Great! Glad to hear! I can only imagine the fallout from a headliner walking off stage.
Also, the full lineup from Xponential. I'd be shocked if at least one of our remaining additions does not come from this list.

Awww don't be jealous that I get to see all those bands for $60 with less of a crowd.
I'm definitely not jealous. I'm not going to say that's not a great little fest if you're from (or live around) Philly.
But there's a reason we are willing to pay a small premium to go to Newport. A great festival experience. A beautiful location. A true who's who of relevant folk artists. The fact that I can get as close to the main stage as I want.
If yall had a friend who was planning on going to Newport (let's just call him Mark B)
I know why you chose Mark B, but it's still a funny choice. At first I thought you were trying to call out k2b "Wait, he totally loves Ryan Adams, what are you talking about?"

And best of all, it's not in Camden.
I'm sure Newport is a great festival. I enjoy XPN because I get to see a large portion of the same lineup for a fraction of the cost. I can get close to the main stages with ease as well. Even better, once the festival ends I get to take a 10 minute ferry right back over to Philadelphia for some nightlife. You're right about Camden though. It's hard out here in these streets..
Isn't this where the headliners play? And they charge extra for seats? But let's face it, both of these festivals would have lesser lineups without the other (FloydFest probably helps as well).

Sigh...since I know I can't go to NFF this year, I have a love/hate relationship with the lineup announcements. I'm scared every morning to see who I'll be missing out on! My thoughts are, "Please let it be someone my friends who are going will love, but not someone on my bucket list." So far, I haven't been dealt too many terrible blows, although there are several artists I know I'd get into more if I were going. Sun Kil Moon would be one of them.

This is correct. The $60 will give me lawn tix for HLers. If I really like the HLers I have the option to buy $45 tix, then buy seats for HLers separately. I did this last year for Americanarama & Lumineers/Dr. Dog.
It's clear Newport has some really great offerings, I'm not disputing that. I was mainly commenting because someone said XPN was biting of Newport. That's just a silly opinion, clearly the fests are targeting a similar demographic, and they work with each other to sign artists. Both fests are great. I think XPN is a fest that more inforooers should explore, especially if they can't make Newport work.
Well, I don't think it's too far off to say the smaller, newer, and radio-staged festival is biting off of the bigger and one of the oldest music festivals in the country. BUT, I definitely think it's easier to lure acts like DRA and BoH this way when there are two festivals that they can play back to back. And I would definitely consider Xpontential if I couldn't make NFF work. I really want the Districts to end up at Newport.

I did a double take as well.
Wow, didn't even think of that It was going to be Mark D, but I thought that would have been a little too obvious

If my July wasn't already so full, I'd consider doing both. I'll be in TN the weekend before and will be either at Vibes (same weekend) or Hudson Project. Even if I do Hudson- 4 weeks in a row will kill me, my vacation time and my funds!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Who's on your bucket list (that could fit in at a folk festival)?
I don't have this already made up...haha, but some acts I haven't seen yet that I would be really bummed about missing that I think could play Newport (some may be a tad of a stretch):
The Tallest Man on Earth Lissie Lady Lamb the Beekeeper Kacey Musgraves Passenger Bon Iver The Cave Singers First Aid Kit (one of the reasons I'm most upset about missing Roo) Elephant Revival
Then there are a few acts I have seen, but absolutely love and would hate to miss:
Brandi Carlile Laura Marling The Head and the Heart Father John Misty Lord Huron Ben Howard Wye Oak
I'm not super familiar with a lot of the legacy acts (I was raised in a house with R&B, so Lionel Richie at Roo is a bigger loss as far as that goes), so I don't really mind missing those.
But yeah, I want y'all to have the best festival possible, so whatever happens, I'll be glad for all of you!
I still think it's because they went back to the 2012 (and earlier?) way of booking the Museum Stage. I could see someone like Anais Mitchell closing down the Museum Stage. Maybe someone like Tall Tall Tress will be in there is as well. That would explain 3 or 4 more acts on Friday this year as opposed to last year.

That just about mirrors my list for people I would haven't seen. With the addition of Ryan Adams and a couple other acts there this year. And Fleet Foxes if they ever rise again. But I don't think any that you mentioned are out of the question. Not sure if Bon Iver is still a thing. I've only seen Father John Misty solo and am dying to see him with the band, but I think I'd rather that be his own headlining show
Hmm. Time to go directly to the source. I just tweeted NFF asking if Friday would be any longer this year than last year. I'll let you know if I get an answer.
However, I just saw on Facebook that someone asked when the festival ends each day. They replied at sunset between 7:15 and 7:35. No specific mention that Friday would run into darkness this year.
If they announce Kacey Musgraves for NFF, I will It'll help ease the pain of missing out on tickets for her show with Katy Perry (yes... I said it!)
But I'm already happy with the lineup. I get to knock DRA, Nickel Creek, Band of Horses, and Ed Helms off of my bucket list. Last year had the same number of must-see-someday acts for me (Beck, Lumineers, Lord Huron, and Feist), and there are still more announcements to go!

I am still kicking myself for missing Kacey Musgraves' set at Roo last year. I typically only really drink one night of Roo every year, and that was Saturday last year. Hungover me didn't make it to her early set. I could partially hear it from my tent, but still.......I did make it to Lucius though.
There are lots of bands already announced that I'm sad to be missing, but not many that are killing me. These include (in lineup by day order):
Band of Horses Sun Kil Moon Jenny Lewis (will see at Shaky Knees) Lake Street Dive Deer Tick (will see at SK) Puss N Boots Lucius (have seen twice, and will see as part of San Fermin at SK) J. Roddy Walston & The Business Shakey Graves The Oh Hello's Conor Oberst (will see at Shaky Knees) Dawes (have seen twice, and will see at SK) Trampled by Turles (have seen, and will see at SK)
At first, I was not too happy with how much crossover there is between Shaky Knees and NFF, but now that I'm missing Newport, I'm thrilled I'll get to see so many of those acts!
I admittedly am not familiar with Ryan Adams at all, which according to y'all's reaction about getting to see him, is probably for the best (so I don't truly know what I'm missing out on).
Next year, my friends...next year. Already looking forward to it!

Shakey Knees was one of my favorite lineups of the year. So bummed I can't go. I wish Kacey Musgraves was touring with Katy Perry because I'm going to see her anyways (she's a not-really-guilty pleasure of mine) but instead I get Capital Cities as the opener... however Kacey is touring with Willie Nelson and Allison Krauss and I should be seeing that show, so that'll be nice.
Also want to mention that I saw Leif Vollebekk last night and he did an awesome set. His songs and musicianship are fantastic and he's super charming in an awkward way that was just great (as the night's headliner, William Fitzsimmons, put it, "you just want to put him in your pocket and carry him around with you"). I got to talk to him after and he told me that he's bringing his full band to Newport which should be really cool. Not sure how many of you have seen him, but let me know what you thought.
Woah. He's opening for William? I just got invited to William's show tomorrow night. I was on the fence about going (have seen him twice before), but may need to do it to support one of the Folk.

Yeah I think Leif's opening some and Ben Sollee is doing others. I actually didn't know William until I found about the show. But it was at my school and tickets for students were cheap, so I figured why not. Definitely not disappointed. Some great music from both of them.
