I cannot do this anymore. He is going to fall behind. I'm a failure at homeschooling. I must look into public and private schools in the area. Oh god, I can't afford that or subject him to that school. I HAVE to do this. Today was a good day. I can do this. Bad day. I cannot do this anymore. He is going...

Abra, from what I've seen of your kiddos and the stories you tell about them, they both seem like extremely bright and curious (and hilarious) little fellows. I'm sure you're doing an amazing job teaching them.
It must feel like an enormous responsibility. Do they have any support systems for homeschool parents near you?
They have co-ops that are in Knoxville which is about a 30 minute drive but being down to one car right now rules that out. I am looking at art lessons and swimming for the upcoming months as we should have our car back soon.

Abra - I think it says a lot about you as a mom that you're even having this dialog and struggling with it. I don't know you or your kids, but just to care so much and be able to discuss limitations says a lot. I have struggled with this very issue and I KNOW I would not be good at homeschooling as much as I would have liked to. I wish I had some amazing words of wisdom for you, but I don't. Other than I think kids turn out so much better not so much on how or where they're schooled but whether or not their parents care. You clearly do. I truly wish you the best of luck on the conclusion of this inner dialog.

I just have to say that I am amazed at this one group of friends that I have - we are on a message board - we all had kids in April, 2005 - so they are all 7 years old now. But these people have these kids lives so scheduled it is unreal. Every single one of these kids not only is in school but is in at least 2 different sports and music or dance or gymnastics or swimming - they are busy every single night of the week. When do the kids get to be kids and just ride their bikes and catch lightning bugs and stuff...

There's a librarian at my school that has the loudest "inside voice" I've ever heard. At what point did she decide that being a librarian was the profession for her? Also, how did that slip under the radar in the employment process; isn't being quiet like a top 3 desirable quality for all librarians?
^ The librarian at my university is as loud visibly as she is audibly: she's inked & pierced from head to toe. I've only dealt with her in a professional capacity, but next Friday night I'll see her at a faculty party (yay for tons of duty-free booze supplied by colleagues who traveled overseas all summer!), so it'll be interesting to see if she's an equally loud drunk...

Playing It Still Moves in the store the for the third consecutive day. Every time I play it in here, everybody that wanders in eventually asks me what's playing. It's just like that Beta Band scene from High Fidelity:
JUST LIKE IT. People are ALWAYS surprised when I tell them it's MMJ, too. I think certain people have only listened to Jacket's later stuff and just associate them with some of their frattier fans.
