For central Florida people, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are playing a free show at UF this Friday. The Knocks are opening, and will also be playing a free DJ set at an after party later that night. In other free news, Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be playing a free show at Bo Diddley Plaza in Gainesville on February 28.
dr. dog is playing 2 shows here next week. on the same night, at the same venue. one at 7, one at 10. this venue has an alottment of free tickets during lunch on tuesdays you can get if you order something off the menu (which is a great deal. saw moon taxi, temples, and jungle all for the cost of a burrito last year). figured i'd go today, get a free ticket for the early show and buy one for the later show, but I got there late and missed out (though I did get some free Lotus tickets for the next day). I don't want to buy two tickets, so Im trying to decide on the early or late show. the old person in me wants to go to the earlier, all ages show. but i think the later, 21+ will probably be a little rowdier and doesn't have a set end time.
Both obviously. If I can do it with a 2 hour drive after
early show sold out before I could get a ticket. gonna try to get one from one of the dudes on the street. have a ticket for the late show though. if you wanna say hey, look for the guy wearing the Vols hat and handing out MMMF handbills between shows.

Just got my AC/DC tickets for the girl and I. Can't believe I'm seeing Rush, The Who, and AC/DC in the same year. Due to the high expense of this, the only festival I can afford to go to besides Bonnaroo and Boston Calling is Osheaga. Totally worth it though.

I also have two Forecastle passes, but I'm trying to dump those - can't afford to go.

Newport Folk Festival is on my agenda next year. Can't wait and see what all the excitement on here is! Seems like a great festival

I'm only posting this because the post FJM wrote with it is hilarious. and so you NYCers can go.
"For those of you relegated to seeing me play inside an Urban Outfitters due to the New York shows selling out, I'll be coming back August 5th to play the Central Park Summer Stage thing, contributing to the park's long, rich musical history - Simon and Garfunkel's reunion, Bono's bicycle accident, etc."
They are playing the Civic in NOLA on June 8 for $18. That is the cheapest show I have ever heard of at the Civic. I saw the announcement first thing this morning and my first thought was to buy tickets. Then I noticed the date. This is the second band that has announced a show the week of Bonnaroo that I want to see and can't justify going to see because of Bonnaroo. Kinda depressing.

maybe buy a ticket and then sell it when the schedule comes out if the conflicts aren't bad!
I often try to see as many roo acts beforehand to cut down on conflicts.

We are doing that as well. I have tickets to several shows already that are playing roo also. The bf is saying we are going btw since tickets are only $18. I have gone to shows the week that I am leaving for festivals before, but find it kinda stressful since you have so much other shit going on. I FINALLY get my bonus this week, so we will see what is left afterwards and if tickets are in our future I guess.

totally! I'm going to purity ring the night before I leave for roo. meaning I'm going to try and pack beforehand, get distracted and say "nah I'll do it after" then get home from the show really late, think to myself how I need to be up super early and say "fuck it I'll pack before I leave" and then almost miss my flight due to oversleeping and still needing to pack. ....... not that I'm speaking from experience or anything........
actually, I'm almost certain I pulled an all-nighter before I left for roo in '13 or '14. now I'm trying to remember why...

Change missing flight with needing to drive and arrive before some god-awful time, and Bonnaroo with ACL, sounds like my 2013 ACL trip. I literally had a show-a-night, for three nights in a row before leaving and all three were playing ACL. I got packed and left on time, but that was when shit was really bad with my ex, and I had planned a girls trip, only to have him go as well. Not only was packing a bitch, but the shows were miserable and he blames the breakup on that trip. We went separately since I had planned ACL with girlfriends and he kept saying I was blowing him off at the festival. Once again, planned for MONTHS in advance before he decided to go with his bestie. I think that is when I decided no shows the week of festivals. Maybe that was a rash decision, looking back on the situation.

Totally almost pulled an all-nighter before 'Roo last year. I had my travel companions come spend the night at my house, just to make it easier, then they both passed out on my bed as we were chatting and I couldn't be fucking bothered trying to wake the dead, so I grabbed my sleeping bag and slept on the floor in the basement from 5-8am. I would've slept in my roommate's bed (since she wasn't there), but her best friend/my future roommate (who I had sex with about ten days prior) was asleep in her bed.
ANYWAY.
I just bought my ticket to see Houndmouth at the Turf Club this Saturday night! It's been along time since I've gone to a show alone. I'm kinda looking forward to it. I went to their show at the Entry a year and a half ago and goddamn it was a great time. Never been to the Turf Club, tho, so I'm additionally excited.

this is your first time at the turf since they remodeled it, isn't it? it's awesome! and it's super easy to sneak your way around to the front without much effort. and go back to the bar. and back to the front. and so on. be sure to check out the downstairs bar for quick drinks! wish I wasn't working so I could join in on the fun.

it's probably pre-festival-concert-PTSD. I'm sure you'll be fine now!
I can hardly believe I've come to this point with my musical tastes where this is even remotely a question...Should I go see Moon Duo or Sergio & Benoit?

Moon Duo
Moon Duo rules. Hard. Fucking love them. But, for some reason, Sergio & Benoit is calling my name for some sexy dancing.

I would go see Benoit & Sergio. I hear their shows are pretty wicked dance parties.
Also, I don't know why everyone is mirroring your reversal, but, it's totally Benoit & Sergio.

Thanks for all the info! And it's actually my first time going to the Turf Club, ever, hence all of my excitement. I'll definitely head downstairs too. And yeah dude, we gotta get together for another show sometime.
