It's a worthy skill to learn. I started with a few core recipes that I was able to master and expanded from there. Once you learn the basics it's really quite easy, and you get to impress people with your culinary prowess.
The problem is I'm also a terribly picky eater with a lot of dumb food issues. So I don't even know if what I'm making is actually good since I don't like so many things.
I guess I could get really good at different kinds of spaghetti and pasta though. Yea.....that's the ticket.
I need a cooking class. After I get my life together, though.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

uh oh. it had all been going so well......
You were bound to find out sooner or later. Once the cheeto's ran out, anyway.
looks like dave's ok cupid/verizon wireless/grindr/tinder/scruff/match/christian mingle/eharmoney experience has been better than all of ours.
I miss curtis...
I got hit on during jury duty today. At least I think that's what was happening. Apparently wearing plaid, a leather jacket, leather boots and unknowingly singing along to your music out loud screams, "COME MAKE AWKWARD SMALL TALK WITH ME EVEN THOUGH I OBVIOUSLY DONT WANT TO TALK TO ANYONE!!" I say these things because it is what he commented on. He complimented my outfit and asked what I was singing. He was really awkward and I was relieved when my name was called for trial.

I'm sure you could cook just about anything you order out at restaurants if you put the time in. Once you start expanding, it's pretty easy to identify what's "good" and what isn't. I hate macaroni/potato salad, but I've learned how to make good ones. Cooking for friends usually helps you get an idea for what you're good at and what you aren't.
Honestly, a cooking class is completely unnecessary in this day and age unless you're trying to cook something pretty advanced. Between cookbooks, The Food Network, and the internet, the information is already out there. It just comes down to practice. If I had to suggest something to get you started, it would be to not order out for an entire week. Anything you crave, prepare yourself. Italian dishes usually make for wonderful, simple dishes. They also get you pretty familiar with the spice rack, which is a biggie.
Edit: Which reminds me, whoever called out my Ducasse Method for steaks, where you at bro?

Also, whats 'scruff'?
get it, gurl.
scruff is like grindr, but for bears. or those who like bears. if you need further reference:
I couple days ago I was making eggs. The first one made it into the pan nicely. The second one was dropped on the counter and cracked a bit but was salvageable. Number three was fine. The fourth one was dropped squarely on the floor (I didn't eat that one). It was not my most impressive moment.

Gotcha. I know what a bear is, just never heard of scruff. Is there a scruff for straight girls looking for straight bear type men? I love tall, strong, bearded men. I can do without the "lots" of body hair though, or at least to an extent. Men with nice beards tend to be hairy. You gotta take the good with the bad.

I think my problem is I feel I'd be better with a hands-on approach. Like to ask things along the way. I always second guess things when I cook based on a youtube or online recipe. Thinking "I am not sure this is what I was supposed to do for that" or "Why isn't mine like that one? Did I fuck up?".
Practice is the key, for sure. I am just imagining so many meals that go to waste until I get it right haha. I've been meaning to really learn more about cooking but I need to make time for it.

When I have no idea what I'm doing, I call my dad. You can usually also google whatever problem it is your having because most people have already made the same mistake thousands of times.
You'll make some mistakes, but sometimes they work out in your favor. As long as you can eat whatever you've prepared in the beginning, you're doing alright. Most of the meals that I make take 20-30 minutes, but my diet is basically meat and seasonings, so...
Cooking = physics just like baking = chemistry. Once you know the basic laws of how things work you can do just about anything with a good degree of success.

Yea, I'm sure I can figure it out. I think I just need to grab a cookbook and start doing it. I'll be terrible for a while but eventually I'll be able to eat stuff haha.

The more you practice and know what different seasonings taste like and your own preferences the easier it gets.
I was making chicken this weekend for someone with many allergies. I just kept asking about different seasonings until I got to a combo that would work together and not cause an issue. Just takes time.
I like to look up 5 recipes or so for something I've never cooked before. Then I settle on what seems like the most appropriate or best recipe or most standard if I have no idea how the crazy thing is made.

America's Test Kitchen. Their show focuses on pretty standard fare with an eye towards ease of cooking / baking / grilling, etc. Also, they explain why things work and why they don't.
Fantastic cook books as well fir the hands on part.
