Could you buy a $100 window A/C for the time being?
i probably could but i'll probably be getting a new one installed next weekend hopefully. and honestly by the afternoon yesterday i was getting used to sitting in 88 degrees lol. as long as the fan is 2 feet from me i'm good
Is the "stinger" concept a thing outside of western New York? (Either pizza or subs with chicken tenders, blue cheese, wing sauce and Philly steak.)
I've never heard of it, but I could definitely get down with the sandwich version (and then immediately nap)!
Advice:
I need a new roommate- and now. If I don't have one by July 1, I'll be doubling my rent and utilities (and I am going to be in Florida 06/20-06/25). I usually find my roommates via Craigslist, so it's a bit of a process. Advertise, bring people over to see the place over a few days period, etc. I definitely started the search a little late because I was so insanely busy at work, but started the search a little over two weeks ago. Thought I had a good one and found out yesterday it's not going to happen.
I put my ad back up last night and have had a few bites, and I feel confident I could get more, but again I am going to be out of state starting Wednesday morning and when I get back I'd only have a few days. I don't feel confident that I'll have solid options before I leave. I do have an option or two that I met last week that probably could work out, but I am not super interested in them (both don't seem to have many friends, and I am worried they'll either always be home and/or relying on me for their social life).
It seems like these are my options:
1. Ask one of the people I didn't really like, and be stuck with them for at least a year
2. Continue to advertise and see who else appears, and risk not having a roommate for July 1.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Can you afford at least 1 month of the entirety on your own? If so, wait. If not, I'd probably err on the safe side.

I mean... yes and no. I could definitely pay for the month alone, but that's an extra 750+ bucks. That would be to the detriment of my sleep (I am currently looking to buy a new mattress) or giving up a vacation this fall. Is POSSIBLY finding a roommate that I really like worth giving up a new mattress or a vacation? I refuse to break into savings for this. The two other guys are nice and have good jobs. It's not like they would be horrible. Just not ideal.

(thanks for offering your opinion!)
Well, if you've found someone so easily already, I think the risk is low. That being said, you probably wouldn't even need the full month, right? Just like a week or two weeks on your own?
I say wing it and see if you can find the ideal person.

Finding a good roommate is priceless if you ask me. Having a turd in your house for a full year is way worse than losing some vacation money. If you don't get someone in by July 1 you can change your listing to "Move in ASAP" and prorate the rent for July.
I'm in a really good ATL housing Facebook group. It's moderated to keep bots and scammers out and it gives you a bit more info about who you are chatting with. Maybe there's something similar in your area? Could help you find a winner a bit quicker.

aww, 88 ain't so bad. we generally keep our AC set at 86 during the day and 88 at night.

That's insane. Why bother to have AC at all?
And, yes, I agree that bonzai should wait for the right fit.

i guess it's a little diff in phoenix but the humidity was like 90% and it was shitty. current temp outside is 70 lol

The PHX and suburaban cities experienced a huge boom in population growth pre 2008, and home builders threw up really cheap stucco on wood frame houses to keep up with demand out in desert areas/former ranch areas (ie: no mature shade trees or plants). Pair that with Phoenicians generally being transplants from other areas of the country that don't really want to adapt to smarter desert style dwellings, and many houses were designed with 14' vaulted ceilings and no real intent on sustainable, cooling efficiency. Even keeping the AC at 86, that is still about 25-30 degrees cooler than the outside temperature for most of the summer. 86 feels great when it's 115 outside. quick and cheap for a long time was the MO over sustainability here in the least sustainable city in the country.
I mean, look at it people. Brambleberries (or cherries) swirled together with a crisp struesel (made with brown sugar, butter, and oats) layered in vanilla bean ice cream.

I used to think it was weird that people went to coffee shops to work but since I started this new job it's the only place I can get any writing done. In the office there's always a million other things to do and my house has my bed in it so that's a no-go. Here everybody ignores me and there's delicious pastries. It's perfect.

Do they have ice cream?
No but no joke there's A Jeni's in this building. Good motivation to get this script done so I can move on to more important things.
