"We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other. Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why Limp Bizkit is back."

I have to come up with a cover of a bubblegum pop track for tomorrow; I know it's good to step outside your comfort zone and all, but this song is just flat-out bad. I've had to listen to the original so many times already, I think I'll be completely batty by the time I'm done. SOMEBODY HELP!
On the plus side, the bar for this was set lower than a limbo contest, so I shouldn't have to wear out those turd-polishing gloves too much.

In 3 weeks I'm driving to Louisville, KY to see them, KoRn, and Stone Temple Pilots (w/ Chester). Haters Gonna Hate. #ShakeItOffShakeItOff

...also, because our bank accounts are getting low.
sang_xcx does make a good suggestion for starters. Is there a particular reason/band that has sparked your interest because it would be easier to throw some bands your way if people had a baseline for you.
It's something I've been thinking of for a while now, it just seems like such an arbitrary gap in the type of music I listen to. But it's come up lately because of some of the albums posted in AOTM and now playing threads that I've check out that just weren't clicking, but I'm guessing it's because there probably not the right starting points for this genre. And since theres no festival in the near future that I'm researching acts on this seems like a good time to fix this.
Follow Dave's suggestion and visit the metal thread. However, that is largely for people already into metal and ends up with a lot of the Pitchfork-approved-one-metal-album-is-beloved-per-year album. To truly start in metal, you should go back to the beginning with, say, Led Zeppelin and then run through glam (Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt), get to death and black, look to the Scandinavians, then decide if you like the growling vocals, the D&D lyrics, the guitar work, etc. to branch off properly. So if you really want to start at the beginning - go from Black Sabbath to Deep Purple and Dio and Rainbow and Judas Priest and then you'll get to the one metal band that binds them all - Iron Maiden. Listen to the Maiden albums Powerslave and Number of the Beast, tell me what you think and I'll be able to advise you from there.

Any albums in particular you want to suggest?
Also, Go! Pack! Go!
Start with the Maiden albums Powerslave and Number of the Beast.

Whoooaaaa. I have hit the "Recently Updated Threads" like 3 times. And 5 of them were last updated in 2011. I feel like Whoreshack is running the forum right now. Excessive bumping of old threads Sunday.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Just made the 2011 inforoo archive section. Bumped a few select threads that were moved into that section

Well, I guess if anyone was going to burst my otherworldly bubble, I'd prefer it be you.

September and October are hard months when your baseball team sucks and you hate football.
Another football hater!! Let's be friends. There are so few of us in the world!
I have to go to work soon and listen to everyone talk about the weekends games and their stupid, stupid, STUPID fantasy teams. I wish I could wear headphones. :-(

I can't stand football anymore either. So, count me in the "hate on football" posse. I still love the sport itself. I hate football culture with all of its bullshit, overpaid Neanderthals, and glitz and glam. Just too much goes on within the entire sport, starting even in high school, that I don't agree with.
Heh, you can almost get lynched in Pittsburgh for even talking like that. Who cares that our quarterback could be a rapist! He wins Superbowls! I wasn't allowed to say one negative thing about the Steelers, and I was a fan since childhood. Literally, friends and family decided to not talk to me because I was very outspoken about my feelings of wrongdoing going on in the league. Jesus. I can't overlook things that seriously bother me just so I keep on enjoying a sport.

THANK YOU! I have nothing against the sport itself, but I have a lot of feelings about the way our culture idolizes the players and how much they get paid.

A woman I work with has said, in many more words, that Derek Jeter is a horrible person because he pays for the cab rides/orders a car service and gives the ladies he takes home a gift basket. Yet, Rapistburger & Dogfighter Guy are just great guys she'd like to have a beer and party with.
