would continue to ruin our future competitiveness, at least. MJ for president 2016!

^^^ We still have 3 first round picks next year so we should be able to pick up some talent in a loaded draft class. If we don't make the playoffs we could have 3 lottery picks as well.

Horn-cats are definitely a fringe playoff team. They should not be too worried about getting a high lottery pick next year. Use the money they won't have to pay Ben Gordon to sign someone good in free agency. There is already a solid nucleus of young talent.
The Horncats are an interesting team. Those early picks should start paying off in a big way this year and Al Jeff gives them an inside scoring presence that they've never really had.
I think they sneak into the playoffs as a 7/8 seed and get walloped in the first round. To be clear, that'd be a successful season for them, imo.
I just want to see Kemba Walker keep doing well. My favorite college player since Emeka Okafor.
The fantasy team I drafted last night would appreciate it. They should be running pick-n-rolls with Kemba all game with Zeller and Al Jeff. And if they run the PNR with Al Jeff then things open up for Zeller who is a great mid-range shooter for a big man.
I think they make some noise, things are finally moving in the right direction down in Charlotte. (at least I'll get one coherent comment out of that mess in the NFL thread)

I just feel bad for Howard. He's not Kobe or Lebron. He's not going to take 1,000 turn-around jumpers every day of the offseason to make that a part of his game. I think Houston is a good fit for him because he's not going to be relied on for big scoring numbers, they need him to protect the rim, set bone-rattling picks, rebound and finish pick n' rolls. Give him a low # of set plays per game (5-10, max) and let him earn the right for more.
He's a fantastic player and I root for him because he's a good guy, but he's not Hakeem. Just try and picture Howard doing the Dream Shake without laughing, you can't, I've tried. I feel like all the parallels being drawn between Howard and Hakeem are inflating Houston fans' hopes more than they need to be. I hope they do well, and they're a fun team to watch with a advanced metrics guy at the helm, they have an old-school legend as a coach....I mean, there's a lot to like there. I just worry that Howard puts too much pressure on himself to be the next Hakeem instead of becoming the newest version of Dwight Howard.

I'd say that the fans down here including myself don't expect Howard to be the 'Next Olajuwon'. That would set the bar pretty high and unfair to Dwight. Hakeem is a legend here in Houston. You gotta remember we've never won a Super Bowl or a World Series. So the back to back championships is the only thing that sport fans here in town can hang their hat on. My personal expectation for D12 is that he'll average somewhere in between 18-20ppg and 12-14rpg and everything else you mentioned earlier. Regardless of his lack of offensive moves defensives have to respect and collapse on him when hes in the paint. Which is something they did not have to do with Omer Asik. Combine that with James Harden slashing in the lane and our abundance of 3point shooters I think its a great team the Houston GM Darryl Morey assembled.
Overall Im excited and hopefully they won't be a let down like the Texans. In fact, I went to the last home preseason games and the fans were already hyped about the team. Ended up apart of a victory parade inside Toyota center
