Pops Julianna Barwick is playing a show at a new venue that I have been meaning to check out. Seem to remember you saying good things about her didn't she open for Sigur Ros or something.

Go!! I saw her a few weeks ago and was blown away by her voice. It's even more beautiful in person.

And yes, she did open for Sigur Ros recently
Thanks, haven't really listened to her and suggestions on what to start with. I always try to make my first vist to a new venue something new.

CKS's got me covered here. I wasn't able to go to that show and was pretty bummed about it. But she's hitting here in February again and for like $10, it's definitely worth checking out.
Edit - also, listen to Nepenthe. It looks like she plays almost exclusively from her latest.

Just purchased my ticket to Charlotte... will be my second time seeing them, first time would have been in 2010. I know not too many of you have really looked into these guys, but their albums just keep getting better and better and they put on a spectacular musical performance in concert. Some gorgeous indie-folkish chamber pop (I guess is what I'd call it), these guys and gals are classically trained and well studied in film score composition, lending to sharp, very visual shifts in passage in much of their work... really coming off as an often dark form of early Disney orchestral scores with modern modern indie folk narrative and conventional sounds to keep it somewhat grounded.

One of my favorite venues in Philly, The Blockley, is closing at the end of the year. They're having a couple of farewell shows that look really good. Hip hop night with Schoolly D and Reef the Lost Cauze on Thursday, and a jam night Sunday.
