Sproles to the Eagles seems like a great fit to me and giving only a 5th round pick seems like a bargain.
It's a bargain, but the last thing that team needs is more offense. They'll have no problem beating up on the weak teams in the NFC east, but they didn't have a problem with that last year either.
Doesn't Mccoy do everything Sproles does and more?
I guess the return game, I think Sproles could have a bigger impact for a different team.
With all the plays the Iggles run, he could have an impact coming in for McCoy against a tired defense. I thought Bryce Brown was doing well in that role. Anyhow, they didn't have to sacrifice much for him.

Sproles is quite similar to McCoy, but I think that is half of the allure. Team's had a lot of success against the Eagles playing Man/press Cover 1. With McCoy and Sproles both in the game, teams will not be able to do this, since LBs will be at a significant disadvantage covering either RB.
Kelly loves creating mismatches and frequently moves versatile players like Jackson into the backfield and/or slot (Sproles can do both well). The offensive scheme is centered around getting players in space, and getting LBs on speedy threats. Sproles will be able to SPELL McCoy without the gameplan changing much; but more importantly it will add another dimension to the offense when he is on the field at the same time with McCoy.
Also, Kelly loves the screen game. The Eagles now have 5 solid options(Jackson,Maclin,Cooper, McCoy, and Sproles). The deal was essentially Sopoaga and a 6th rounder for Sproles, which I would take all day. I'm a little concerned about Sproles' down trending production, but I think he still provides play making ability at a relatively cheap cost
1. Sproles isn't comparable to McCoy. Sproles would never be able to have a 365-touch season like LeSean did last year. (Edit: no way Sproles can run between the tackles like LeSean can). And LeSean is a top 5 RB in the game no questions asked. Sproles just got traded for a 5th round pick. So yeah.
2. Maclin is garbage.
3. Sproles actually cost a 5th round pick plus his $3.5 million salary this year. Not like it's a bad deal, but it's not "cheap".
Having said all that, game planning for McCoy, Sproles, and DeSean for 2 games will probably give Tom Coughlin a headache.
Strange that the Panthers have not scheduled a visit yet with Hakeem Nicks. Their new GM is from the Giants' front office and I believe was around when Nicks was drafted.

Saying Sproles is similar to McCoy in no way insinuates that he is as talented a player. Sproles is a GREAT receiving RB (PFF graded him out #1), and the birds will use his agility to create mismatches, just like they do with McCoy. McCoy's touches should not dip all that much this year, and I'm well aware Sproles could not be a primary back, and will not run between the tackles very often (he's old as fuck, and hits should be limited).
This just isn't true. Maclin is not a great player, but he is a solid contributor and far from garbage. (~30th in Rec yards and 30th in Receptions in 2012)

The Eagles traded the Patriots 5th round pick, which they acquired after trading Sopoaga and a 6th. Sop and a 6th for Sproles is a pretty good deal. 3.5M for a team that manages their cap like the Eagles is nothing.

Anytime Shady is off the field it hurts the team. Sproles will be Chips wildcard man. I picture him returning kicks to save Jackson's gas for the downs. Hes going to be in and out of the slot, and looking at a split back package with him and McCoy is scary. The deal is on the cheap side and i'd give it an A move by the Birds. Bryce Brown is a decent 3rd down back. Could be headed back to 3 headed monster territory.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

The two RB's with the most receptions in the entire NFL since 2011? McCoy and Sproles.
Look, people will hate, but Sproles for a 5th is masterful. Chip Kelly is fully fucking boned thinking about the shit he can do with Sproles and McCoy on the field together. Philly's concerns are the defense and if Foles is the real deal. Their backfield is ridiculous. The Jets might sign MJD and I'd trade Ivory/MJD/who-the-fuck-ever for them in a heartbeat.
Iggles made a good trade, they traded a pick that wasn't even theirs for the best safety valve in the league.

I dunno. Jason Campbell? Shaun Hill? Does it matter?
But what's going to happen is Vick will realize there aren't any starting jobs, sign with the Jets and I get 5 months of WHO WILL START!?!?!? articles that push me to murder Manish Mehta.
Although it's only been one year, I just wasn't really impressed with him last year. Of the few games I actually caught last year, I think two of them were his awesome comebacks. But he still strikes me as someone who can't actually throw that well ...
The Jets D is so good that if they can score 24 points they should win most games. I know it will never happen bc Geno was an early round pick but I'd just sign Vick and let him start. It's not a long term solution but I don't think Geno is either. And at least with Vick the Jets are likely IMO to make the playoffs.
Vick might not be so great, but I think he can generate 24 points with Decker, Kerley, WR, Ivory, solid o-line

While I appreciate your "caught some games" analysis, I'll make it easy for you. Geno was good in the beginning of the year and the end of the year, with a horrible slump in the middle. That horrible slump coincided with Rex getting concerned with turnovers and going ultra-conservative. Double-TE, 2009 shit. Once they opened it back up and basically told Geno to take sacks/throw it away rather than force it...what happened? Geno had the 2nd highest QB rating in December, in the entire league. Was he doing things completely different than he was previously? Not really. He just stopped forcing balls and his confidence grew. That's the offense Rex wants (balanced attack, not pass-first) and Geno proved he can play in it.
The Jets haven't had a franchise QB in two decades, and that one wasn't even drafted by the team. They are going to find one come hell or high water, and they think Geno might be that guy, so they're starting him.
Vick isn't worth the headache, and at this point I doubt he'd hold up for a full year anyway.
I agree Vick probably won't last a full season. And who knows with Geno. A lot of franchise QBs were underwhelming their first year (from Eli to Peyton) albeit with some flashes. But Geno just didn't pass the eye test for me. Not like I'm claiming to be some sort of expert in football or anything but that was just my impression.
My thinking is moreso along the lines of: if both Geno and Vick are healthy in the playoffs, who would give them a better shot at the Super Bowl?
I'd say the Jets are a legitimate wildcard contender. Last year showed that their defense rebounded well after losing Revis - and they will only continue to improve (losing Cromartie isn't that big a deal considering he wasn't actually good last year). As long as they can continue to hold opponents to 20 or less they will be in most games.
And that's exactly why I think Vick is a viable option to start. Once you're a playoff caliber team you gotta think Super Bowl or bust. If the Jets didn't really have a shot at the playoffs I'd say go with Geno and see what he can do/let him develop.

The team that signs Vick and he becomes the starter is the team that misses the playoffs. He wouldn't be a bad option off the bench in case of injury but if he's your best option, your team is going in the wrong direction. The big problem with Vick going to a team where the QB's compete for the starting job is that Vick will probably win. He needs to go to a team where he's #2 regardless of what he does preseason. Most teams have a QB in place where the starter's known before preseason, he needs to join one of those teams and be used only in the case of an injury.
If the Jets sign him it'll be a disaster. I say let Geno air it out for the season without distractions like a Vick would be.
It's a good deal since it's real cheap, but the man is 34 so the Ravens better draft a receiver in the first round considering there aren't any first round caliber centers available.

Smith is the perfect piece to go with Torrey Smith, a healthy Dennis Pitta, and Marlon Brown. He doesn't have to be Mr. Everything like he did in Carolina. They may still go for Ebron in the first round. Need to get some O-Line help and tighten up the secondary, maybe.
