Im not blown away bc I really thought we'd get Neil. But there's more acts im interested in than Coachella's. I'm interested in over 40 acts on Roos vs. 33 at Coachella. Not that I can even see that may full sets. Which, to me, makes Roo worth it. Im still pretty stoked even without Neil.

I don't see them releasing anymore headliners..... The way I see it, if they were to wait to release a second round of headliners through 2nd tier acts, they would stand a greater chance of losing a ton of ticket sales --- Reason being, most people who are strapped for cash this year, (AKA: all of us,) may just see this initial crap lineup and decide to spend their hard earned money on other festivals (ie: Wakarusa, Summer Camp, Coachella) based on the line-ups.... IF they wait to release more headliners, tons of us will have already allocated our money to other festivals.
Bottom line - we're screwed, and I'll see you all at Wakarusa.
Perhaps the promoters dont think the lineup is crap, and they know that a lot of people wait to buy tickets because sellouts are unlikely. Also, is there anyone playing Wakarusa that isnt playing or hasnt already played Roo? There will be additions.
My goodness. Instead of being reasonable - everyone is freaking out about the lineup. No one made you follow it all day. No one made you believe rumors and guesses and then get let down. Because, until 8PM CST, unless it was confirmed by Bonnaroo - it was only a rumor.
No one got your hopes up but you. No one made you buy early bird tickets before a lineup came out. It's not your "favorite bands" festival. It's a choice and you all have to make it. Go or don't, but it's not Bonnaroo, Superfly, or AC Entertainments fault if you don't like it.
I personally am indifferent on KOL and Stevie. I've seen DMB before. But when I go through the lineup... I personally can come up with about 15 bands or so that I want to see. That breaks down to $16 bucks a band or so - therefore, it's worth it to me. Find your own rationale, but whining on a message board won't do a damn thing.
I enjoyed today - even if some of the rumors weren't true.
Disappointing. Some great acts, but overall, the lineup just doesn't hit me. I'm going to need Neil Young, My Morning Jacket, Pavement, Broken Social Scene, Roger Waters/Paul McCartney/A HEADLINER
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
I have loved Bonnaroo. I've been to five. I was so looking forward to this year. I won't be going. This lineup is a bad joke. I am so glad I didn't get my tix early.

Can't wait for the additions! The lineup is sound, and there's tons to see and do on the farm. I just wish they'd have given me the chance to see Sunny Day Real Estate at the greatest venue the world has to offer. Maybe next year!
that was only as a backup because of the Allman Bros cancellation
yeah, that was only due to unique circumstances i think (but that didn't stop Bonnaroo from building it up and making everyone go crazy thinking it was gonna be Led Zeppelin).
remember, these people are concert promoters first, friendly festival hosts second. they are going to do everything they can to sell tickets first and foremost. and the circus they've put us through for the past few weeks and 9 hours today proves that. they knew damn well DMB and KOL at the top of the line up was weak compared to previous years (maybe someone dropped out, who knows) and they needed to disguise it somehow. believe me, unless they haven't finished the contract yet or something, if Neil Young was going to be there, he would have been announced today.
and again, for the record, i am a fan of both DMB and KOL, so i'm not just being a hater. but even i can admit KOL as a headliner isn't worth a 9 hour drive and i'm content to see DMB at a closer venue.
I will say this, with trying to start as small amount of nuts as possible. However Wakarusa for my personal tastes has a better lineup right now than Bonnaroo. As much as I like John Prine, and Tori Amos, and a lot of this undercard, the headliner and big act situation looks grim. Other than Stevie there is not much I care about until you get to Jimmy Cliff. However nobody said they were done yet, but without some pretty impressive additions I amy have to go somewhere else.

