He must think now the best days at Boise St. are over, and Washington is a program on the rise currently. They aren't on the level of Oregon/Stanford right now, but are (sadly to say) the third best team in the Pac 12 North and flirt with the Top 25 with frequency now.
Chris Petersen is expected to be named Washington head coach.
So yeah, Boise St is kind of screwed now, right?
why has he turned down all of these jobs over the years and then takes that job?
I still maintain that he realized his potential at Boise St has kind of topped out. bacon would know more about it, but Washington seems to have more money, a better location, a better conference and better facilities. It may have also been a factor of the right job opening up at the right time. Many coaches seems to be regional, so he may have wanted something in the Pacific Northwest. Lastly, they may have also just dumped a truck of money outside his door.
Washington has the potential to be a very good program. I would argue that historically they are the 2nd or third most important team in the conference. Obviously things have changed with Oregon bursting on to the national stage and appearing to be a continuous national powerhouse.
I think maybe the one difference between many of the jobs Peterson was offered and the Washington job is the patience and freedom to establish his type of team. Had he gone to one of the bigger schools he would be expected to be recruiting 5 star players and competing for conference titles almost immediately. At Washington he has at least 4-5 years to get things rolling as long as they are over .500 most years and they will be okay with him recruiting his type of players.
Bowling Green put a whippin' on Northern Illinois.
No BCS Busters in the last year of the BCS.
Probably needed that anyway. NIU would have been demolished in a BCS game again, and the slot can be used for Oregon - so Oregon St. can get better odds of making the Who-The-F*ck-Cares Bowl

Almost guarantees Clemson to the Orange Bowl, thus Duke in the Chik-Fil-a Bowl. And that makes me happy.
If magic strikes tonight and you guys read about someone burning down the city of Charlotte, it'll be this guy. About to hit the road. SHOCK THE WORLD!
I think we decided in chat last night that, aside from jay, we're all cheering for all underdogs today just to cause chaos with the BCS.
This is absolutely what I'm doing. So is there even a remote chance that if Mizzu wins and either of the States lose that they jump into the Championship?

Auburn is 3, Bama is 4 and Missouri is 5. If one of the States lost and Missouri won, I would say there would be a pretty good chance that Missouri would jump Bama for the 2 spot just because they would be the conference champ and beat a team that Bama recently lost to.

I don't see Missouri jumping Bama. should they? definitely. would it actually happen? doubtful.

I think it would happen. There's only a .0111 difference between the two of them right now. It'd be different if there was a larger gap between them like the .0799 gap between Missouri and Ok St.

I know it's gonna be a tough game, but up until watching them pick the game on Gameday today, every "expert" I saw talk the game picked Mizzou to win, so I don't buy Mizzou's "we don't get any respect" mantra. Gus will have the kids ready to play, he's done it all season long.

I think the polls would vote Bama ahead of them.
I am not saying it's not possible that it would happen, but I think it's very probable. Of course, it would depend on how Missouri looks in the victory. Winning by 1 on a last second FG while allowing 400 yards rushing is one thing. A 2 TD victory where they keep Auburn's run game under some kind of control is another.

Did you see Malzahn got the big extension? I figure you would be okay with that.

Yup. I've got no issue with it. And we'll be an even better team next season.

Oh yeah, Antonio "Tiny" Richardson officially declared for the draft yesterday. I was holding out some hope of him not doing so because his season wasn't as good as it could have been which was probably just a silly, desperate hope. This means Tennessee will start an entirely different offensive line next season. That's not that bad, right?

I love that the internet is ready to pounce on this poor guy. Just let the guy enjoy his money.
And that is a d*ck move. I hope Josey is alright. At least Malzahn showed something by taking a knee rather than letting Mason run again to set the single game rushing record for Auburn.
I agree with Dave here though. That play was unnecessary and completely ridiculous. That is not Auburn football. I hope Gus rips him a new one about that.
