For a long time I had no respect for Coach Saban, I am a Dolphins Fan. Over the years that has changed. I am still a fan of the Dolphins, but my respect for Saban has changed. He would be an idiot to leave and Alabama would be stupid to let him go.
I think Alabama knows what they have. There's a statement in the articles about his contract that says they have committed to keeping him at the top of the pay scale for head coaches, so if he leaves, it's not for the lack for Bama trying.
I was thinking more about doing it for pride, but I have nothing against anyone that wants to get together and put their owns stakes on it.
I vote throwing in some money that goes to the winner just in straight cash or towards a Bonnaroo ticket or something. Even if it's like $10. If enough people want to just do it for fun, I'll shut up.

I could see the rigors of being a big national program in a small college town wear on a coach, even at Alabama. Everybody there lives and dies with the program, its what the whole town is about morning, noon and night 365 days a week. You cant escape for a day even if you wanted to without leaving town. At least in Austin, its a diverse enough city to get a slight amount of personal freedom. People actually move to Austin by choice for opportunity. Sure Texas football is a huge deal but the entire city as a whole does not live and die with it.
What do you guys think of the names Jim Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin, and Urban Meyer being thrown around by writers for the Texas job if Saban doesn't work out?

I heard those names mentioned on talk radio earlier today. I don't see Harbaugh leaving the NFL with the success he has had there. Ohio State was Meyer's dream job, so I think he stays put unless the contract they offer is too good to pass on. I really have not thought about Tomlin. I think there would be several pro teams lining up to hire him. I don't know what they're going to do, but I'm sure they have someone lined up if they oust Mack, which it seems now like they will have to do against his will.
The only time I thought the speculation of Saban coaching in Austin had any ground was back in September when news of Fluker being paid by someone who could potentially be deemed a booster. If Alabama were to be stripped of championships or have any type of other stipulations handed down by the NCAA I could see Saban leaving.

Agreed on the speculation on the other coaches. I have been wondering how much of Brown's opposition to the rumors is true and how much is just politics. He's not going to say he is getting fired before the official announcement especially when he apparently still has a good relationship with the university. On the other hand, he is a long enough term coach to where ending his employment isn't as cut and dry as it would be for a newer coach.
Relating it to how Fulmer was ousted at Tennessee. Even when a coach isn't winning as much, getting rid of him in the wrong fashion can easily backfire. I think people knew Fulmer's time was done, but it wasn't handled very well which immediately made people hate Mike Hamilton. So if the Texas administration doesn't make it as clean as possible, even with a new AD, people will be calling for heads.

Really, Mike Hamilton was a d*ck for multiple reasons. Some people were going to be mad about Fulmer's firing regardless of how it was handled because Fulmer was so connected with the university for such a long time. He played for Tennessee and spent 28 of his 33 seasons coaching coaching for Tennessee in various capacities. I think much of what Texas' AD (and whoever the new coach may be if there is one) needs to worry about is that the fanbase is going to expect immediate improvement. Their expectations are at a place as to where Texas can't go 8-4 and get stomped out by Oklahoma next season with the fanbase being pissed and calling for heads.
I hope Saban takes the Texas job, because it will be the most glorious event in football history when Cutcliffe turns down Bama to stay at Duke.
So you're saying we wouldn't just promote Kirby Smart to HC? And I couldn't see us going after Cutcliffe.
Mostly meant that as a joke, but for the sake of conversation, Cutcliffe went to Alabama and was a student assistant on some of Bear Bryant's teams, so I don't think its impossible. If they went for a hire, and not a promotion, I would think he would, at the very least, be on their radar.

Saban is leaving Bama for ATX for not only the chance to add to his legacy of building dynasties but for the delicious tacos and to hang out in bars and listen to live music
I hope. Recruiting has been horrible since Mushcamp left.

F*ck! I forgot about ACL. Saban is totally moving for that sh*t.

Saban heard The Cure was there this year and vowed never again to miss it.

And no state taxes. Mainly tacos though. Maybe the amount of in-state talent. Ahh, screw it. I'll find something else to wish for.
Austin does have good Tacos. And fuzzy, I almost want to let you have Muschamp back.
No thanks. I knew a couple of people whose sons and nephews played defense on area state championship teams that were recruited directly by Mushcamp and were upset when he left and considered following him to Gainesville. Also Winston has said he wanted to play for the Longhorns but was never made an offer. Other reports that I don't know that I should take seriously say that Brown considered recruiting Manziel and Griffin III as defensive backs.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
That son of a b*tch! Why would you not want to get drafted by the Texans? Suure we were the biggest disappointment in the NFL but it wasn't because lack of talent. As far as a team getting the number overall pick we still got significant talent.
Oh well I guess that means we have to have my favorite player in College Football for the past two years

