This is where Kev brought it up earlier, so I will bring it back up again. Bonnaroo just posted on the facebook about taking us to Mardi Gras next week. The 12th may have just became a little more likely as the line-up date.
Ohio, check the Jim James tour dates thread. Popsicle Sarah and others went to a secret show in Nashville last night that might give an idea of what the tour will be like.
Idk what to expect cause he hasnt done any shows yet on the tour but itll either be the new album, the new album mixed in with covers, or the new album, covers and mmj songs. Either way its gonna be a great show
I am eager to go for sure.....I'm wondering if he will be putting out a new album soon---he seems to be hinting at that. Regardless, I can't wait.
2. They purposely book jambands as Sun headliners to space out the exit of patrons. This on a Sun night would be a HUGE drawl and would defeat the purpose all together.
EDIT: 7,000!!1
I don't understand this at all, help me understand your logic. Are you suggesting that as a business that revolves around music the promoters intentionally book a band on Sunday that people won't like so they'll leave early and spend less money? If you have some inside source that told you this is what AC actually does then they desperately need some new thought leadership shaking up their business. I can hear the conversation in my head now.
Intern: We can get Kanye West Sunday night but that's the only day of the festival he's available.
AC Exec: That's not gonna work, we need to book a band that nobody likes so that people leave early.
Intern: But it's only 500k more and we do an average of 250k an hour in ancillary sales, we'll end up making more money and having a better festival.
AC Exec: Absolutely not, we must book WSP so people will leave. It's our moral obligation to make sure people can get back to work by Monday without feeling like they missed something good.
I'm just not buying it. I'm not saying they don't intentionally book "jam" style headliners on Sunday but I don't think it's for the purpose of getting people to leave.
I agree they don't try to get people to leave on Sunday, but they want their big, featured headliner to be on Friday or Saturday night when the fest is at peak attendance.
5/11/13: Sweetlife Festival
5/16/13: The Flaming Lips
5/20/13: Fitz and the Tantrums
6/7-6/9: Governors Ball
6/13-6/16: Bonnaroo
6/21-23: Firefly (???)
7/11-13 Camp Bisco
8/31-9/1: Made In America
9/27-29 Tomorrowworld (???)
Having the jam headliner on sunday caters to a certain crowd. So yes it is a form of crowd/traffic control for exitng the festival. Same reason camps grounds open on wed so that they can do crowd/traffic control for those coming in.

You also have to remember that the Pre-HL and Which stage closers on Sunday are generally particularly strong. They certainly want people at the fest all day Sunday. The Jam closer is probably a combination of tradition and administrative convenience.

You don't book a band like Phish to get people to leave, you stop playing shows on all the other stages to do that. Even still, people who have little interest in bands like WSP and Phish will stick around because its the only thing going on (I know I did). My point is, people are gonna leave Sunday if they have to, and while SCP is a big draw (and don't get me wrong I don't think they're MORE likely than a WSP or Phil Lesh, I just don't think they're a total longshot) they don't have a name recognition like the Foo Fighters do to the mainstream public (I.e. the people who come to Bonnaroo for the Pretty Lights and Bassnectars of the world), and would thus draw about an equivalent size crowd of a Phish show, but that's just my opinion.
I bought my Jim James ticket yesterday for his show in Nashville in May. I'm pretty excited, but I am unsure what to expect. Thoughts?
I think I'm going to be there, if Mike got me a ticket. Here is Sarah's take on last nights secret show at the Basement.
For those of you going to see Jim James... if you get anything close to what we did tonight, you are in for the best show of your life. An hour of Carl solo, over an hour of Jim solo, and 45 minutes of My Morning Jacket. Holy shiz! That was... amazing
I have faith in the Petty/WuTang rumor, I think it's gonna be Macca/Petty/Bjork/Mumford ... Wu-Tang
I can't see Wu-Tang being a headliner, at all. Top 10, yes.
edit/ I read your post again and I can now see we agree. I like your top 4 better but I can't see them giving Petty Sunday.
I agree wu-tang wont be a headliner, i wouldnt be surprised to see them just out of the top 10. Im hopin the Petty rumor is true. Macca - Petty - Mumford - Bjork - Jam latenight(phil and friends) - edm stage latenight(deadmau5?)

That's great to hear. So excited that I got my ticket. Gonna have to dload the new album for sure.
How about Macca, The Cure, Bjork, Furthur, Wu-tang? too much top?
I don't think it's to much top but I really hope that The Cure aren't our 2. I saw them on Palladia the other day and they looked rough. The sound was OK but reminded me of why I listened to them as a kid and I don't want to spend Saturday night of Roo during a no other option HL set listening to them. I could see them in the Skrillybear spot and be cool with stopping by and listening to a few songs.
why does everyone seem to be set with sunday being wsp or dmb? i feel like i missed something. wouldn't the fact that furthur signed on to that new bottle rock festival make them more likely? that and the fact that wsp and dmb suck?

I've already seen the Cure a couple times and found them to still be great live. That being said, the last time I saw them was maybe 04/05 as part of the Curiosa festival. They would still be considered a huge get for Roo though
