This is what I'm talking about. I wasn't "very excited" that the Jets drafted him, I thought it was a good value pick since he was seen as the best QB in the draft and they didn't use either 1st round selection on him.
Watkins would be an ideal fit for the team, I wouldn't be against that at all. Right now the Jets are picking 13th.
I know Rex has been watching him a lot, since his son is at Clemson. I'd hate to have to pull for the Jets though, if they draft him.
He'd love playing for Rex, and they would throw him a crap load of passes, so I don't think he would share your dismay if the Jets drafted him.

he may go higher than that. we'll see.
A lot will depend on pre-draft workouts, but I think the 10-15 range is where he'll end up. I'm sure some team will seriously considering taking him in the top 7-8, but that's a reach, imo.
I saw some donkey who had Anthony Barr going 2nd, so the mock-draft season of blowing up prospects well beyond their worth has officially begun! That same draft had Johnny Football going 3rd, btw.

the guy I listen to every day on the radio is a self professed draft guru (he claims to be better than any of the ESPN guys and as far as I can tell he's right most of the time) has Barr going really high. Sammy is going to blow them away with his speed and ability to catch the ball. his weakness is he can be slowed down by physical, press coverage. FSU and SC are the only teams we have played that were even brave enough to try it, but it worked for them.

Barr is good, don't get me wrong, but he's not better than Clowney. If some team does go ahead and pick Barr over Clowney, they will regret it.
That's my reason for Watkins not being a top-10 WR, btw. NFL DB's will bump and shove him off routes and that takes time to adjust to.

the thing that may hold Clowney back is his laziness. he takes plays off. he took most of this year off. but his sheer physical talent is still going to have him in the top 3 picks.
At this point, its obvious to me that the Giants are going to ride it out with Eli next year since he's owed $20 million anyway. They will almost certainly be taking an O-lineman in the first round, or at least a LB (since we only have two (2!) on the payroll for next year - one being a special teamer).
Flanz, which QBs do you think are worth picking by the Jets in the first round despite already having Geno on the roster?
Teddy B. And we're done. I've been debating lately about this, and it comes down to what they do with Rex. If they keep Rex, it's an indication that they think they're close to being a good team, but the QB spot is holding them back (which is my belief). If they keep him, you get a guy to manage the game, not put the entire thing on their back.
I think Carr is a project (like Geno) and while he may have a better starting point, he's still going to give you the same sh*t you're dealing with now. Hundley looks solid, but the real guy I want is David Fales. Perfect game-manager type of QB that's accurate and intelligent to go with Rex's defense.
If one of Mettenberger/McCarron falls into the 3rd, grab them.
I think the team will continue to ride with Geno, but I hope they sign a veteran QB and have Veteran QB, Geno, Simms, Rookie QB heading into training camp. I'd feel much better about the QB spot if that's the depth chart instead of Geno - Sanchez - Simms.

See, there's a very distinct difference between "being double/triple teamed" and "taking most of the season off."
I know your bias will never allow such an admission, but teams spent entire offseasons trying to figure out ways to keep him from ruining their offenses. It won't scare NFL teams away that those coaches succeeded.

it's not true though. he wasn't double and triple teamed that much, because teams didn't need to. he wasn't playing hard and it was obvious to everyone.

I heard Clayton on the radio this morning and he sounded pretty adamant about the Jets moving on from Ryan. I was kind of surprised by how confident he was considering Rex has done a pretty nice job with the personnel that's there.
My brother (Jets fan) is high on Carr, Fales, and Mettenberger. I still think Aaron Murray is going to be an absolute steal late in the draft for somebody. It kinda pisses me off that having Ryan Nassib on the roster will likely preclude the Giants from taking Murray. Its almost irrelevant that he has a knee injury, since he's a pure pocket passer.
Edit: wow, it takes Mettenberger forever to throw the ball.

See, I've never seen anyone cite a stat about this, only that he doesn't get doubled. Every time I watched him (and he was the only player I bothered watching during his games), he was doubled. At least he was doubled with a chip block before a guy either continued to double or leaked out for a pass. The reason they were 11th in defense wasn't because the team is completely flush with top-round NFL talent, it's because teams would rather take their chances playing 9 on 10 elsewhere with 2 guys on Clowney than 10 on 10 and leaving some yokel on an island with Clowney.
Put him on St. Louis' DL with Quinn, Long and the rest? Holy sh*t is that going to be frightening.

It's ESPN, that's the narrative they've held since Idzik was hired, they can't go backing off of it now. The reality of it is that Woody really likes Rex, but it's up to Idzik. I think Idzik tested Ryan a few times this year and he passed, but Idzik might not think Rex is going to be the guy to take this team where it needs to go. It'll be interesting, but I agree with you, given the roster he has (offensively), winning 6+ games is pretty good.

You think St. Louis takes him? They've got the defensive line more or less set. They've got other, more pressing needs.
Fisher rode a beastly DL and Steve McNair to a Super Bowl, if Teddy is off the board I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Clowney. In that 3-4 hybrid they run having Quinn, Long and Clowney on 3rd downs would be the worst thing ever for a QB.

The Rams taking Clowney would be similar to the Giants strategy from drafts a few years back where they would take who they considered the best player available regardless of what position they needed to upgrade at. They brought havoc with the depth on that D line. It still wouldn't surprise me if the Rams trade for more picks. They could use another WR but I don't see one worthy of that high of a pick. They could land someone like Watkins a few picks later.
He looked good enough to beat your boys, so shaddup.
The biggest issue on offense for the Jets is Geno's inexperience (which will only get better with experience, obvs) and offensive playmakers. Watkins helps resolve one of those. I'd be perfectly accepting of that pick, but I still hope Evans from A&M is available so the Jets can take him instead. Better prospect, imo.
Good game, Carolina. That one was a real heart-breaker, but I'm sure it was just as awesome for all of y'all to experience the win. There is still one week left for the division. If you handle your business, you get the division. Good luck in the playoffs.
