Nothing like a sport played on ice to take our minds off of the foot of snow we're about to get.
makes perfect sense when you don't think about it.
We don't know what ice is in FL, unless its in our lemonade.
I've never been able to get in to hockey.
In this video you get a few big reasons hockey is awesome:
That first guy is Alexander Ovechkin, he's one of the best players in hockey and that's him using his own person as a heat-seeking missile trying to kill Drew Doughty. Doughtry is an elite player as well, so you have two top guys in the league crashing into the boards with the same force as a small car crash, and the guy who takes the majority of the hit is up before you stop staring at the rippling waves of glass going up the ice.
Other reasons: incredible skill, fighting, self-policing (you don't have players diving, faking, cheap-shotting, etc. - and if those things happen you know that sooner or later that person is going to get punched in the face....hard), the fact that a player in the NBA or NFL will sit out a game with a mild injury while hockey players take pucks to the face and come back into the game (I'm serious, I've seen this happen multiple times the past two seasons, it's unsettling and admirable all at once). The Rangers' gameplan is to block shots. That means guys dive in front of pucks flying at anywhere from 75-100 mph and just eat it with their chests, arms, legs...whatever. A guy took a Zdeno Chara shot off the shin the other day and didn't leave the ice for 5 minutes (reference: Chara is a 6'9" person before getting on skates who has the hardest shot in the history of the sport, clocked at over 120 mph on some occasions; average ice time for a shift is 30-60 seconds depending on situation, position, etc.)
You southern folks don't understand the sport you're ignoring, that's what me thinks.
