I haven't been able to process anything from the past two days. Combined 13 hours of overnight driving, two days with zero sleep, waiting in line 11 hours. Just insane. I don't have the capacity to even go into detail right now. I need to shower and sleep.
Bun - so glad you were able to see this. What an amazing night. The best thing for me is that it was a real celebration of the DC music scene fromy younger days.
The first set was a Bad Brains set with Dr. Know and Daryl Jennifer joined by Pete Stahl from Scream and Dave Grohl on drums. Dr. Know is still an incredible punk guitarist and the crowd was really into the set.
Second set was local go-go funk band, Trouble Funk, led by the birthday boy, Big Tony. They had 15 members on stage and really brought the funk. They even got the owner of 9:30 Club to play drums with them on Play That Funky Music White Boy.
Then came the Foo Fighters. I don't know what I expected - maybe a couple members and 4 or 5 songs. But no, it was the whole band and they ripped through a 17-song set of hits and they were on fire. Dave talked a lot about the club and the city and stories that were very familiar to some of mine. They played until about 1:15 in the morning and Dave was amped up the entire time - to include running through the crowd and jumping up on the long bar for a five minute solo.
My ears are literally still ringing.
In case your wife didn't relay the message, I hate you.

I showered. Where to start?
2am Monday morning, Cinco de Mayo. I picked up my friends Chelsea, Remington, and John in my old beat up camry and drove overnight in one shift. About six and half hours later we arrived around 8:30 am. Set up our chairs and got settled in line. Around 10:30am we spotted a black SUV turn the corner of the 9:30 club being driven by none other than Dave. Chelsea and I made our way around back and caught him as he was entering the venue. This was the moment I had waited almost 15 years for so luckily I wasn't really freaking out. It was very easy to stay calm. At this point I knew what I wanted to say to him, the scenario has been in my head for years haha. We talked for about 5 minutes, got a couple pictures, and he went inside. I thought that this was going to be the highlight of my day...
*Fastforward waiting in line all day*
We made our way inside the venue, up against the rail (as I have been for every Foo show) and waited. The first group was a DC super group assembled just for the show. Half Bad Brains and half Scream. Being a drummer and huge fan of Dave, obviously, it was an amazing experience to watch him play so close. He is just a power house. I didn't want to take my eyes off of him, I just wanted to study and admire. As Tom said, the crowd loved it!
Trouble Funk kicked ass! They brought the funk and had me dancing and grooving through their entire set. It was very impressive. They just kept going song after song, constantly including the crowd. A powerful brass section, dead on percussionists, and Big Tony leading the whole show. They killed it and I loved every funky second of it.
I had been speculating for a month and we finally pieced it all together while we were in line. Foo Fighters were headlining. The semi with ALL of their gear? The cameras, the equipment, everything. It had become obvious.
So... I've seen this band many times but I've never had the chance to see them in such an intimate setting. Dave was in top form! There is no other way to put it. The whole band killed it, really, but at this point I expect nothing less. We interacted with Dave and Taylor during the show about my friends Birds of Satan (Taylor's recent side project) tshirt she was wearing and Dave acknowledge and agreed when I called Taylor the "greatest drummer in the fucking world" as he was trying to introduce him. Just fun stuff, I've had interactions before but it's always fun. For the most part the setlist was average for a Foo Fighters show. 19 songs is a little under their usual, but they played a few 'deep' cuts. Specifically one song I have never had the chance to see live before. One I've waited a long time for and never actually thought I'd hear. A personal favorites and what I consider to be one of the best songs they have ever written, Aurora. *Meeting Dave was great, a dream come true. A musician I admire, the frontman and master mind of my favorite band. I've always told myself it's the music first and I proved that to myself last night.* They came out for their encore and Dave simply stated "we haven't played this one in a long time." Aurora brought me to tears. It's a very special song for me and Chelsea. A conversation with Dave, a handshake, a photo. Those meant almost nothing as they played on and we stood there and sang along.
I don't really know what else to say. I still haven't slept yet, so I'm running on fumes as it is. I had the time of my life with some of my best friends. To sum it up, it was perfect.

If anyone gives me ANY kind of guff at Roo I'm gonna scream "I AM A US CITIZEN STANDING ON AMERICAN GROUND! THIS IS BEYOND! THIS IS BEYOND!" Mark my words, folks
Earlier today I looked out the window and there were two cardinals going at it in a bush. Then I noticed two squirrels humping up in a tree across the yard.

Now that I've recovered with 12 hours of sleep... Thanks for being glad for me because this was the most important day of my life. It means a ton. I'm only in my mid-twenties but I know a lot about and have read (BOOKS! not just internet!) much of Dave's upbringing and the scene that surrounded the DC area. So I want to say I'm glad you were able to see it, because it obviously meant a lot to you too.
ps - My ears were ringing until I went to bed last night

@eviltim102 I actually got goosebumps when I saw the picture you posted. I felt a little weird feeling so happy for you, but I did. Then I saw the CoS article about FF "surprise" show and thought about the day you posted the flyer and picked up on the FF logo thing down in a corner and said you knew it would happen.... Anyways, I'm glad you had a fantastic time!
I just cannot get into Lykke Li. I want to like her. But all I hear is blah blah blah. Am I listening wrong?
the only song i've heard by her i really loved, it was called "until i bleed," and i'm not sure if it was even her or if she was featured on someone elses record....
actually, she was featured. it's kleerup ft. lykke li.
edit: my point here is that i haven't actually listened to her own stuff, but the only thing i've heard with her on it i liked.

I liked Until We Bleed and I liked her track Possibility on the Twilight soundtrack. There is another I like called Unrequited maybe...anyway yes I have listened to her older stuff and like I said, I want to like it but those three songs are it for me.
Wasn't trying to be negative biotch I just wish they were all that good.
