Jesus. It's still just kind of sinking in that I bought two tickets to Weekend One of Coachella 2013 and reserved myself a sweet as f*ck campervan. I'm locked in, this is sick. I'm already pricing flights - seeing fares as low as $485, plus I can probably just book it using miles. So incredibly stoked.
I know. My buddy and I kept texting each other last night saying things like "wow. It's starting to sink in!" Gonna be a great weekend! Happy for all of us.

Are there really rumors already? Yikes.
I'd be okay with a headliner I didn't care about - they have other acts going on at the same time, right? I know that A$AP Rocky was playing at the same time as Radiohead this year.
Hey now! I must point out that the headliners at Coach are not unopposed. You better still be coming!
I jest, I jest.
A) I have no problems even when I don't like a headliner. A lot of people like No Doubt and I could see why anyone would book them. Just not my cup of tea.
B) I'll be there. I'm actually not worried at all about it. I'll be there week one.
Haha they get downright mean over there at times. I mostly just lurk because virtually any post from anyone elicits cries of that person being a quacking moron. At least they have way less passive aggressive "positive" people over there though.

Nah I was joking. Just trying to make you guys feel bad for a minute. The Coach boards are better in a way (more in depth music discussion), but they are also downright hateful about other fests. They are not immune to their fair share of idiots either.

Yeah they're downright hateful towards any fest that isn't Coach. They especially have a strong loathing for Roo which usually comes across as jealousy rather than complete hate.

It will basically be 2010 all over again...
Phoenix, The xx, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Edward Sharpe, Grizzly Bear, Hot Chip, Passion Pit, Avett Brothers, La Roux, The Cribs (didn't play but were billed), Yeasayer, Beach House, Temper Trap, Ra Ra Riot, Camera Obscura all have albums due.

NIN won't be there. If Trent Reznor does play, it will be with How To Destroy Angels.
I'm thinking Green Day. The third of their forthcoming trilogy of albums comes out right around Coachella, and supposedly they were asked to play in 2009. I'm not too keen on the idea, but I could see it happening.

The possibility of that makes me happy headliners don't play unopposed.

11 months away and you think you have it nailed..
Also, the board (except for a few) doesn't really hate on other fests, they're just picky. The only true hate I have seen is for Bonnaroo. I don't think they're jealous outside of the beer, late night / longer sets and less conflicts. I love Bonnaroo but they need to step it up a little. There's a reason why 2 weeks of Coachella sold out a year early when Bonnaroo is still trying to get rid of tickets just weeks away. Not hating by any means. I rather have it less crowded myself so in a way, Bonnaroo wins that even though it felt more crowded last year than any fest I have ever attended.
The fest argument is stale. Attend them all if ya can. Good people, music, vibes, and art shouldn't ever be the source of an argument.

it's because coachella is a scene. not that i wouldn't go or anything, but people just want to be at coachella regardless of who's playing because it's the thing to do.

It's an established festival that gives a great experience every year, lots of people love the lineups, it's very close to a huge metropolis. It's easy to cast it off the way you did, but you know it's more complex than that.

Nailed? Nope. But I'd say there's a REALLY good chance that at least half of those bands will be billed. It's really common sense ya know? Whose touring? Whose available? Who has a new show/music? Oh, and buzz bands who weren't booked the previous year (like Alabama Shakes, Dry the River, and Graffit6 who I expect in 2013). It's a year long riddle and since I'm a high school English teacher I really don't have anything else to do with my time. I pass out busy work and think about festivals. That pretty much sums up my day.
I could see something like Passion Pit>Vampire Weekend>Phoenix on the main stage one night.
Even with another hit album, I don't know if Phoenix headlines. Now, if that read Pasion Pit > Vampire Weekend > Phoenix > Blur, I think you'd be on to something.
If Blur manages to hold it together (which is dubious, given Albarn being a giant d*ckhole), and release new material, I have to think Coachella books them. If that happens, I really think they headline Friday night (Underworld mainstage right after them plz), with Pearl Jam Saturday, and then either a classic rock act (Neil Young & Crazy Horse?) or hip-hop (ummm...OutKast? Watch the Throne? Who knows.) on Sunday.
The fact that this is like a year away is criminal.
