There has been alot of argument over whether either of these two could headline Bonnaroo. There's alot of love for both these guys on the board, alot of people want to see both of them. Ok now imagine there's 2 higher tier headliner, Phish and Radiohead, Stones and REM, whatever whatever. Now 2 of the next names on the lineup are Arcade fire and My Morning Jacket. Who headlines? Who would be billed higher? Remember, this is not who you would want to see more, but who is bigger, who deserves the higher billing, and who would be most fit to have a headlining slot at bonnaroo. Just curious what you guys would think
This is pretty rough, but I do think Arcade Fire would be billed higher than MMJ, right now. Arcade Fire just has too much mainstream appeal right now to ignore. I know there was a wide idea that MMJ could headline, but if both are on the bill, I just can't see MMJ being booked over Arcade Fire. This is one occasion where I think chart placement and popular relevance will be the deciding factor.
Arcade Fire definitely has more draw, when they're picking headliners they aren't necessarily trying to sell tickets to the people that are going to go every year anyways. If it were so, MMJ > Arcade Fire. But since it's a business, Arcade Fire would be the more highly publicized act.
This is of course better for anyone who wants an MMJ late night again.
Arcade Fire for sure. My Morning Jacket is famous enough that they've been portrayed in American Dad, but Arcade Fire is famous enough that they had their biggest hit playing every commercial break last Superbowl. That's huge.
I saw My Morning Jacket play for maybe 2,000 people out in central Mass this summer, and I had absolutely no trouble getting a ticket. I could never imagine that happening with Arcade Fire at this point in their career.
Even though they would both be small headliners, I would be all for having a scaled back Roo with Arcade Fire on Friday and My Morning Jacket on Sunday, if it meant Roo could focus its budget on a legendary Saturday night headliner - someone like McCartney, the Stones, Clapton, Bowie, Waters, Prince, etc.

My Morning Jacket. Both have Grammy nominations, the Super Bowl goes in AF's favor. Guitar Hero 5 in MMJ's. MMJ has more collaboration history, a few more years in the game. But Arcade Fire seemed to be on EVERYONE'S top albums of this year. Toss up.
So my litmus test in deciding who was truly the more all around popular/well known/"bigger" band to the masses (not just in-the-know music lovers), I just polled the 5 teenagers in my house and the 7 that they are playing X-Box live with. Only my son had heard of Arcade Fire (originally from my Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack, now from The Suburbs), however 50% had heard of MMJ.
