hell yeah, let's move to canada! I am very sick of it.
it's part of the reason I love bonnaroo so much - everyone in the crowd wants to and enjoys talking to you in the crowd. it's like a whole different world!
and Boner, I really do think it's a northern thing - it's all from the influence of the norwegian ancestry. just keeping to yourself and keeping your emotions kind of veiled.
I meant northern thing as in we're nicer and open. I dunno.
ahh, I was thinking northern US. not canada. which is a dumb thing to think when you're talking to a person from canada. haha and currently minnesota is attempting to make itself labeled as "THE NORTH!" (true story)

I've heard that people in Quebec can be rather pretentious. Any truth to that?
for the most part. But if we're just talking about crowd culture at shows and stuff, Montreal is still on par with everywhere else I've been in Canada.
I've been to Montreal before and never had any issues with the locals. Then again, Montreal is a unique case. You see elements of both European and American culture. Plus, all the Montreal natives seem to be bilingual.
Half-assed high fives are the worst, and I'm holding back from a rant here.
Half-assed handshakes, too. Eesh.
I bought my car from a different salesperson at the same dealership because of a handshake. I don't care if I am a girl. Don't give me some limp, wet, half-assed handshake.

Fair warning to everyone I haven't met: I will judge the fuck out of you if you have a shitty handshake. Male. Female. It matters not.

I've been complimented several times at interviews on my handshake - usually by dudes. I'm proud.
booooo. my absolutely favorite mexican restaurant was raided today for being part of the drug cartel. meth and heroine and cocaine and no more beans and cheese for me.
Living in the Northeast (specifically, New York) your entire life makes people from any other part of the country seem friendly. We are without a doubt the most rude, selfish, unfriendly, and impatient region of the U.S.
New Yorkers are friendly. As long as you don't ask stupid questions and waste our time.

I found an AMAZINGLY cool apartment for me and CPK. We're going to look at it tomorrow. Please keep your fingers crossed for us, the rental market has been SOOOOOO competitive during our search.

Haha. I will say that the level of friendliness varies depending on which part of the state you're in. For the most part, upstate is much more friendly than downstate (excluding Syracuse and Albany). I'm originally from Long Island, which is arguably the worst of the worst (along with Staten Island). After living upstate for the last 8+ years, there's no way I could move back to Long Island. I feel so out of place every time I return.

Albany is full of stupid college kids that ruin everything good and holier than thou politicians with their little posses. I live 15 minutes away and avoid going there at all costs.

I went to U-Albany for grad school (they have a great atmospheric science program). Other than the moronic undergrads and corrupt politicians, one of Albany's distinguishing features is how unfriendly and unwelcoming it is. I think the juxtaposition of people originally from downstate and people originally from upstate creates a lot of tension, and no one seems to be especially happy living there. Plus the drivers absolutely suck. They blatantly run red lights (as in crossing the intersection two seconds after the light turns red) on a regular basis. Other than the people, it's not a terrible place to live, but my friend from grad school and I often refer to Albany as the most incredibly mediocre/average city in the U.S.

I like most NYers I've met from upstate... but the politics of upstate NY is also treacherous and nasty. But thank the lord you don't live in Long Island anymore

It's those damn French Canadians! Their culture is oozing through the border like maple syrup.