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Junior running back Terrance West broke the NCAA FCS playoff record with 354 rushing yards on 39 attempts and scored five touchdowns to lead the fifth-ranked Tigers (12-2) to a 49-39 victory over No. 2 Eastern Illinois (12-2) in the NCAA FCS quarter-finals before a crowd of 3,850 and a national TV audience on ESPN2 at snow-covered O’Brien Field on Friday evening.
With the win, the Tigers advanced to the NCAA FCS semi-finals next week. The Tigers will play the winner of the Eastern Washington-Jacksonville State game which will be played on Saturday.
One of three finalists for the Walter Payton Award, West increased his seasonal total to 39 touchdowns, tying the NCAA FCS single season record for touchdowns scored. He shares the record with Omar Cuff of Delaware, who scored 39 TD’s in 2007.
West, who wasn’t aware that he broke any records, admitted that he doesn’t worry about records. He said, “I’m not concerned about records. This is all about winning. We came into this game well-prepared and the offensive line did a great job blocking.”
However, the Tigers weren’t as prepared for the snow that covered the field, thanks to a snow storm that started two hours before kickoff.
“It took us a while to get used to the snow,” said Towson Coach Rob Ambrose. “We have never even practiced on a snowy field. Once we figured out what we could, we were fine.”
Led by senior quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois wasted little time showing off its fast-break offense. That averaged 48 points per game.
On their opening drive, the Panthers marched 76 yards on 17 plays in 4:47. They took a 7-0 lead when Garoppolo threw a three-yard touchdown pass to All-American Erik Lora with 10:13 left in the first quarter. On their opening drive, the Panthers converted two fourth down opportunities.
After the Tigers went three-and-out on the first possession, the Panthers offense went back to work. They drove 63 yards on six plays and extended their lead to 14-0 when Garoppolo scored on a six-yard touchdown run.
After that touchdown, the game turned dramatically.
On their second possession, the Tigers put together a solid drive. Led by West, the Tigers reached the Eastern Illinois nine-yard line. However, the Panthers’ defense stopped West on fourth down-and-two.
After the Tiger defense forced the Panthers to punt, West burst through the right side for a 47-yard run to the Panthers’ 25-yard line. On that run, he broke the Towson single season rushing record of 2,016 yards. Tony Vinson set the record in 1993.
Four plays later, West scored his 35th touchdown of the season on a nine-yard run and the Tigers cut their deficit to 14-7 with 12:40 left in the first half.
After the Tiger defense stopped Eastern Illinois on its next drive, the Tigers had another impressive drive. Towson marched 63 yards on 10 plays and tied the game at 14-14. After a 22-yard run by Darius Victor, back-up quarterback Connor Frazier scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 8:21 left in the half.
The Tigers took their first lead of the game when West scampered around left end and broke a few tackles on his way to a 63-yard TD run. That gave the Tigers a 21-14 lead with 4:39 left in the half.
Towson missed a great scoring opportunity when Victor fumbled at the Panthers’ eight-yard line. However, Keiondre Gober fumbled at the Panthers’ 44-yard line and Ryan Delaire recovered for Towson.
On the final play of the first half, Drew Evangelista attempted a 31-yard field goal but the kick was blocked by Pat Wertz and the teams went to halftime with Towson leading, 21-14.
On the opening kickoff of the second half, Jordan Love fumbled and the Panthers recovered at the Towson 36-yard line. Six plays later, Garoppolo scored on a one-yard run and Eastern Illinois tied the game, 21-21 with 13:15 left in the third quarter.
The game wasn’t tied for very long. On their next possession, the Tigers went 75 yards on seven plays in just 3:15. West scored his third touchdown of the game on a six-yard run to give Towson a 28-21 lead.
On their next possession, the Panthers drove deep into Towson territory where the drive stalled. Cameron Berra kicked a 28-yard field goal and Eastern Illinois cut its deficit to 28-24.
When West capped off a 70-yard, 10-play drive with a five-yard touchdown run, the Tigers had their biggest lead of the game at 35-24.
Early in the fourth quarter, Eastern Illinois cut its deficit to 35-32 when Garoppolo threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Jeff LePak. The Panthers also scored on the two-point conversion to pull within 35-32.
A 59-yard punt by Evangelista pinned the Panthers deep in their own territory. When Scott Weatherford punted from his own end zone, the Tigers took over at the Panthers’ 42-yard line. Three plays later, Victor scored on a three-yard run and Towson led, 42-32.
A sack by Delaire at the Eastern Illinois 22-yard line forced a fumble by Garoppolo that was recovered by Syd Holt. With 7:33 remaining, West scored on a three-yard TD run for his fifth touchdown of the game and a 49-32 lead.
It marked the third time this season that West scored five touchdowns in a game.
With 3:08 left, Ryan Meyer closed out the scoring for Eastern Illinois when he scored on a 10-yard run, making the lead 49-39.
Senior linebacker Alexander DiSanzo recovered the onsides kick and the Tigers ran out the clock.
The Tigers finished the game with 587 yards of total offense, including 472 rushing yards. Victor added 80 yards on 11 carries and scored one touchdown.
In the final game of his career, Garoppolo completed 38 of 50 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Erik Lora caught 18 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker Telvion Clark led the Tiger defense with 15 tackles while Monte Gaddis had 14 tackles and a sack.
