If you have an hour to kill and have a hankering for cheesy writing on top of mediocre acting on top of insanely expensive production + a little martial arts and a concubine orgy for the sake of boobies, watch the first episode!

"WHO THE FUCK HAS THE GODDAMN GALL TO CALL THIS HOUSE ON A TUESDAY NIGHT?!?! I WAIT ALL WEEK FOR THE FUCKING EQUALIER AND THEy HAVE TO FUCKIN....... hellloooo Oh, Gene. How are you, Gene? Right-o Gene, that'd be great. Cheerio... FUCKING HALF WIT!!!!"
Well, I didn't hate it. It's entertaining enough. The Canadians provide the laughs. You might enjoy it too if you're into Kevin Smith's dialogue and Troma USA Up All Night style B-movies.
After the Bama-OSU game gets out of hand tonight I'll be watching this documentary about Fela Kuti from Alex Gibney on Netflix Instant that just started streaming.
Watched this last night. Definitely the worst movie I watched all year.
I feel like the only people who are saying this movie is the best of the year are the same people who look at those basic abstract art pieces and can have an hour long discussion about the "meaning" of it.
I'm a Willis Earl Beal fan, so I enjoyed it. There isn't much of a storyline, but it's shot beautifully and it's neat to get a look at parts of Memphis that aren't typically showcased. It's streaming on Netflix.
New to Netflix Instant and next up for me is a doc I added to my queue in September based on this review...
On Friday I saw "This Ain't No Mouse Music." It's a music documentary and may not be out in general release yet, but watch for it.
It's the story of Chris Strachwitz and a label he created (Arhoolie Records) 50 plus years ago. The only unifying theme of the hundreds of albums he's put out is that it's music he likes ("mouse music" is whatever he doesn't like). There's blues (e.g. Lightnin' Hopkins), zydeco (e.g. Clifton Chenier), tejano (Flaco Jimenez), and a bunch of other stuff. If you're interested, you can check out the trailer here.
There are some legends featured from my home state like Lightnin' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb, and Flaco Jiminez that I have high admiration for.
