Not the hugest fan of the first season. It looks incredible but the dialogue was pretty poorly written and the acting was pretty meh, in my opinion. It has a lot of potential with this season having all new writers though, so I'll definitely be giving this season a chance.
We'll see how season 2 stands up to season 1 without Frank Darabont. But I am excited fer it!
Frank Darabont got shown the door after this season was finished. It does have an all-new staff of writers though. Like Joaquin, the show has a ton of potential but felt pretty flat after the first two episodes of season one. It's still good but it could be great.
Definitely agree with the pretty good but not great sentiments.
The racist character from season 1 (Mertle? Merle? Earl?) was the corniest quacking character on TV. Dude's facing an apocalyptic situation and he can't put his bigotry behind him? That's pretty realistic.
Mediocre writing/acting or not, it's still pretty entertaining. Even if it doesn't improve from the first season I'm sure I'll still end up watching.

It kind of sucks that it took 3 and a half hours for this season to really do anything. I'm so sick of watching people walk around the woods and complain. Unfortunately, this season is not looking much better in my eyes. I did love the Breaking Bad nod in episode 2 though.
I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I really don't think the first three are any sort of improvement over the first season. It's still good enough to watch, but kind of frustrating that it wastes all this potential. The twist at the end of ep 3 was pretty cool, but pretty predictable too.
Mostly though, I just wanted to say I think I'm going to start hugging people the way Rick does. Do people actually grab the back of the head of the people they hug? He does it every single time.
I thought the zombie in the well thing was pretty neat. I have definitely been enjoying this season, but maybe not as much as the first. Pretty excited to see where everything is headed.
To be honest I thought the zombie in the well thing was pointless. The guy said there are five wells, and even if they get the zombie out without shooting it/it ripping in half, I doubt people would drink from that one when there are four others to choose from. Plus, would anyone actually be dumb enough to attempt to "lure" it up? Just seemed like a way to kill five minutes of time. There seem to be a lot of those types of scenes.
