The ticket sales argument isn't really relevant regarding booking Kanye. Ticket sales for Bonnaroo are never/rarely dependent on one artist. Ticket sales this year would be the same regardless if Kanye is a headliner or not.
I don't know that that's accurate. I think big name headliners drive press coverage/buzz and that translates to more tix. Headliners aren't everything but they can help cultivate word of mouth and free advertising.
Of course, there's no way to "win" this argument since it's all just opinion but that's my take on it.
Who is gonna be the late night tent electronic acts? Deadmau5 and Bassnectar were present last year.. who is stepping into those slots?
My guess is one or two jamtronica acts (Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, STS9) and at the very least RJD2, and at the most a Fatboy Slim, Paul Van Dyk, Kaskade, DJ Shadow (will be in Europe but has a weird break during bonnaroo), Tiesto (will be in the States and loves festivals, or David Guetta. If I *had* to put money on it, Pretty Lights, STS9 (Murph's good recovery pending), and RJD2. All along with Massive Attack of course.

Coachella sold out in 6 days this year and KOL had nothing to do with it.
Boy, you guys are much farther off this year on your guesses than usual. First of all jakicker is right that even now, we are still waiting for 100% confirm on one of the headliners. Also, this girl you guys have been about - she knows nothing.
So before I start my annual tease, please look up my past years posts before anyone questions my credibility.
Now - where do we start.......
OK, how about with the one that everyone seems to assume - let's start by checking off Arcade Fire - you can consider them a confirm for Friday night......
After that, I'm sorry to say that most of the speculation on here is way off.....
Start thinking less about big name headliners...........
i just want to go on record as saying that was pretty cool to be name dropped in the first message of insider's 2011 information extravaganza (aka saving inforoo from destroying itself once again)
also, its refreshing to check inforoo at work on my lunch break earlier and have over 30 new pages to read, which i will have to wait to do til tomorrow since my favorite local band (good enough for good times) is playing tonight. all and all, it seems like roo is going out of its way to try and please everyone this year, even if we didnt get radiohead or daft punk like we wanted, by giving us mmj, arcade fire, some jammy love with wsp, a secret top hip hop group, hopefully a large secret (probably rolling stones) saturday headliner, and what is shaping up to be a group of stellar mid-tier acts. see yall there
I'm not going to lie...i'm really disappointed in the lineup leaks from Insider. For the 10th anniversary, I really expected more. A lot more. Hopefully Saturday night makes up for the other headliners...Sat night was by far the best last year.

She did mention there was a serious effort for Prince, Radiohead, lil wayne, and furthur, and none of them panned out. They were shooting big, but you can't force a band to play a festival. They did the best they can under the circumstances. They picked 2 lower level headliners for Fri, thats not too shabby. And we still don't know the sat headliner yet. I don't even particularly like this line-up but if the sat isn't totally weak I think it's solid

Yes, I'm a bit underwhelmed so far as well, though ecstatic about Arcade Fire.
You guys didn't lower your expectations the first, oh, eight hundred times you were told to do so by people supposedly in the know? It's gonna be all about the undercard this year.
My headliner expectations have been lowered for at least a couple weeks, so I'm just happy that we grabbed Arcade Fire and MMJ for a late night. If the hip-hop What LN is Kanye West, and the Saturday headliner is R.E.M. or Neil Young, I will be ecstatic.
^The problem has a lot to do with the fact that all of these big names every one are searching for, do as they please and perform when they want. No festival is big enough to book whoever, whenever they want. It all comes down to touring schedules, release dates, they can only book working artists. But from what I've heard confirmed so far, we are very spoiled as music fans to want more because friday night alone is worth admission for me.

I don't really sweat the line up much. Of course I want all my favorites to play but at the end of the day the worst day at Bonnaroo is probably better than 99% of the other days.

I absolutely agree with you. AF and MMJ in the same night will be fantastic. Closing with WSP seems like a good ending for it's tenth anniversary (although I'm not a huge fan). I've seen it mentioned here before, but you really can't force a band to play a festival. Gotta play the cards your dealt and barring something stupid (BEP for Saturday) I think roo has taken care of us.

I'm still holding out hope that we've been duped into believing the headliners are going to be underwhelming. Insider never explicitly denied Daft Punk or even a Phish, and it's not completely outrageous to think that Superfly has released this rumor to build an ecstatic response when it all works out to be a great headliner. Honestly, I'm going to be pretty damn surprised if the lineup including the Saturday night show for Bonnaroo X is just more of what we've seen for Friday or Sunday. I live for the undercard, but everyone always wants to have that one band that everyone is stoked to see. And why not on Bonnaroo X? Just surprising that this would be the year we'd all be saying "Ok so the headliners aren't great...but..."
I love this festival and will have a blast, so I'll end the night on that note

This, in a way, is kind of what I was hoping for. Barring radiohead or daft punk there were no headliner possibilities I was really excited to see. I'd much rather they save the money and have an amazing undercard. if #7-10 are some awesome mid tier acts and they book some epic latenights, and some really cool lower level acts, I'll be sold.
why are people acting dissappointed with what we know so far.. i think they did go big.. Arcade Fire is one of the biggest bands in the world right now.. The Suburbs is up for Album of The Year.. MMJ is great late night act.. On sunday you have Robert Plant and The Band of Joy.. Plant was in Led Zeppelin for god's sake.. WSP is great to close the 10th aniversary because they basically helped build Bonnaroo's reputation especially in the early years and they are taking a break after the summer and no one know when they will tour again.. As of right now.. what more could you ask for on a festival bill.. Just be Happy

And, ok, I understand the arguments of no BIG headliners, but I'm really surprised by any negativity of this line-up on here. All year I've been listening to everyone BEG for MMJ and AF. Now we get them and people are still complaining. Jesus you spoiled brats

Why? Because its fucking widespread panic AGAIN.
What more could you ask for? Daft punk or radiohead or mccartney or whaters or one big amazing unifying act.

She said they tried for Radiohead AND Prince and it looked good, but it didn't pan out. Daft Punk ISNT touring. They dont have a live setup developed yet. I'm sure they went for macca, stones, etc also but things dont always work out. You can't force bands to play festivals. You have to work with what you have. We still don't know sat headliner either.
