I specifically remember this argument because it was in chat with @ntellier85 where you said it. We repeatedly asked for what conference was better then laughed our balls off when you said the Big 12.
top to bottom it probably is. Oklahoma, Ok St, Texas, TCU, Baylor, Kan St, WV, Tex Tech, Iowa St are all solid programs. 9/10 > 7/14?
So which is it: did you never say the SEC wasn't the best or did you say the Big 12 was better? Get your sh*t straight, son.
Historically, would the ACC even be in the top 3 conferences?
In football? No way. SEC, Pac-10, Big 10, Big 12 all historically better as a football conference. I mean that's my thinking off the top of my head. Just looked up # of National Championships by conference (I know that's just one measure), as they are constructed today, and it's the same:
1/Big 10 2/SEC 3/Big 12 4/Pac-10 5/ACC
Interestingly, if you use this measure, speaking historically, Maryland is as important as FSU.
Out of curiosity, using this metric what's the most important program ever?

wait, what? FSU has 3 legitimate, Maryland hasn't really won any.
Do you think they'd stop doing it if someone significant got hurt before a big game? I would, but I don't care about any other tradition other than running through the T. And I'm sure you don't care about that either, so to me, the hill seems like lunacy.

I can't imagine them ever stopping it. but I guess if Tajh Boyd were to injure himself running down the hill there would be an outcry for it.

Wrong and wrong. FSU really only has claim to '93 and '99. Maryland has claim to '51 and '53. That's 2 and 2. Though '51's is a little convoluted, I'll grant you.
So who has the worst or weirdest traditions in all of college football? The Texas A&M 12th man dance is so incredibly awkward. Never seen anyone make it look good. And the Pig Suey thing Arkansas does is super bad too. Who else?

Didn't they still wear leather head gear back then?

actually FSU has claimed 7 according to that list. I looked at and figured they deserved 3 of those, Maryland had an undefeated season then lost the bowl game.

What list? This is still wrong.
Edit: Actually, nevermind, I'm not doing this. I know what I know and it comes from multiple reference materials.

the link that Dave posted. FSU has 7, Maryland 2. some of them can be disputed of course.

Yes. It's part of the HISTORICAL that I referenced in an offhand post to respond to Zapp's question which asked about HISTORICAL. That would include the past.
Edit: Oops, I promised Dave I'd start including his little winky guys.

That link says FSU only claims two. Look at "National championship claims by school." This is even the exaggerated list in which Alabama claims 15. Here is the link again:

I don't understand what you guys are arguing. it says 7 on the list. I didn't make the list.
