Not a big Radiohead fan and I've tried to like them for years. Wasn't too thrilled with their performance either so they definitely didn't win any points with me. I was happy for all the RH fans out there though. As far as band suggestions on Friday night, I'm going to stick with Ponzo and say "anything good" as well as something high energy. It's Friday quacking night for quacks sake!! Let's get this party goin!!!
Jess, I'll give you KoL. That was like 4 dudes pissing in 80,000 peoples' ears at once. However, if you didn't think Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), No Cars Go, Bodysnatchers, or Paranoid Android were rockin', you don't know what the quack rock is.
You're going to be begging for an "Indie" Friday headliner when it's announced Lady Gaga has the spot next year.
Let's not forget the mind melting, life changing rendition of "Wake Up". That one song permanently changed our live performance grading scale. We sat in the RV Sunday night performing our standard Bonnaroo recap, and could not come up with an "Arcade Fire Moment" for Bonnaroo 2012. (Not to judge 12 to harshly, it's just that AF set the bar THAT high.)
Apr 16 Black Angels
Apr 26 Alejandro Escovedo
June 13-16 Bonnaroo
Oct 5 Nine Inch Nails
0ct 11 Pearl Jam
Oct 12 Pearl Jam
Oct 16 Robert Randolph
Feb 1 The Hold Steady
Feb 8 The Black Angels
March 16 Arcade Fire
April 29 Arcade Fire
I took some time off from perusing the boards and found this thread a couple of days ago. I read it until page 9. I wish I could insert a post on page 1 that says "Stop now! Go baaaaacccckkkkk!!". Oh well, we've got a lot of time to kill until next June.
Hahaha nooooooo I totally disagree. I think we should get as many people to read this as possible. Instead of sending new users a welcome letter we should just force them to read the entirety of this thread. That way they'll see what they're in for and run for the hills. I'm just glad I didn't find this thread on pages 1-5, I would've been far too tempted to join the fray. As it happened I just killed over an hour at work reading this and thoroughly enjoyed (almost) all of it. One of my coworkers now thinks I am insane because I was giggling like a little girl behind my desk and didn't/couldn't tell him why. For the record, I hope the 'jam' and 'indie' genre/scene arguments keep going infinitely, it's just too darn funny to see people get their panties in a bunch over all this.
Great stuff all around, folks!
Just think, this thread almost got killed before I saw that awesome hockey fight video. What a shame that would have been.
I hadn't checked Inforoo in about a month (part of a foolish attempt to return to normal life post-roo) before finding this absolute gem of a thread. In all seriousness- thanks for an extremely entertaining hour. When I saw the OP I knew I was in for a wild ride but that was even better than I expected.
It's like, if I hand you a sandwich and am all "hey man, have a bit of this delicious ham sandwich," and then you take a bite and hand it back and are all "I'm disappointed, I was hoping for a turkey sandwich," you'd be insane
How are the Pixies Indie but Radiohead is not, I am honestly confused here. Though I am pretty certain when I picked up Doolittle in 1990 nobody had ever used the name indie to refer to a genre of music.
"indie" is a vague term. I would describe Pixies, Radiohead, or Bjork as college radio. But that is what many people now refer to as "indie". I could see Arcade Fire in the same category as well. but not KOL.
I would also like to see a Sleater-Kinney reunion added to the all indie stage!
