Mariota would have been the first QB taken, though.
Too early to tell, Bridgewater is still the front runner, but in recent years there's been QB's that have jumped to the top of draft boards after the combine and senior bowl. Cam Newton and RG3 are good examples. With so man QB's gaining momentum (Carr, Hundley, Metenberger until he got hurt) it's a toss up over who'll be the first one drafted. My money would go on Carr

If someone drafts David Carr's brother in the top-10 picks after he was a 3rd-ish rounder only a couple weeks ago, that person will get fired. Quickly.
Bridgewater has been my #1 all season, I'm just saying that Mariota was a sure-fire top-5/10 pick and that's before his superior athleticism at the QB position elevates him further in the combine.

Remember RG3 was a 5th round prospect for awhile into his heisman season. But yeah I see your point. I just hope he keeps it up, the kid is pretty damn talented.
I'm pretty sure Murray is a 3rd/4th round prospect right now, isn't he? I agree I think he's capable of being much better than his draft slot, I've always liked his game.

I think it depends on how much teams worry about his ACL tear.
I like Murray. I think he is the best NFL QB prospect in the SEC.
More than AJ Mccarron?
I think he has more talent than AJ. I the fact that he is almost exclusively a pocket passer should mean that his stock won't fall much, if at all, because of his ACL injury.

ACLs are not as worrisome for QB's as other positions, and they're not as worrisome in general since the surgery is fairly common now. I think if a team is looking at him in a "developmental backup" role, they won't be scared off. By the time the draft rolls around in April they should have a good idea about his recovery timeline and he could be throwing and practicing by the fall.
He was a solid 3rd rounder before the injury with potential to move into the late 2nd with good workouts, I think he's a late 4th at worst after the injury.

Agreed. It all depends on how his recovery goes. He isn't known for his mobility, so it won't impact him as much as it would a Manziel or Mariota. That being said, teams may back off him some since he won't be able to make a contribution as soon as he would otherwise.
The luxury of taking him in the 3rd/4th round is that his draft slotting eases fan expectations and you don't have to rush him. It's like the opposite of what the Jets have done with their recent rookie QB's

I think ESPN made a pretty good point yesterday on why it was a good idea for Mariota to stay. Not too many QB's succeed after only playing one year as a starter in college, then transitioning to the NFL the year after. Mark Sanchez is prime example number one. Players to through so much development in college, and the more you can get the better. Also, they aren't getting those ridiculous contracts they were receiving pre-lockout, so there's really no reason to rush to the NFL anymore. Andrew Luck waited an extra year and still ended up as the top pick. But players have also fallen off, I'm going to stick with good decision for him.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
Probably, but not for another year or two after this.
Northern Illinois is still doing fine, even though their coach left last year right before the Orange Bowl. In about three years though, they'll resume irrelevance again.
