I'm actually quite familiar with Clutch, given that I live in DC.
but, have you listened to that album?
it was hard for me to come up with a 90's list. I kept thinking are any of these really overlooked? everyone on this board at least has heard pretty much everything. idk if i could do anything older for the same reason.

I am familiar with the songs Dave mentioned (I don't like them), but no, I did not just sit down and listen to that whole thing to prove a point.
To be completely fair, I know there's at least one Clutch song I enjoy, because I remember being shocked when I heard it.
Horn posted a Wilson Phillips song on his facebook the other day. Given its 1990 release date, I will go ahead and consider his opinion on the entire decade invalid.
Clutch has Animal Farm, Big News and The House That Peterbilt on it.
I tried listening to The House That Peterbilt because I felt I had never given Clutch a fair chance and that name sounded intriguing. I couldn't make it past one minute of the song.

too much rock?
I could get past that since I liked the groove somewhat of their rhythm section. It was the screaming I could not take.
I wouldn't use the word "screaming" for the vocals, but if you liked the groove, I would suggest you listen to their stuff as The Bakerton Group which is their instrumental side project.

I would recommend you just keep listening. I think you'll find that it's the best rhythm section in the business and great guitar riffs. that album is older and their older stuff had more harsh vocals, but I think you should be able to get passed that. if not, try stuff from the Robot Hive/Exodus and From Beale Street To Oblivion albums, which is pretty bluesy and the vocals are toned down a bit. and like Dave said, Bakerton Group, which is just Clutch instrumental.
Alright enough Clutch talk, someone for the love of god submit a list.
Hey, it's not our fault somebody had to start sh*t rather than letting a pick they thought sucked go by without comment like everyone did with that STS9 album.
then I don't know what to tell you. I don't hear anything like Clutch on rock radio.
I was referring to the guitar riffs on the song I listened to earlier. This one...
maybe they're a little heavier than you're use to. but the blues influence became more obvious in later releases. listen to some of the other 2 albums that I mentioned. or just keep overlooking them.
For the record, I don't think it counts as "overlooking" when you've looked, decided it sucks, and moved on.
Ha! I wouldn't say they sucked, just not my personal thing. And I haven't listened to a whole song I don't think. But if Horn says they suck it must be true. Right?
What's ironic is the reason I don't like Clutch is because I find them to be super cheesy and light.
there's definitely some cheese. you have to have a sense of humor to like the lyrics/delivery. but light? never heard that one. I just can't fathom anyone that likes rock music not liking Clutch. there's nothing about Clutch that doesn't rock. the only thing I can understand is not liking the vocals, I know that's not for everyone.
still can't. never going to. because it doesn't make sense.
Dave Maynar find these guys a video where they can watch JP playing live (I can't play videos at work). then I want them to explain to me why they think it sucks.