^ sorry to be all doom and gloom. those that are saying "if you don't like it, don't go" are correct. i will shut up now until i have something positive or constructive to say. there are a lot of great "pieces" and redeemable qualities to this line up, just not enough that makes me say to myself "i NEED to see that." at least not yet.
anyway, just needed to vent amongst the people that love this festival as much as i do. thanks for putting up with me.
Well I for one am super excited about this lineup. I am also very happy that all of you complainers won't be there. Go somewhere else with your bad vibes, and leave Bonnaroo alone. I will be there for the 6th year in a row and will be bringing a virgin to enjoy the great time to be had. See ya'll there.
The more I think about it, this lineup really isn't bad at all. I think the only thing I'm really hung up on is the ticket price. Just 4 years ago, in '06, I got my tickets for 166.50, and that lineup had Radiohead (arguably the biggest band in the world, esp. at the time), Petty & the Heartbreakers, Phil & Friends, Oysterhead, MMJ, Beck, Umphrey's, etc...
Now I understand inflation makes up some of that difference, but I feel like for the lineup they released, ticket prices should have dropped a bit. Go with a "economic scale-back" approach, keep everyone's expectations more realistic, and hopefully enable more people to attend with more affordable tickets.
Anyway.. head your ass out to Coachella and enjoy the MIDNIGHT curfew.
seriously. and seeing people getting picked out of the crowd for smoking a joint. annd the small ammount of space they give you to camp with..
ohhhh and. that you can't go to and fro from stages/campsite as you please.
I know the in's and out's and larger campsites have already been covered, but I would like to add I have been to Coach the last three years, and every night ended after 12. Prince went to 1:30. And last year, they added a DnB dome that went into the wee hours of the morning.
well.. animal collective played roughly 20 minutes.
which to me, seemed short.
They are also back to back with very short breaks in between so you really have to run to make it to other stages.
Bands at Coachella, outside of maybe 1-2 bottom line acts, get roughly 45-50 minutes, with increasing time as you move further up the lineup. As for back-to-backs, there is usually 20-30 minutes in between sets at a stage. The staggered lineup at Coachella I think is handled better than any other festival. There are not many direct conflicts as other festivals, which allows you to catch at least partial sets from any bands who do conflict.
And Animal Collective were not allotted 20 minutes. Something had to have happened to cause that issue.
I haven't really spent time at a headliner for the last two roos, so it is not a big deal for me. Get out there, get a good spot for someone else while they play! Meet people, play duck duck goose.
i usually get some sleep or find some fun things for the rest of the night during the headliners so i dont really mind too much... & yeah you get to get a good spot for the late nights!
It wouldn't make sense for them to hold back big names, they made an all day event out of revealing the artists and they want you to get pumped and buy your tickets TODAY. Why would they purposely disappoint people today and then wait to redeem themselves?
Relative to other years, this is a weak lineup. I'd still love to go just for the Bonnaroo experience, but you can't deny the weak lineup. You know when you have so many people with various tastes all complaining about the lineup that something is wrong.
As a sliver lining, the less must-see groups there are for me, the more I'm free to just kick back and enjoy Bonnaroo without having to stress about getting in the front row or scheduling conflicts. And there are a lot of groups in the line up I haven't heard of that I could end up really digging between now and June.

The line-up is a bit "smaller" than recent years but I like a LOT of the bands and get the feeling that with a wider number of great mid-level acts maybe the shows won't be as overcrowded as the last couple years. Of course that might mean lots of conflicts but that's okay 'cause I've seen most of these groups (and look forward to seeing most again, if and where possible.)
I like the change and the smaller feel. Kind of reminds me of the early Roos.
I feel like Bonnaroo is supposed to come out with a lineup that makes you say, "Damn, I don't care that I have to spend $500 and drive 30 hours round trip, I'M GOING TO THE FARM."
My reaction to this is, "The economy is fucking horrible right now, it's near impossible to find a job, and you want me to spend $500 and drive 30 hours round trip for this? Why would you do this to me, friend?"

:High Hopes:
Maybe MGMT will come out to play with Kid Cudi on Pursuit of Happiness?? haha doubtful, but would be great!
Either way, I can't believe people are sweating the headliners, they are but one small piece of the puzzle. I mean last year was BRUCE and he was not very good imo. I find that I usually end up finding far better bands than I even knew before roo after I discovered new ones. This year I am going to listen up ahead of time, so I won't be left wishing I had seen more undercards. There is more greatness here than you can imagine, if only you'll go out now and listen to all the artists you're not familiar with.
